I’d be willing to try the experiment. It would be mostly tactics driven. If we want him to mark Mo Salah while we play a high line he’s going to get eaten alive. We would have to basically play a low block any time he was in that position. Honestly though I’m not sure it would be much better with Dimarco or Perisic.

Inter and Italy defender Alessandro Bastoni reveals the players who most inspired him, why he won’t take Nicolò Barella or Marcelo Brozovic out to dinner, and the surprising toughest striker he’s ever marked.

The former Atalanta and Parma centre-back spoke to comedy group Gli Autogol on their Twitch channel and spilled the beans on his career.

“Other than the obvious Marco Materazzi and Walter Samuel, the defender I take the most inspiration from is Sergio Ramos. I was able to talk to him after Inter played Real Madrid and he sent me his jersey for my birthday. I love his attitude on and off the field.”

Bastoni thanked former Inter coach Antonio Conte, because “I wouldn’t be here without the lessons he taught me,” but gave an amusing answer when asked which of his Inter teammates he’d take out to dinner.

“I won’t go with Barella, because he’d order wine worth €1,800 or something, so he can just stay in the room. Brozo is hard work to take out to dinner, more than anything hard work getting him home. So I’ll offer dinner to Milan Skriniar as thanks for all the effort he puts in defence.”

When it comes to the toughest striker he has marked in Serie A, Bastoni surprisingly did not choose your classic Cristiano Ronaldo or Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“It’s not a walk in the park against either of them, but Gonzalo Higuain at Juventus is the one who caused me the most problems.”

Interesting he chose Higuain as the player that caused him the most problems. I guess he must very heavy and hard to tackle.

We always called him Dr. Promašaj with him missing so many chances, he was rated just right (meaning he is rated overall). It's Benzema that was madly underrated IMO. Especially because he was hated for his NT antics.

They're actually similar.
Benzema is also very underrated, but Higuain gets extra hate for making (too loud) big misses. Between the two the best one is Benzema, but Higuain is one of the top 10 strikers of the decade easily.

If we include CR ballarina, you then also have Lewandowski, Luis Suarez, Benzema, Aguero, Ibrahimovic, Cavani, are the locks and I'd add Higuain there leaving his mark at Real Madrid and Serie A. He's safe in the top 10 with 2 spots to spare, it's just that he's declined abruptly at the end of the decade.
Maybe Diego Costa deserves a top 10 shout and fuck face Mandzukic is an underrated shout as he didn't score much. Then you have several players that had a few great seasons but haven't played much otherwise, or at a high level (Tevez, Falcao, Van Persie etc) but whatever. And I'm sure you'll want to include your buddy Kane on the list but I won't be having any of that :D

What about our very own Dzeko. Arguably could be in that list.

I'm shocked you're not including Lukaku in that list 😮

Lukaku is just not there. He was playing for West Brom and Everton whilst being a failure at Chelsea and not having a great impact at Manchester United. He's hardly a top 20 choice. He's sort of a Di Natale lite, playing the full decade. Or a bizarro Morata clone...

Icardi is also struggling to make the cut because he played for Inter's banter era and wasn't really around for the first 3 seasons of the decade.

Top 10 strikers must have been part of CL, championship contending sides and appeared in late stages of big international tournaments. The list for the 2010s isn't that great actually.

Thought this was the Bastoni thread :yao:

TMW: Bayern Munich tried to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter last summer. The Bavarian club had targeted the Italian youngster as a possible replacement for David Alaba who ended up at Real Madrid as a free agent. Inter’s evaluation for Bastoni was around €60M which was not a problem for the financial account of the Germans.

But that intention collided with Bastoni’s choice of 100% staying at Inter. He wanted to become a symbol of this team which he is also a fan of growing up. On the other hand, Alessandro is only 22 years old, is with the national team and his contract has just been extended.

It is highly possible that both sides will meet again in 2022 to further extend Bastoni’s contract (current one runs out in 2024). In any case, Alessandro Bastoni has made it clear that his future is going to be: it will be at Inter for as long as possible.

60m evaluation is a joke. Hakimi 2nd, if not worse.

Still not back to last year's performance, the penalty today was correct according to the letter of the law, but it really wasn't intentional and at close range so he was harshly done. Despite that err9r he still was pretty bad by his past standards.

Looks exposed as a LCB this year and that’s purely down to how compact we were last year vs this year. All of a sudden he looks slower and clumsier, but that’s because we’re asking him to defend open spaces against a speeding winger like Felipe Anderson.

I don’t really think his performances have changed much. It’s the tactics that have changed.

The whole defensive trio is shit this season. With De Vrij as the worst of the three.

What? Skriniar has been a beast these 10 matches. Agreed on De Vrij and to a lesser degree Bastoni.
Still not as good as last season, he had his shares of mistakes. Today he was in involved in both second and third goal.
