Seems he'll get another chance in Barcelona. I somehow want him to succeed there. Well, I hope Barca won't win anything, but I want Coutinho to play well.

Lol. The Dembele and Coutinho deals have to some of the worst deals in the history of the game. I was in disbelief when I saw these two signed on those mamooth deals. Barto and the barca board should be some next level dumbass to think these two worth half the amount they paid for them. What a waste of money.

agreed, and they cant even offload them now with substantial minusvalenza. between that, suarez and messi's salaries, barca have really managed to mega fuck up.

Like I said in another thread, in an ideal world you probably replace a first team player every season and 1/2 on the bench, just to keep your average age down. Barca should have fought tooth and nail to sign someone like Barella, Skriniar, but instead they've been focused on trying to find their unicorn Neymar replacement and instead have 3 guys (Griez, Cou, Dembele) who arent good enough and REALLY expensive.

Yeah. And they even might be good enough, at least some of them, but they didn't and haven't fit to Barcelona, partly because of Messi, and to some extent Suarez. The incompetence and megalomania of the Barcelona board is really astonishing.

Moved to Aston Villa on a loan + option deal until the end of the season.

They will cover 70% of his salary, not sure what the option is. I'd imagine it is around 30m.

For full disclosure, we were also onto him but could not reach terms with Barcelona as they had rejected our offer and any potential deal died before it even surfaced.

I dont buy it. Where would Coutinho fit into our line up? It'd be a huge formational change. Not least, practically, salary etc requirements would hamper us.

Alexis Sanchez replacement.

And that's why it didn't advance, we showed intent but nothing else came to fruition to enable the deal so we abandoned it as it made no sense. We just tried our luck.

It would have been obvious in the situation we sell/terminate Sanchez and loan Coutinho for 6 months.

We actually went for a full transfer, but I am not sure what demands we'd have from Barcelona to cover that massive salary.

They wanted to clear a roster spot but didn't want to take a big hit, so our relatively small transfer offer wasn't going to cut it.

Aston Villa is paying over 2/3 of his massive salary. They probably won't exercise this option but it's there. The guy just wants some playing time to be able to play in the World Cup anyway, but his next destination will be more crucial imo, so he's auditioning for some stupid club like Manchester United, PSG or Chelsea I suppose.
