So that's Bethesda and now Activision Blizzard within 12 months.

Something something antitrust laws.

Deal is not done and has not gotten the ok from regulators....
Also deals targeted closing date is in 2023 I d assume they left a bit of extra time cause they expect regulators to have a word or two with them.

That being said i doubt this wont get through even with ATVI it s gonna be hard to argue that MSFT has a dominating position in the gaming industry...

Well at least Bobby left the firm.

Microsoft might just saved Blizzard from imploding. Not gonna play any game of theirs, they don't deserve my money.

As far Machine games/Id/Bethesda acquisition goes, I play shooters on PC, so I'm not bothered. As long Microsoft doesn't buy TakeTwo (Rockstar), I'm good

Antitrust doesn’t exist in the us if you are too big to fail.

The largest drug company purchased the 2nd biggest insurance company that also owned the most walk in clinics haha

So now they don’t want you to
Go to the hospital but a walk in clinic, to use their pharmacy exclusively as well….

if that’s not a problem… Microsoft owning most video game publishers shouldn’t be. Especially since most those developers could quit and go somewhere else.

They are basically saying world of war craft and call of duty is worth more than Dc comics, marvel comics and Star Wars combined which is dumb.

Majority of sales are for smartphones/tablets/handheld devices, it's available on every imaginable console and operating system. It's likely the #1 go-to way for parents to distract their small children nowadays. It's a phenomena alright.

Think of it as a modern-day Lego more than a video game to put it in proper scale perspective.

Seems slightly more complicated to be this casual friendly with all those goddamn pixels and the building aspect.

Would have imagined something like Pokemon, but maybe not being in the smartphone era when it exploded is against it.

Been exploring the pc game pass. I’m pretty impressed with the catalogue thus far. For 10usd a month, you can’t go wrong. Activision Blizzard coming in could be huge. Can’t imagine how Sony will compete. Steam might even take a hit.

As of now, the reports say the biggest problem of SteamDeck is battery life. For Portal 2 on 60fps it's about 5 hours of battery life, handheld mode, which is pretty okay, but more hardware demanding games like Horizon Zero Dawn makes it only 3 hours of playing. Compared to Switch it's not great. You'll have to dock it every time you stop playing handheld.

Good thing that you can use it as a PC with a monitor, keyboard and mouse as well, which is probably the most how I'd use it, but I really need to get a real review first of all the features and how good the sticks are. I will probably wait until a year after release, because there is still a slight chance this is gonna be some ultra hot device that has a lot more weight than Switch and that there are lots of games you can't normally play on it. Well, we'll see. The prices are great tho, 650 dollars for the maximum option is pretty cheap.

Also, I didn't know US PSN accounts have different pricing and different collections on it. Yakuza Origins (0, remake of 1, remake of 2) is 20bucks in US, but there is no Yakuza Origins collection in Europe and just Yakuza 0 is 20 euros, which is actually more! Wtf. From now on I'll be perusing through both accounts for best deals and anybody from Europe with a PS4 or PS5 should too!

Does anyone have a Nintendo Switch? Was considering buying one for my nephew in the holidays but I was advised against it by the parents. Its games give me a retro vibe so I want to buy one for myself after all

Europe and Australia iirc have the highest cost on video games.

The UK is cheaper and then North America is super cheap. Used to import a bunch of PS3 games from Canada, it was like 10-20 euros each whereas the same games were going 50-70 euros over here. There was a tax loophole, the sales tax didn't apply for exports there and they were too slow to implement tariffs over here. Last couple of years they caught up but I already have like 100+ PS3 games  Which console I actually gave away to a friend a couple of years ago, would love it if PS5 could handle those. Assuming it's ever around to buy.

As promised I’ll give you guys my thoughts on two games I’ve been playing recently:

Assassins Creed Unity

I know that in all likelihood nobody is going to care about this (especially 7 years after it’s release :yao:) but I need to get this off my chest. Just to be clear: I’ve played every AC game from AC 2 to Unity and despite not being able to call myself a hardcore fan of the series, I definitely appreciate what Ubisoft has created in the past, especially in regards to the historical settings and the parkour. This is also the first AC game that I’ve played since Black Flag was released in 2013, so yeah, it’s been a while. My copy has been catching dust for years, since I never bothered to play it because of all the negative feedback it received.

