Why are you guys so certain he’s coming in to play as a wing back? We need midfielders for sure after Vidal, Radja, Eriksen and maybe even Sensi leave. He can obviously cover as a wing back if need be but I’m sure Dest/Bellerin/Dumfries/whoever will be first choice rotating with Darmian
Because we have more than enough midfielders. Makes no sense to buy another one.

Besides Vidal, Radja, Eriksen and Sensi, there are still Vecino, Gags, Agoume to backup for Hakan, Barella and Brozo. The number is crazy.

4 of the names mentioned will be leaving for certain and Sensi leaves or stays isn’t trustworthy. The only one’s we can depend on are Barella, Brozo, Hakan, Gags and Vecino. We most definitely need another midfielder

According to Pedulla, Nandez has agreed terms with Inter and now the two clubs will try to find an agreement this week.

Italian media claim Inter see Nandez as a Hakimi replacement, not as a midfielder.

Rumor is the salary will be 3m€ net which sounds quite a lot given what this guy has actually done before. Maybe bonuses are included.

There is zero offer for the 4 you mentioned. The cost/ quality ratio is simply overwhelming, and we won't cancel all 4 contracts.

6th midfielder is not that important bro, 1-2 matches per season maybe. Definitely not Nandez main role.

Why the hell, we're offering 3m wage to him? Don't sure how much he earns currently at Cagliari but I'm pretty sure that we doubled the figure.
Good luck to get rid of him if he flops here.
would never pay Nández 3 million euros. great fighter, not much else. hope to be proven wrong

The thing is we want him as a rwb. Grinta isn't enough to be our starting rwb. He needs to have speed and stamina to play the whole side, he needs to be a decent defender and a decent crosser. It wouldn't hurt if he has a good off the ball movement and has an eye for goal. Does he have any of those traits?
He has those, yes. But consistently over a season, cannot know if he can display that. He'll have to do things he probably isn't comfortable doing.
But i do remember him playing right back for Boca at times, but I was mostly watching their big games.

This is a weird move. I don’t like signing players with the intention of playing them of position. A guy like this should be a Barella back up that’s an upgrade on Vecino. Or even a replacement for last seasons version of Vidal. Hard to get excited when this is your Hakimi replacement.

Can he play in front of the defense and also sub for Brozo?

Like talked in some other thread (or was it this one), we might play differently with our wingbacks. Maybe they don't push forward as much as with Conte. Conte has wingbacks as key ingredients in the offensive phase of his game. Attacking is largely based on wings and having width in attack. Maybe Inzaghi doesn't want wingbacks to push as deep and lesser offensive talents will be enough? Specially as we just lost Hakimi. Maybe Nandez is the defensive option who covers the wing and midfield when our midfielders like Barella go forward.

Nandez being an upgrade over Vecino is funny because Vecino played himself to the starting midfielder spot in Copa America while Nandez played himself to the starting RB spot. Vecino played that middle role in midfield for Uruguay (of course it's probably not the same as at Inter). I doubt Nandez is a regista type of player at all but I haven't seen him enough to say anything.

One would hope Inzaghi would try to stick to the way the team is used to playing and the way that won them a scudetto as much as possible.

Here is Nandez playing right back for Uruguay in Copa America vs Bolivia. Decent match to be fair. The benefit of having a natural CM in a wide position is they are comfortable in possession.

Good observation. Conte had actually tried to play some kind of possession football at the beginning of past season with high defense but failed. Since the deep defending and long balls to Lukaku and Hakimi.
I'm a bit worried if Indzaghi insists to use high defensive line as our CB are not the fastest ones out there.

Lazio's defence consisted of Acerbi, Radu, Felipe, etc. That's not a fast defence as well. If it worked for them, surely it can work here.

I am excited to see what Inzaghi does here tactically. Conte's tactics got us stability for the 2nd half of the season, but it was clear as daylight that this is not going to help us step up, especially in Europe.

Still lowkey hoping that Inzaghi moves to a 4-man defence over time.

I'd argue it didn't work for them. I don't have stats, but I remember Lazio being bad defensively, especially near the end of matches, and it was their firepower up front that saved them time and again.

You're right. It didn't work for them. Lazio defence stats under Inzaghi:

2016/17: 51 goals conceded
2017/18: 49 goals conceded
2018/19: 46 goals conceded
2019/20: 42 goals conceded
2020/21: 55 goals conceded

Damn, it seems like they were slowly improving and then suddenly everything went to shit. What happened in the last season?

last season Luiz Felipe was injuried and he barely played. Inzaghi tried with Musacchio and Hoedt, but they were disaster, even Adam Marusić played as a center-back.
Generally it seems it was similar to Conte's Inter - as long as we were playing with our starters it was fine. Luiz Felipe - Acerbi - Radu was very solid, but with Hoedt, Marusić and Parolo it didn't work at all. The same was in Inter, with Kolarov or D'Ambrosio we conceded a lot of goals.

I like this move, it seems safe. He is versatile, apparently solid technique, offers some flexibility in terms of formation down the road…

And he already played with Barella right? That can speed things up in compensating teamwork we lost with Hakimi.
