This game has been a good watch. This is why premier league will always get the casuals.
Casual viewing for casual football. That's why it's the "best" and why it's popular. It's just so random that people love seeing a ball being ping ponged that way over 90 minutes....

I see no reason we should shit out pants against Liverpool. Their midfield in this game is really average.

Their midfield isn't good, what's good is their offensive transition so you cannot give them any space. Or many chances.

And no matter how good they are, they are a team with an extremely high team chemistry degree. Similar to how Manchester United's brigade of useless turds under Ferguson* showed up all the time. You cannot discount a true coach's team this way.

* Darren Fletcher, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Gary Neville and on and on...

I agree, someone in our team needs to take their chances on their leaky defense though, that's where I'm not certain in being Inter's strength.

True to an extent. ManU had someone like Scholes pulling the strings and also Giggs. Kind of balanced things out.
As long as Salah is kept in check I feel we can pull another Inter-Barcelona 2010.

This ain't no Barcelona. Football is just so shit that the top teams aren't that scary anymore but everyone else is just so poor or useless that they cannot keep up.

I’m not sure how the casuals would enjoy this shitfest of a match.

Would they enjoy seeing defenders fuck up simple passes? Or both teams couldn’t string together 2 passes?

The neutrals mostly likely tuned in because its Chel vs Liv, 2 of the most popular teams in the world, but other than that, the quality was terrible?

I don't know how people still call Premier League a "competitive league". It used to be so before 2015 but City have won 3/4 in recent 4 years and it's probably going to be 4/5 this season. It's obvious no team has the potential to compete with them now in PL.

The speed and tempo is the thing for the casuals and there's plenty of that in EPL. Lots of shit happening.

many people dont want to watch technical football, they'd raher see high velocity, high intensity, lots of chances, et.c

And, really, who can blame them? You can see star players ignore their defensive duties, and focus exclusively on attacking. In Serie A, we play Eto'o as a right back. Fine, that's not as true now as it was in 2010, but there's still more of a defensive and full contribution mindset than there is in the premiership, for example

And the worst thing is there isn't even a title fight. With the exception of 2018/19, it's just a team cruising to the title. If this was happening at another country you would read comments about a farmers league. But it's EPL, best league in the world, bla bla bla and no one cares about it.

in fairness, i think people also look at the competitiveness of the top 4. the average level of, say, the top 6 sides in the premiership is far higher (IMHO) than the top 6 certainly, and even arguably top 4 in Serie A.

The level of the top 3 is higher. But the level of the rest isn't that high. Clubs like Arsenal and West Ham certainly aren't better than Serie A top 4.

Let's not forget the marketing of the EPL (over hyping of Pulisic) and ease of access. In the US, the EPL is on a major network and lots of other matches are on standard "cable" packages. The other leagues are not so much, Serie A is only found on Paramount + for the most part and previously on ESPN + . Same is true for La Liga and Bundesliga both on ESPN +. The only readily available other football is MLS and Liga MX in the US.

Look at other sports too, NFL and NBA tout essentially "fast break" games. The days of defensive and cagey matches are gone. As for the competive aspect, none have that for quite awhile. The only competition is to make "the playoffs" and that's true across all major sports. That has even been diluted with the advent of the Conference League.

IMHO the top 6 is a bit distorted atm, as soime clubs hit form. But for me, the 'normal' top 6 in the premiership is:
Liverpool
City
Chelsea
Man Utd
Tottenham
~ open question - maybe West Ham this season?

They suffer for being in a harder league, but lets not forget Man Utd came top of their CL group, for example, with 1 W 1 D vs Atalanta.

Anyway, my point was the 'average' level. Including Arsenal on that to make 7, I'd say you've got 3 clubs we can feel damn confident in making the CL, and then any of the other 4 could make it.

Over in Italy, anything short of Inter, Milan, Napoli, Atalanta making the CL next season is a reflection of a complete epic failure by one of those four clubs.

Funny you mention Man Utd games against Atalanta when they suffered a lot in those two games and they had to perform impressive comebacks. Also Tottenham have finished 6th and 7th in the last two seasons so they need to show on the pitch they're a top 5 side.

We could also argue Serie A top 4 is also distorted with Juve underperforming so badly. Juve failing to finish in top 4 is a lot bigger failure than Milan, Napoli or Atalanta misisng on top 4.