I kept my expectations low in regards to the story, especially because of other Ubisoft games released around that time, which had insultingly bad stories (Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs) and AC 3 was incredibly lackluster as well. As expected the the plot didn’t have much to it and neither was Arno a particularly charismatic nor likable protagonist. In my opinion it was boring and uninspired from start to finish and culminated in a convoluted mess.

I’ve heard a lot of people praise the „new“ and „more fluid“ parkour system, but in all honesty, I found it to be quite underwhelming. Arno is slow and clunky as shit and controls like a fuckin’ lorry most of the time. You still jump or climb on stuff you don’t want to jump or climb onto, going through windows often only works after a multiple tries, and overall I was under the impression, that the parkour was dumbed down to the point were it only served as means to get from A to B. I can only recall a single story mission which was centered around parkouring, and that was towards the very end of the game. Mini games like chasing after chanties or races against the clock were completely removed.

The combat is, as in any AC game, relatively average. Arno fights in slow motion, the controls are often completely unresponsive and since countering got nerfed it’s not possible anymore to kill a dozen enemies by spamming square without even absorbing a single hit. This is especially frustrating if an enemy carries a pistol, since they eat your health for breakfast, and if there’s a sniper on the roof (which there are plenty of) you’re basically fucked, since they can one shot or two shot (at most) you and you’re dunzoe.

The mission design is mediocre at best, although admittedly there are at least a few good levels in there. Unfortunately the stealth aspect falls short quite often. If you get discovered in an open area by one guy you’ll have 50 enemies on your ass within a matter of seconds. Fortunately the ultimate cheat in order to easily complete almost any level in the game is to bum rush your target like a crazy baboon. This also works when you haven’t even figured out where the target is even located, just spam eagle vision while you’re getting chased and you’re good because everybody else is too slow to catch you lol.

Side missions are repetitive as fuck and in general far too easy. In other games you would at least interact with bizarre characters who want you to do something or at least provide some entertaining dialogue. I’ve encountered a guy who was wearing a dress, who wanted me to fight a few duels against some rowdies and that was basically the highlight when it comes to side quests.

The only aspect about the game which is generally well executed is the game world. Paris looks stunning and the graphics even look great 7 years later. But even the open world has it’s flaws. The game has immense technical problems. If you’re running on ground level the frame rate goes to shit and by that I mean single digit frames per second. I’ve encountered quite a few bugs like corpses spazzing out and multiple info windows popping up over each other (that one happens every time you take a side mission lmao), and others forced me to restart the game a handful of times, like NPCs refusing to continue to walk in missions.

Character customization is quite good in this game, there a tons of cool looking pieces of clothing, but the best shit in the game is unfortunately locked behind a paywall, unless to sink an ungodly amount of time into those shitty side quests.

Overall the game provided some entertainment, but the flaws outnumber the positives by a landslide. I think my AC journey ends with Unity, I doubt that future games revolutionized the series and overall I just don’t believe the series can really compete with other top tier open world games anymore.

Yakuza 0

Small disclaimer: This is not a review, but rather my first impressions, if you can call it that after 13 hours of playing time. Obviously there won’t be any story spoilers.

Yakuza has been on my radar for quite a while now, so I’ve added Yakuza 0 to my game collection. According to my research this is the best game to kick off the series for a noob like me, since it is a prequel to the very first Yakuza title, and is supposedly one of the best games in the entire series.
I’ll try to keep this shorter so here are some observations:

This game features a lot and I mean A LOT of cutscenes and they’re ridiculously long too. The dialogue is generally very well translated (no English dub, just subtitles), consistently snappy and the Japanese voice casts does a great job. Depending on who you’re talking to, it is either going to be pretty serious (main story) or bizarre and hilarious (random encounters with strangers). In both cases though, and this is really important if you consider buying this game, you’re going to get absolutely crushed with dialogue. This game will test your patience, I’ve been asking myself quite frequently when I finally get to actually play, it honestly feels like a conversation simulator. Out of those 13 hours in game time I’d say that the actual playing time is below 50%, I’m not even kidding. So yeah keep that in mind, I know a lot of people don’t like that.

