10 years of FIFI don't get why can't De Vrij mark Arnautovic and let Dimarco handle the possible runs to the box. Everyone should know which is the biggest threat, specially in cross situations.

Most Passionate MemberThat's the tactical setup. De Vrij has to be wary of the cross and Soriano entering the box. The cross reaching Arnautovic there had a low probability.
They should have switched there but unfortunately some people are sticklers for the rules and Arnautovic knew exactly what he was doing. Soriano would have run inside the box if De Vrij moved onto Arnautovic and it would have opened up an easier pass.
The problem is that we conceded from this, completely fell apart and it sums up the game.

10 years of FIFYes, I know that De Vrij is supposed to be the one who "controls" the defence and isn't marking the strikers in such situations, specially if they are leaning to some directions like Arnautovic did.
I just can't understand why following this is more important than reading the game. You have Arnautovic who's the biggest goal threat from Bologna and then you have Soriano who is 10 meters away. They should have done the switcheroo but De Vrij had no intent to do it. I remember watching that play evolve and noticed how De Vrij showed Dimarco to watch for Arnautovic and I remember thinking or maybe even shouting out loud that don't fucking do that, Dimarco cannot mark Arnautovic FFS! When Dimarco plays, they should decide the marking responsibilities differently, at least according to the opponent.
