The pitch is horrible when it's not May and sunny. So building a new stadium where the pitch won't be a potato field is a must. So while I agree with Brehme, the stadium is still functional for what it is, this is a big thing that has been bothering me for years.

Just like with the logo, I'll have to move on from the old and embrace the new, no matter how it hurts to do that.

Milan technical director Paolo Maldini believes that the two Milanese clubs need to leave the San Siro in order to return to the top.

The two clubs are set to move to a new stadium, known as the Cathedral, which will be built by stadium experts Populous, leaving their historic San Siro home in the coming years.

Speaking in an interview with Sette, Maldini first discussed the increasingly likely move from the San Siro, saying “I believe and hope that it may be so. It makes an impression, I realise that. Me too. My father played there, I played there, my son plays there. It’s been my home. If we’re talking about memories, who more than me could feel hurt by such a momentous change?

“If we want Milan and Inter to return to the top levels of European football, writing such beautiful pages as those of the San Siro, we can only have a new stadium. There are no alternatives. This is not an opinion, it’s a certainty. I don’t want to erase a wonderful past. It’s just that I like to look ahead. It’s the idea of my life.”

Agronomist Giovanni Castelli On San Siro Pitch Condition: “They Play Too Much, This Is The Price”

“Aesthetically it is not the best, but it respects the UEFA parameters in terms of accident prevention and level of performance. This season the enormous frequency with which we play at the Meazza weighs heavily and the ground tries to react as best it can.”

“From Milan-Juve to the derby we have two weeks: one would be used to replace the pitch, one to sew it. Everything should work perfectly: it shouldn’t rain, freeze, snow.”

“San Siro has everything you need, all the most modern systems. But you play too much and this is the duty to pay, as happens, albeit in a different way, in Rome and Genoa.

“Usually the hybrid terrain gets along well all season, but with this overwork, any hybrid would give problems. The original sin is the Nations League which prevented us from using the October break to intervene. It can’t be the same in January.”

AC Milan and Inter have taken a big step forward in their stadium project as the creation of the financing vehicle has now occurred, a report claims.

Calcio e Finanza reports how plans continue to be made regarding the Nuovo Stadio Milano and one of the issues on the table also concerns the vehicle through which Inter and Milan will finance the project, considering that the entire operation will be carried out in project financing.

As explained several times by the leaders of the two clubs, the funding will be repaid through the increase in cash flows that will derive from the new stadium. According to the initial plans, the idea was that of a loan at a value of around 90% of the costs of the stadium, although the estimates will probably be revised considering the different volumes compared to what was initially expected by the clubs.

The vehicle to pay for the new stadium already exists and it is a newly-created company called MI Stadio, which is 50% owned by FC Internazionale Milano SpA and 50% by AC Milan SpA, which manages the activities of the stadium on behalf of the clubs. The MI Stadio will thus be reconstituted as a financing vehicle for the new stadium project.

Milan and Inter worried as stadium project stalls

Both Milan and Inter are said to be worried by the situation of the club’s stadium, with the project now stalling quickly.

Corriere della Sera claim that both clubs are reaching at the end of their patience and the possibility of the new stadium being built outside the city of Milan is gathering pace. There is still hope of reaching a conclusion in some way.

Relations between the two clubs and the municipality are at an all time low, but Milan and Inter have identified three potential areas for a new stadium and all three will be reachable by a subway nearby.

The three areas are Sesto San Giovanni, San Donato and Segrate and all three are linked by the train services in the city. Both Milan and Inter have decided to appoint a new consultant for the project and contacts have been made to take the process forward.

I think you can go back to page 1 of this thread and find that all of the stadium news has been the same 3 or 4 stories on repeat for the last decade plus. Inter and Milan to work together on new proposal, stadium project agreed, mayor/council of Milan oppose plan, Inter and Milan look at sites outside the city, rinse, repeat.

At this point there's higher probability the world ends via nuclear war than there is of a new stadium being built.

I think that was always a higher possibility.

Bahaha, just clocked this thread has been open since 2006.

Anyway, the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni (a suburb of Milan, but separate from the locality) has welcomed us to build the stadium there with open arms. Says it would also be quicker than doing it in Milan seeing as they’ve got the space.

I don’t know what the fuck we’re waiting for honestly. The Metro Line (M1) from Milan stops there, we could play at San Siro while the new one is built, and we could tell Sala and his fucking council to do one.

Only bright sides to this as far as I can see.

I seriously hope these two clubs start building their own stadium and stop this shared stadium nonsense idea.

GdS: New stadium project stalls again as Milan and Inter consider a different site

Just as it seems as though the new stadium project is on the right track, something comes along to disrupt the process and further delays are now envisaged.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the project for the new stadium at San Siro has stalled again and now Milan and Inter are looking around at potential new locations without as much red tape as they are currently encountering.

The bureaucracy is slowing things too much and while the two clubs have said they are willing to have the debate necessary by law, they are not willing to spend millions more on new feasibility studies without guarantees that it will go ahead.

The most likely area if they did decide to move away is the Sesto San Giovanni area where the Falck steel works stood but there is nothing to suggest there have been direct contacts between the clubs and the mayor of the area, but in the coming months the situation could change.

The Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri are willing to accept other compromises because they wish to remain in the historic San siro area, but they won’t wait much longer and will not agree to new expenses without knowing there will be something to show at the end.
