Osimhen suffered multiple facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Saturday

The Nigeria international was visibly dazed and his face was badly swollen as he staggered off the pitch at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this evening.

It was an accidental clash of heads as they both went for the ball, but Osimhen was caught on the cheekbone by the back of Skriniar’s head and came off much worse.

He looked visibly dazed, his eye and cheek were very swollen within minutes of the clash, all suggesting a possible fracture.

The 21-year-old has been taken to the San Raffaele Hospital for tests after he was diagnosed with head trauma.

It’s bad news for Napoli, as Osimhen is comfortably their top scorer this season with nine goals in 13 appearances between Serie A and the Europa League.

He is also not new to head injuries, as last term he was knocked unconscious when landing awkwardly, hitting the back of his head on the turf.

Because of that, and a loss of memory, Osimhen was out for several weeks due to concussion protocols.

Victor Osimhen could miss the next eight Napoli games! The 22-year-old will remain out of action for at least one month.

Grande Skriniar - boss performance + making sure Inter catches up and tops Napoli by eliminating its top scorer.

That was horrible. Never seen so many clash of heads in one match.

Grande Skriniar - boss performance
Not sure we should be celebrating this  Tough injury, might need a mask to carry on and will likely contest less headers for a time. Tough luck Napoli fans.

UPDATE:
Napoli reveal their star striker Victor Osimhen will remain out of action for three months after undergoing a cheekbone operation
The surgeon who operated on Victor Osimhen’s facial fractures reveals the Napoli and Nigeria striker required ‘six plaques and 18 screws’ to repair the ‘devastating’ damage.

It was an accidental clash of heads at San Siro with Inter defender Milan Skriniar, but one that did an extraordinary amount of damage to the centre-forward’s face. It was immediately clear from the swelling that he had fractured his cheekbone, although tests later showed the extent of the injury resulted in multiple fractures to the cheekbone and orbital bone.

He will be out of action for circa 90 days – three months – ruling him out of the Africa Cup of Nations.
“Osimhen’s injury was not just a simple fracture to the cheekbone, as it involved many other bones in his face,” explained surgeon Gianpaolo Tartaro to 1 Stadion Radio.

“It wasn’t an impact injury, it was one of compression. The kinetic force generated by the crushing of Osimhen’s face against the back of Skriniar’s head did devastating damage.
“In order to repair the fractures, I had to insert six plaques and up to 18 screws.”

Although the figure given for a full recovery is 90 days, Osimhen’s surgeon warns it is still too early to tell the full effects of this injury.
“It really was a complex operation. The condition of his face was really bad, but I can guarantee the surgery was a complete success.”

Get him a new contract ASAP. Current one ends in ‘23.
100% agree, Milan earned it and we should secure his services by giving him a 5 years deal.

The real captain of Inter BUT he is not Italian:palm:.

The only guy who can take on the role that Zanetti left behind.
Haha true, but Zanetti wasn't Italian either, so it's all good.

Guilty. 🙋‍♂️

I can't say i am a huge fan of this move. He was decent at an extremely mediocre Sampdoria side but i can't say he had impressed me. Hopefully he's a hidden gem and not just another Martin Skrtel. I hope Spalletti and Sabatini know what they're doing.
Welcome aboard Skriniar. Make us forget you have such a terrible first name.

Probably my worst take on the forum. In my defence i saw the light pretty fast, made a complete u-turn and was one of his biggest apologists when many wanted him gone in 2020.