The gameplay consists of beating the living shit out of your foes. There are numerous fighting styles, which you learn along the way, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages. Visually they’re all distinguishable from another and the developers have been quite creative with power attacks. The protagonists punches feel powerful too, overall the combat is done well, me gusta.

The game is set in Tokyo in the 80’s. You don’t get to use cars and the map is tiny, but I’m really digging the open world. It is great stylistically, feels vibrant and is packed with side activities like karaoke, arcade stores, strangers missions etc., just to name a few. There’s one enemy type who is among the most obnoxious I’ve ever encountered in any video game. Those guys act and look super goofy and can melt your healthbar within seconds, two hits and you’re dead.

Despite the dialogue to gameplay ratio I like the game a lot. It’s entirely possible that I’m going to play Yakuza Kiwami at some point in the future, that one’s a remake of Yakuza 1 I believe.
Those are my thoughts for now, if I’ve missed something I’ll update my post later on.

Please do post an update, I'm very interested. Most people say Yakuza 0 is in the top3 of the whole series.

Yeah, I got it like half a year before I got myself a PS5. It's weak as far hardware goes, but some games still look colourful and amazing (Zelda:BOTW, Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey, Smash Bros,..)

Now it depends how many consoles you have, because there are a lot of games from other consoles (or PC) that are also on Switch, and usually Switch games have a skyhigh price that almost never drops. Together with the fact, that there are barely any consoles exclusives, you really need to want the games that they do have to offer  otherwise it's no point in getting it, even tho the handheld mode is a big plus.

I would mostly recommend Switch because of Zelda games (Breath of the Wild 2 will be released this year) and all the great home-multiplayer games like Mario Party, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros, because with that you have cool games for when you get visits. It is the best console for kids, of all the consoles out there.

Otherwise, Ionno, I might buy Hades because I'd love to play that game anywhere I go, but overall I think that if SteamDeck is really gonna be as good as advertised, I'll be playing stuff on SD a lot more.

What I would recommend - getting a new Switch, playing the games you'd like to play and decide if you want to keep it or sell it after a year or two.

I still have SEGA Mega Master, SEGA Mega Drive and Super Nintendo (and I bought another one 10 years ago), why on earth would I sell a brand new Switch?

My main issue is that I have a bunch of PS4 games that I recently bought and around 10 of them are still with the nylon cover. I need my television on almost 24/7 so I cannot commit to a tv based console like PlayStation for more than a few hours a month on weekends. Might change that now that I'm switching my work environment and changing my working hours, I can always catch up with the news later on so a bit of PS4 for breakfast won't hurt :D

Can you get it used? To me it sucks. Kids have it, nephews have it. I bought it for them. It is a Nintendo Wii but portable..... Graphics are the same as a Wii. Worst yet they sell Nintendo Wii games for $60.. almost 13 years after they came out. 85% of the games are Nintendo Wii U games. A system that failed and everyone hated. So all games are at least 8-10 years old + $60.

Worst yet the system is notorious for controller drift. Basically your controllers pull to the right so when you are on the start menu you need to use all your strength to push left to play the game you actually want.

Online is a joke but now for $10 you can play a lot of the best NES, Super NES games (no TMNT :( tho .... )

Honestly for kids under 8 its great but think my nephews prefer their iPads and the Apple Arcade. Its the only place to play Mario or Zelda and that's the only reason they still exist as a company. For anyone over 10.... if you have the $$$ and another system/ PC why not. If you want notogolia just download ROMs and play them on your computer.

I come from a place where we have 100 year old tables and 150 year old armchairs.

No, I cannot get it used  The only thing I bought used was my car and even that was taboo some 20 years ago.

Game prices were off putting, that's one of the reasons my cousins didn't want this, kid's already got an Xbox or something. And for me, I'll probably just get 5-6 games and that'd be it. Maybe not worth it for a console. But it's one that I can use on airplanes, airports etc. Big plus for me.

O actually you can get a modded switch ..... or its easy to mod. When you do that you can download any game for free.... its 100% illegal but that is the only + to that system I see. I heard you could easily mod the Xbox S series as well and it like the best emulation system out there.
