Earnings for a shitload of companies today and tomorrow.
Probably opportunity will arise for some of them but cannot follow all that I have on my radar.

Seeing lots of people advising to invest long term in the s&p500, what do you people think? I'm afraid to touch anything at the minute because I'm waiting for everything to pop.

That's what I've done so far, I only bought etfs (snp500 is one of them) before and it's done pretty well; never took it out since I put in the money. I actually started picking up individual stock since late last year and honestly I wish I had just stayed with etfs as I would have done much better had I put the money in snp instead. That's my plan going forward; set and forget.

They've been saying it's gonna crash for the longest time, for me id rather dca and not miss out.

It depends how long term your investments are. If you're planning on holding for 30 years, buy now, there's zero point in waiting. If you're trying to do a pump and dump for cash then you should wait it out.

I generally prefer doing total market funds to specific indices.

Best thing to do for retail traders that cannot be bothered to do their own research or who dont know anything about finance or who simply aint got the time.
Unless you have a trusted advisor with a proven track record this imho is the best way to go especially if your investing for the long term. Theres also less need to be bothered about timing when you buy a whole index i.e. they usually recover faster than single overvalued stocks. That being said it took the nasdaq 14 years to recover back to it s feb 2000 highs after the dot.com burst while intel still trades below it s 2000 highs. (took the sp 500 7 years to break even if you bought at peak in 2000.) Also if you bought at peak and held till now you still would have 3x your money +/- thats true for the sp 500 and the nasdaq
My advice for retail traders is usually to just buy the index but spread out the buying. So that you buy the sp 500 every months for example especially if you have a steady income and are gonna put away some of your salary to invest anyways.

Buying the sp 500 wont make you rich but over the long term you ll make a decent amount of money. Might it crash horribly from here on out yes but chances are 10 years down the road you wont regret getting in now.

Side note i said it a million times but timing the market is basically impossible you ll get lucky once or twice but chances are way bigger that you miss out on opportunities than that you time it right and manage to get in at the bottom.

I kind of stopped investing because the “market has been over valued and going to tank since May of 2020”.

it hasn’t buy companies you like and ride that dividends (usually better in a Roth IRA, 401k or IRA to not have to pay tax on the dividends)

I actually been flipping homes. Not going to say it’s easy money…. But if you have the money for a down payment in this seller market you def make a killing. Tho will get raped In taxes. Had to create a company so it didn’t look like I was selling 300-400k homes every few months with a 100k gain.

I've loaded up on Snowflake. I know it's overpriced at the moment, but the tech is really good. I think they'll get bought out in a few years, once they lock in more annuity revenues. Dunno why by, maybe IBM, or Salesforce.

Seeing as red hat was ibm s biggest acquisition of all time and i think the biggest buy of a software company ever at 34 bio in 2019 it s hard to imagine them snapping up snow @ +/- 82 bio....
Also IBM trades at 126 bio market cap and they sure as shit dont have the cash for such a takeover gonna be hard making an acquisition with stock when the target is only valued 30% less than you. Also if snow execs are not complete idiots they ll stay away from IBM.
Similar things can be said about CRM their biggest acquisition was slack at 27 bio...

Not saying it s impossible but i doubt anyone will step in at these prices Imho there s only 3 who could realistically pull it of and thats goog appl and Amazn....

Bottom line i would not bank on a takeover.

Edit: Not saying snow is not a great company or that you wont make money of off this i just dont think it will be cause of a buyout.

Ah I didnt realise IBM was so comparatively small tbh.

The thing is Snowflake is perfect for anyone who wants to get big into the Cloud space. It's incredible technology and I'm sure it will be as pervasive as Oracle was 15 years ago for example.

Amazon don't really do takeovers at this scale afaik but it would make sense for them - Azure and Google have reasonable snowflake competitors but AWS' one sucks balls.

Snowflake might look expensive now but I'm sure in 10 years time it'll look cheap.

That's what I said about Square after initially missing out. Then said fuck it, I'll still regret not getting in at the mid 200s

Honestly the tech for snowflake is amazing. If they screw it up from here it'll be bad decisions not bad tech imho.

I'm doing the snowflake certification for work at the moment so getting a lot of exposure to it.

Here i agree with you as far as i can tell their tech is great, again my point was more that i would not bet on a takeover in order to make money because of the current valuation of Snow. I do regret not pulling the trigger when they were trading in the high 180s as i got greedy and thought i might get em cheaper....

I ll be on the sidelines for the time being till they either post earnings that blow me away or till the risk reward metrics look rigtht to me which they dont atm, then again that is true for a large bulk of the market.

Yeah I do think the current valuation of whack but it has no signs of subsiding, like tesla. And on a 5/10 yesr view I think it'll be cheap either way now

Quite some strong rumours that david li and lei jun wanna take joyy private at a +/- 8 bio valuation their rumored to be willing to pay between 75/100usd
the adr currently trades at 60$ in pre market trading up 7% in AH (high was 65). If they open in the 60$ region it might be worth the risk as you could make a quick 25-50%.

Then again i do wonder why they would even bother to buy back the ADR as the holders dont really have a claim to any assets outside the US.

I have £180 in degiro from sold amc stocks. If I withdraw I have to pay tax. Anything I can lump them into? Not too worried about losing that. It's 180 from like £30. I've just had them sitting dormant for a few months now and need to do something with it
