Imo late bloomer's most of the times have qualities that make them special towards the last years of their career. Instinct, football IQ, etc... Things that can still improve while their body decline but what does Vecino have other than running fast with the ball or running into the box on crosses ? He is not technical, doesn't have great vision, great shooting, great passing, isn't any good defensively and tbh isn't particularly reliable when passing the ball around the midfield nor is he any useful tactic-wise.

Perisic is kind of a late bloomer, while he has lost most of his speed, he still has insane workrates due to his mentality (lost it a bit under Spalletti but yeah...) , can shoot/cross with both feet and is a very decent goal scorer. He can adapt as a wing back as well, I can't see anything on Vecino's side honestly.

Vecino will almost certainly renew. Why? Because it's the cheapest possible option. We can't afford to buy players for shit, and while signing free agents has always been notoriously expensive, recently it's become a outright farce. Despite the fact we are already paying simply obscene salaries for the likes of Sanchez, Vidal, Dzeko and Calhanoglu, management will not want to add further big salaries to the wage bill.

Simply put: a yearly gross amount of €4-5m on Vecino's salary is smaller than a transfer fee (plus wages of course) for a new player, and also smaller than the big wages that a free agent will demand.

Here we have the perfect explanation why we might extend Vecino. If he agrees renewal by maybe lowering salary and definitely accepting bench role, we gonna renew him.

This club is bleeding money so all the expenditure must be only absolute necessities (like Correa, Dumfries signings) and Vecino replacement is not such thing.

Vecino has been surprisingly okay this season and offers a different kind of energy. As long as he is not a guaranteed starter, I have no issue to have him around until he finishes his contract.

It is important that our players continue to evolve. Vidal stops being a box-to-box midfield and he's an excellent CM again. Perisic learnt how to play LWB last season and will learn how to be a SS this year. Likewise, Vecino stops just being a pure DM/CM and now understands how to time his run into the box.

When we criticise a player, it's important to recognise that they are not static in their career development. They're just like us - a hothead in our 20s then slowly learning how to adapt to a leadership role in our 30s. From time to time you get an idiot like Joao Mario or Gabigol. But credit is due when Vecino deserves it so.

I don’t know why but he and Dumfries seem to just click for some reason.

He has a role to play in certain games. The issue was in the past when he was in the starting 11. Similar to Gagliardini, they still can offer certain things in certain games. Vecino more so in an open game, while Gagliardini against the weaker teams (mainly Genoa/Sampdoria lol).

Ideally we would have better players in place of both, but given our financial situation we cannot have 7 starting-calibre players. I can't recall the wages, but I believe one of the main issues with Vecino is that he's paid more than a 6th midfielder should be.

He may offer more under Inzaghi than Conte. Conte was very rigid at times in terms of a role/space the player should occupy, but with Inzaghi, we attack with more players in the box and this can really suit Vecino.

Lol we keep falling for this. Next week FIF will go back to trashing him again.

I'm a firm believer of competition, all Inter players should be pushing each other for a starting spot, those who fail to perform should be at risk losing their place in the team. That's how you get the best out of your squad. This is Vecino's 5th season and at no point have any of our starting mids ever feared for their starting spot. Barella could score a hattrick of own goals next match day and still start next match day. A player like Vecino doesn't belong here.

It's not an indication of basically anything if FIF reacts in a certain way.

Vecino being here and possibly staying after this season has everything to do with our financial situation. If the management sees they can't sign equivalent player for cheaper annual price or better player with the same annual price, I guess Vecino will stay. Given he's okay with it (bench role).

I get that, but even if his annual price was 1 Euro, Vecino is not a player that belongs here. We need to look beyond the financials and consider: can Vecino deputize for any of our starting midfielders in any capacity beyond a 10 minute cameo when the game is already won? If the answer is "no" then you'd rather spend those extra millions on getting a player who can, because God help us if Barella/Brozo get injured.

And my thesis was exactly that. If management can replace Vecino with the same annual cost but getting better quality, they will do so. What I'm saying is that it's probably not so easy. No matter how much you people hate Vecino. He's still an Uruguay NT starter basically. Maybe there is something in his game people do not appreciate but the coaches do?

I think that was the plan with Nandez, but that fell through - both because we're cheap and because Giulini is a prick.
