He begged Inter three times to return but Mancini didn't want him the one time we could have made the deal.

I struggle to understand this weird form of Stockholm syndrome that leads some people to justify any shit the players do.

No, he joined Milan because he likes Italy, Man City was a shit club and Ronaldo wouldn't have gone to the Premier League and PSG was a nouveau-riche club that was in an ownership turmoil at the time. Both these clubs had new ownership but not the current one. There was no potential for him, while Milan was still a Champions League squad (and they had won it the same year).

Changing between Milan and Inter isn't as bad as moving to Juventus. Milan and Inter generally have good relationship but obviously the fans, being from the same city, like to take the piss out of each other. It's a sporting rivalry, it's not like an "uomo di merda" move to do this kind of deals. Obviously legends just don't make this kind of switch, but it's not unprecedented.

And the irony of it all is that Moratti pretty much gave Ronaldo his blessing on the Milan transfer....

even assuming it's true, it's not a good excuse. and i wouldn't even have much to say about it, if he wasn't trying to sell the thing as something different from what it is, betraying us.

As a die hard Zamorano fan I used to hate Ronaldo because of the number 9 issue (older dudes would remember what I'm talking about) ,but fat Ronaldo was the reason why the legend of 1+8 was born. So ,I don't hate fat Ronaldo anymore :)

By far the greatest player that came after Maradona, no question.

The issue with the greatest ever is that you cannot really enjoy them, there's always some issue coming in the way, a rise & fall. Makes it extremely hard to digest Messi as one of those given how he survived a 15+ year career.

WC 98 in France. I was on holiday with my parents and somehow my dad got hold of some tickets. Although I was supporting Holland and was a young kid Ronaldo caught my eyes immediately (Even a blind man would recognize his class). I remember him making a run from his own half in extra extra time and just shook Frank de Boer and Jaap Stam off like they were kids. ( 1 of the better CB's partnership we had). I will never forget those moments. I've bought a shirt of Ronaldo and tried to do his step-overs etc (even though I was a defender). And that's exactly what Ronaldo did for me and my friends: We all wanted to be like him and trying to do his tricks and study him.

Almost a year later I saw him playing against Manchester United with our beloved clubs and fell in love with Inter and a love triangle was born. I now have a Inter shirt from season 97-98 with Ronaldo hanging in my living room. I still get excited if I watch him on YT, because of Ronaldo my love for football was born.
