Prime roma Dzeko was far better than lukaku at technical everything lol never mind a decent replacement. His performance last season wasn't even bad compared to the minutes he got, and i think he had some falling out with the coach and when I saw him play you could tell he was unmotivated and didn't want to play. If he comes here motivated and up for it he could be a great signing for the short term.

Though Mkhitaryan racked up the highest goals and assists, Dzeko was still in a way the most crucial player.

Things looked really disjointed without him. Much like Lukaku, he really made things easier for everyone around him.

If he can stay healthy for long stints, I’m confident that he can still perform.

The only problem with Dzeko is that he is too old and has only 60' efficient minutes per match in his tank. No way we can rely only on him as the Lukaku replacement.

Worrying situation. The gap between him and the second target striker, Pinamonti, is way too big. Like between a Serie A and a Serie B striker.

Imo prime Džeko>prime Lukaku, and it's not coping, just feels obvious. But, Džeko won't be 1/3 as decisive as Rom, due to age, coach, weaker squad etc and no one Inter can buy can replace Rom.

It will take quite a lot of tinkering to make this squad work as good as the previous one with Conte, Rom, Hakimu, Eriksen, which also on its own was not on a CL level.

I'll enjoy Džeko either way, just publicly grounding my expectations.

It's because we all expected his prime to start in United but it didn't happen.

Prime Dzeko scored 29 goals and assisted 12 times (16/17). And more importantly he didn't have any glaring flaw which could nullify him against big teams.

I think Lukaku is unlikely to match that kind of numbers, and even then, I'd still take Dzeko as he was more well rounded.

But Dzeko only had one season of that level. Lukaku consistantly scored 20+ in the league season after season. So overall Lukaku > Dzeko, peak Dzeko (likely)> peak Lukaku.

honestly i don't understand why we can't expect too much from him if players like Giroud and Ibra are still considered good even at +35 years. Or what about Quagliarella at he's age or Luca Toni, they also had a really good season. Sure he's not Lukaku and there are better players i would have got, specialy youngers. But sometimes i get the feeling that he get's a litle bit underrated. What should Milan fans think then? Theyre playing with 2 almost retired strikers.

Exactly! Messi, Zlatan, Suarez, Ronaldo, Benzema, Aguero, Cavani, Dzeko are all still awsome players and can still give a huge hand any team in the world! Age really seems to be just a number todays football? Diet, training, treatment, medication… all helps players to continue their careers and give them extra years and Dzeko seems to be on great shape and hungry!

He will be beast next season!

It's not THAT baffling of a statement, considering what kind of a player Džeko was and what we know about Rom's limitations, but fair enough. Rom still has a looooot to offer and is in a great place to do so.

I just don't remember Dzeko ever being that great of a player. Was he ever a top ten striker in the world? He spent a few years in England where he wasn't even the best striker on his own team. He has one truly great season - 2016-17.

Dzeko has been in Italy for six years now and has one twenty goal season. Lukaku spent two years in Italy and had two twenty goal seasons. I'll admit stats aren't everything, but I'm confident that by the end of Lukaku's career his resume in terms of goals, trophies, and legacy will be superior.

Edit: His Wolfsburg stats were pretty good, but I was literally twelve years old and have no recollection of this. Carry on.

Dzeko was the best attacker of the Bundesliga, even won the league over Bayern. The problem with his years in City was that there was Aguero, who in his prime was a monster. They also had a prime Tevez and bunch of strikers that didnt do that good. At Roma he had one amazing year and rest of them were solid. I dont think he ever was a top 10 striker. Perhaps he was for a year, but not consistently. I'd say he was always around 15-25.
