Great but why the fuck did we sign gosens then. Gosens is way too good to sit on the bench.

I guess we will have lots of rotation next year.
Based on this season, Inzaghi isn't a big fan of rotation. Perisic started in 35 out of 37 matches available in Serie A, 6 out of 8 in Champions League and 5 out of 6 in Coppa. Very limited time for his backup. Inzaghi needs to find a way to fit both Perisic and Gosens in starting lineup and for me the way to go is 3-4-2-1 with Dybala and Perisic behind Lautaro.

If Perisic plays through the middle next season permanently it will bring me the same, extremely negative, feelings that Dzeko starting does.

It's one thing to want to play him out of position because of special circumstances, but a whole other to change it outright in preparation for a new season.

I loved him this season, but as JaneTheVirgin said, he has been mostly shit with his time here, he was as frustrating to me as fuckin Candreva and that's saying something. I don't know what is it with people and not just accepting to leave something at a high. He has been world-class this season, totally out of left field, and people are willing to re-sign him for more money? when he'll get older (and he's already fuckin old)? with Gosens here? That's crazy.

Thank you for a great season and for being a model professional.

Probably I am in minority, but I will let Perisic go. It doesn't make sense to have someone like Gosens on the bench, when we need upgrade in many other positions. Don't forget our financial situation.
We wanted for years to get rid of him. If he will start to perform worse, we have an albatross in our hands: an oldie with big salary. N9 and Vidal are vivid examples.
Better let him leave and with his salary off the books plus Vidal and Vecino, we have room to upgrade the midfiled: we need 2 other midfielders for depth.

If it's longer than 2 years, I'll worry especially at that salary. The Gosens dilemma can be resolved easily by: changing formation, moving Perisic to the right, or lastly as part of a trade. If giving Perisic the raise means sacrificing ex. Bastoni then its the wrong move. Who knows, maybe it's a cheeky move to sign and then trade him. So many unknowns and holes to fill and pruning to do this summer.

Moving Perisic to the right might be one option. The issue with that is we need to sign Perisic now while we can sell Dumfries only later. Wait for the offers and then hope we can negotiate high enough offer to make it even reasonable to sell him.

Perisic has grown to be such a leader and he's still playing at world class level so that we simply cannot let him walk. I'm ready to sell Dumfries and his leadership for keeping Perisic short-term. Worry about the right flank later when Perisic goes. He might not be as good there but he is ambidextrous with his feet.

I think Gosens was just a opportunity who we couldn't pass. And on paper it's still a pretty good deal to have as a back-up plan if Perisic might leave. Gosens didn't play for long due to a nasty injury which maybe took longer to heal than we might expected to be. Then Perisic started to play like a f*ckin boss and we are suddenly in a bad position.

Interesting to see if Gosens with the whole pre-season behind me can be a threat to Perisic(if he doesn't leave) or that he is just another system-player.

The would be one of the most exciting Inter line-ups I've ever watched. I would really love to see that.

It would also mitigate our shortage of high level midfielders, since Hakan would be benched.

Its exactly that. I don't know why people can't picture them rotating for one position and trying desperately to fit them to play at the same time, god knows we play more than enough games during the season.

Having one of them coming from the bench is much better than playing them at the same time with some weird ass solutions, like perisic on the right or some shit like that.

I think 5m+bonus for 2 years is fine. 3 years is too far for me.

I really think this could work. All depends on if Perisic is open to doing that, though.

This is some NBA kind of thing and is usually not working out well for teams when you are giving aging starter better salary just cause "you cannot let him walk".

Not saying it will not work for us but I'm not overly optimistic cause I'm not trusting him at all that he will be motivated after pay rise. This reported offer today should be our absolute max and we can only pray it's no longer than 2 years or we could have a big problem here soon.

The offer is more than good. If doesnt want that he can go. It would suck, but it is what it is. We should not be overpaying any player, especially 33 year olds, even if he had a great season.

It is 2-year offer, we've never offered him 3 years and won't. It's the 5m€ + bonuses, the offer I've talked for weeks which will make it happen.

If it miraculously doesn't make it happen, then so be it and he walks.

What I meant with "cannot let him walk" is that if we let him walk, we need to replace him. If we replace him with let's say Cambiaso/Parisi, that's a HUGE gap we're leaving behind. In addition to probably having to sell a big player. If we sell Dumfries, we might avoid having to sell big player.

Keeping Perisic, Gosens, Dumfries is questionable though but I trust that they will do what they think is for the best between the management and coaching staff.

It's not so simple. We have limited resourses and we need to fill a few positions this summer. Yes, Gosens was an opportunity and we didn't expect Perisic to be so good. But if we made a decision, stick with it.

We are not PSG or City. We need to make the most with our limited resources. Having 2 quality LB and no cover for your midfield (we cannot just exausted those 3 like workhorses), it's like buying 2 Loro Piana expensive cardigans but wearing a pair of old, 1 dollarstore shoes. It doesn't make sense.
The 2 reasonable solutions would be that 3-4-2-1 with Perisic along Dybala (?) behind Lautaro or playing Perisic on the right (he palyed on the right in Dortmund and Wolfsburg).
Ironically, 2 of the deepest teams in Europe, City and Liverpool, don't have this problem. Liverpool have only Tsimikas for the left, for whom they paid peanuts. Joe Gomez cover both the CB and RB. And Guardiola just played Cancelo on the left, because makes no sense to keep him on the bench. The WB/side back position is usaully the least rotated in football.

It depends on whether Inzaghi can learn to rotate. Playing with 3-4-2-1 would give us the best of both worlds.

-------------------------Lautaro-------------------------
---------Perisic--------------------------Dybala---------
Gosens------Brozovic------Barella/Calha-----Dumfries
---------Bastoni---------De Vrij--------Skriniar---------

------------------------- Dzeko --------------------------
--------------Correa------------Perisic/Dybala ---------
Dimarco/Perisic------Calha/Brozo-----Gags----Darmian
---------Dimarco-------- ??? --------D'ambrosio-------

Basically you keep a core team of 18 players. You have some serious quality in midfield with Brozo-Calha-Barella constantly fresh. And your front 3 have a decent backup in Correa and Dzeko.

It's pointless to have 22 quality players. We'll be much better off wish a smaller core team but a formation that allows everyone to take a rest every 3 matches or so. Remember that's how we won the treble in 2010 too.

You need another LWB reserve if you do this.

Thats exactly my point, you just create more problems once you exhaust both perisic and gosens as first team options. This team, at least until now, was pretty fuckin solid when it comes to first team squad, what we desperately lack is actual depth.

Inject this into my fucking veins. This also helps our awful midfield depth. Correa could easily slot into that formation as well as an impact sub. I don't think inzaghi will start games like this but damn as an attacking lineup😍

When we talk about depth we talk about having players who occasionally replace our starting players in the team so they don't get exhausted, and we could have options on the bench when our starting 11 are unavailable or underperforming. Gosens is not one to fill this task, he's a starting material.

He should play regularly, not ocassionally. They don't take being a sub very lightly and might ask to get sold if they don't play regularly. Perisic staying could become a problem if that means Gosens is gonna act as a sub to him.

I don't think that 3-4-2-1 would work at all. Perisic is still more of a flank player so we would have three left flank players there with Bastoni, Gosens and Perisic. They would be on each other's way too much I fear.
