Migration Complete

Welcome to the new Forza Inter Forums​

A lot of work went into this over the past few months, and now we're finally migrated over. New server, new OS, new software, etc. Mostly everything migrated over cleanly from vb (users, posts, threads, forums, etc). Here's a highlight of issues, updates and improvements you will notice. This isn't comprehensive but hits most of the highlights.

Thanks​

The Thanks feature is not core vb functionality and does NOT migrate over. xenForo instead has a 'reaction score', where basically you get a point every time someone clicks 'Like' on your post. So essentially the same thing as the Thanks feature, but unfortunately these values cannot be overridden with the legacy 'Thanks' score as any direct modifications I make would be lost every time the cache is rebuilt. There's a few older members that still have some legacy reaction score totals left over from the olden days when vb had a 'reputation' score, but no one has more than 100 so essentially everyone's starting from scratch.

Before migrating, I did grab the top 50 list for Thanks received and given in case people are curious.

Avatars​

Some avatars here and there did not convert well, especially any animated gifs, avatars that needed re-sizing, weird formats, etc. If you notice your avatar looks 'off', you'll probably need to re-upload it.

Notifications​

You will now have the option to get notifications when stuff such as the following occurs

• You get a new PM
• Someone quotes one of your posts
• Someone Likes one of your posts
• Someone mentions you, i.e. @vasilios

You can enable/disable these notifications and a bunch of others in your user settings. You will also have the option of enabling push notifications so that you can get browser push notifications real-time.

Styles​

I created 2 themes which you can select between on the bottom left of the page. 'FIF Dark' is basically a re-creation of the old FIF style and is what you will have selected by default. 'FIF Light' was something I created just to have an alternative for those who prefer a lighter background. These required a lot of customization, so if you see something like white text on white background, or something misaligned, mention it in the Issues/Suggestions thread. There's also a built in mobile interface now, so for those that used tapatalk you can delete that shit now.

Banner​

The banner was something we quickly mocked up and threw together. We reached out to a couple of the graphic design folks on the forum, but they were pretty busy. I'm thinking we may open up a "design contest" thread like we had in the past where people can create mock-ups and maybe we pick one to use. While I realize no one likes the new Inter logo, we're not going to launch the 'new' FIF and immediately be outdated by using an older logo. However we're open to creating an actual FIF logo or using no logo at all depending on the design.

Forum reorganization​

We did some small tweaks of the forum layout. Most notably

• Match Day: This is now for match threads only. Tactics or any other discussions can go in the General Inter Discussion area or wherever most appropriate
• There's now a 'Statistics and Player Ratings' sub-forum for all player ratings and statistics threads
• Non-Inter football discussion forums have been broken down to Club Football, International Football, and World of Football.
  • The first 2 are pretty obvious, the last one is a catch-all for any other football discussion (player discussion, football history, VAR/rules, etc.)
• We also removed some redundant/outdated/inactive sub-forums from view to clean up a bit of the clutter

Formation code​

The formation code has been tweaked as well to make it much easier to use. No need to mess with a bunch of 0's and 1's anymore. More details below.

New data feed​

There is now an 'Inter Data' tab along the top with some pages I setup. This is all custom code I wrote so there's probably going to be some hiccups with it (I already found some that I'll have to debug when I have time). The data is pulled from an api (so don't blame me if you don't agree with the stats or the data is off) which goes back 10 years or so. This will likely require some care and feeding to get working for the new season.

• A fixture list that displays all the seasons fixtures/results and links to the match thread if it exists.
• Player stats
• Squad list w/ links to player thread
• News feed that pulls from a handful of English language news sources
• Expanded Serie A table
• Serie A top scorers/assists

Match thread code​

In attempt to standardize and simplify match threads I've created some code that will use a set pre and post match template to auto generate an image given nothing but the match date. The idea is that every match thread will use this, and then any additional stuff you want to add can be added afterward.

Pre-match, the image will display some data like match time & location, team form data, etc. An hour or so after the match is over, the image will automatically be regenerated to display post-match info like the score, lineups, substitutions, goal scorers, etc. The date must be in the below format, and will only work for official matches, not friendlies, etc. It depends on data pulled from the api, so not sure at what point next season's data will be loaded, I'll probably have to make some updates to get that working when the season starts.

Media integration​

It's now possible and very simple to embed content from Twitter, Reddit, Youtube, Spotify, etc. If you click the 'Media' button on the editor and just paste the URL to the song/video/tweet/etc it will automatically detect the source and generate the BBCode for you.

Here's an example for reddit, but it should be similar for the other sites. So for example if you hit the Media button and then paste in

Well done and major thanks on behalf of the forum! You did a great job!

Well my plan was that by the you saw this thread everything would be done, but it looks like the host may still be doing some cleanup following the IP swap so there may be some disruption until I get the final word that they're done.

I like how immediately upon launch there's a flock of 20 of us viewing the forum. Let us in!

I will also add that we have updated members' "titles" into new distinct categories.

The notifications part when someone @ you is so needed. Very good.

It's fast and looks good even on my tablet.
Now let's find the bugs, haha.

A side effect of this migration might be seeing a lot of people who did not visit for a long time. Email notifications are on by default, so if they're still using the same email address a lot of spam will come their way

It will take some time getting used too but great job, mods!

Interesting, all my email notifications were off by default and in my entire time testing I haven't gotten a single email. I just ran a batch job to disable the "activity summary" emails for all users, but that's the only option available to me. Whatever other email notifications are on might need to be manually disabled.

Also I've been meaning to ask: is this effecting the overall cost of running the site at all? I've been meaning to donate for quite a while now, and if this has increased the bill in anyway I'm more than happy to donate extra.

Low-key annoyed that the Thanks feature got wiped out when I was about 5-6 away from reaching 3000, but I very much like how the default format on this website has more-or-less retained the spirit of FIF about as well as (I'm guessing) was possible.

Mobile friendly is a must nowadays. Switching to Xenforo is the best choice now given how bad vBullentin has been managed.
