Transfermarkt has updated the market values in the Eredivisie. One change stands out in particular: the drastic fall of Ajax’s André Onana. The 25-year-old goalkeeper drops from €30 to now €17 million, a loss of 43.3 %. In the history of TM market values, no player in the Dutch top tier experienced such a minus – a €13 million drop is a new record.

We’re getting him for this. He’s a better footballer thann Gags and Vecino combined.

Would be great help for Brozo building the play from the back.

Man needed performance enhancing drugs to play in goal, you think he has the legs to replace Brozo??

Since Conte's debut up until now we've always had trouble playing out of the back against good, high pressing sides. This was covered up by the decision to play a lot of longballs. Either from Brozovic lying deep directly to Lukaku (or Lautaro) - who then usually recycle(s) possession to the wingback or closest wide midfielder marching up -, or to the Wingback who positions high(er), redistributes it to the wide centreback or to the closest midfielder, who then will play the ball into Lukaku (Lautaro). We also had to privilege of seeing Hakimi cosplaying the Roadrunner at times on a through ball. All in all, the midfield was predominantly bypassed, or at least the central area of the pitch was against high pressing teams. Ironically, playing over the wide areas of the pitch for a team that on paper, has an overload of players centrally and only has one player on each wing.

This season the trouble is more of an actual problem. We lack all the pace up front and while Dzeko can do some good target man impressions, he's ultimately not as strong as Lukaku at fending off opponents from the ball. Our build-up from the back seems not much different than Conte's. We still tend to see that 4-4-2 pattern with one WB going high (usually left side Perisic, now that we don't have Hakimi) and the same sided CB playing as a fullback (usually Bastoni). Which then usually results in Brozovic having to drop deep to collect the ball.

You might think I've posted this in the wrong thread - but the Onana part is about to come.

The fact u have a keeper who can do basically the same job as Brozovic, can free up a lot in terms of building-up. Brozovic will not have to drop deep and collect the ball each time - thus playing through the middle will be incentivised. And even if Brozovic drops deeper, one of Skriniar/De Vrij could easily decide to move up. They don't need to both stay there to cover Handanovic's weaker passing abilities - no shade to Handanovic, but it's not the best of his abilities. I think this is an aid we cannot underappreciate.

I'm usually skeptical or more reserved when it comes to compilation videos, but this one does him justice. You can see he's very two footed, very relaxed (maybe a bit too relaxed) and has a huge arsenal of passes. Long, short, chips, ...

And besides all of that, Onana is still a great standard goalkeeper. Strong one-on-ones and great reflexes. He will not be explicitly inferior to Handanovic in that regard.

He's also young for a a GK, so we could have a bright future of many years for a GK we signed for "free" (likely big signing bonus).

Excited to get him and I hope we give Handanovic a proper goodbye and hopefully we can incorporate him as GK coach or something different to his liking. Handanovic will always be a legend to me. He stayed with Inter throughout the banter years being way too good for the teams at hand.

That said, I'm very aware we're Internazionale and chances are high we'll get fucked over somehow. Either his form completely crashed due to his ban, and he'll never recover. Or his wife, or "his wife" will drug him again.

Forza

Watched pretty much all of that video, and certain that our heroes in black and blue would have miscontrolled 90% of those passes

True...I am imagining Onana delivers those long balls to Dumfries, and he swears fuck him all the time.

"he" and "him" can be understood in both ways

I genuinely wouldnt be surprised if there was an Eriksen /Onana+3m swap. It means we can recover some kind of value for Eriksen, and get some plusvalenza back to Ajax and sign Onana in Jan

According to Gazzetta, Inter will announce the signing of Onana in February. He's going to earn 3m net per season.
