Gosens cost 28m iirc

Skriniar sale wouldn't had enabled a Bremer purchase, sorry. Skriniar sale would have enabled a Milenkovic purchase. Skriniar wouldn't leave on the first day he was under bid, you keep ignoring that the player didn't want out and he'd stick around till August to get a new Inter deal which he was promised.

Marotta managed to lose Bremer and his 20m asking price because he wanted to negotiate lower to 15m and when they asked for 30-35m he only moved up to 25m. Yeap, that's Marotta. Bremer would have been gone by the time we would have sold Skriniar, because not only Skriniar would have taken weeks to be sold, Marotta would have delayed the Bremer deal as much as possible, which would still have invited Juventus to poach him and offer more than we could.

Marotta saying no one will leave Inter without his will and then trying to sell Bastoni, Skriniar and even Barella (to Liverpool and Real Madrid) despite telling them they weren't for sale is a bullshit move. And you know it. We all know it. It's time to admit it.
Telling them they'll get a new contract and not sitting with them within a month to discuss but leaving it for 3-6-9 months in the future is a bullshit move. And we all know it.

Zhang did the right thing with Skriniar. But Marotta failed to manage the situation and keep the player because of how he treated him.
I worry that this could happen with Bastoni too but at least Italians are less likely to leave top Italian clubs.

One thing however and I think it's unis main gripe with marotta, we need to sign more youth rather than sticky plasters (which have done well). If we are truly a selling club now which let's face it, we are, we need to buy younger and smarter. That I agree on.

Taking this perhaps a bit out of context of the entire discussion you guys are having, but we are not a selling club until we start actually selling players and on a regular basis and make profit of it. That's the part I have issues with.

Zhang did the right thing with Skriniar.

No, he didn't. There was no guarantee Skriniar would extend. When you have reached the point where the player has just one year left in his contract it can go either way. 50m was still a good deal for a cb with one year left in his contract. But Zhang didn't want a good deal. He wanted PSG to massively overpay. He thought he could have a repeat of Chelsea with Lukaku. Well it backfired.

Lukaku was a terrible transfer, don't care how many supported it.
We signed back a player who has been destroying the league for two seasons and he doesn't perform as expected. It's Marotta's fault? Not Inzaghi's?

We don't do it in a traditional way (start contract negotiations early, reinvest money from sales in youngsters with low salaries, focus on youth development) but we have become a selling club. We sold Hakimi and Lukaku in 2021. We would have sold Skriniar if Zhang hadn't blocked it last summer. We're going to have at least one big sale next summer. Only selling clubs sell starters every summer.

That's not incorrect, but Zhang pretty much wanted the management to come up with 60m in capital gains. For the 2022-23 season.

We had put De Vrij, Dumfries and a few other players on the transfer block. Marotta wanted the easy way out, to sell Bastoni, Skriniar or even Barella (who was allegedly untouchable). Ausilio was ready to push plusvalenza moves and shop Dumfries and De Vrij around, only to be stopped by Marotta.

Inzaghi said he doesn't want to lose Barella, Lautaro, Brozovic and Skriniar. With Bastoni being the next in line but he was only willing to sacrifice under conditions. He was the one who eventually blocked us pushing that sale, after Bastoni of course rejected to move to fucking Tottenham.

The concept was that Marotta was in charge of buying players and Ausilio for selling the players Marotta decided to sell. Ausilio tried to get offers for Hakan and Dumfries as well, but Marotta was adamant on selling Skriniar for 60m. Then accepted 50+5...

Skriniar didn't want out and didn't have extravagant demands. That came after Marotta meddled with the affair. You can argue that Zhang didn't allow us to renew the Skriniar contract before the end of the season but I'm not sure if that's a valid and accurate statement. He was the one who held off the Brozovic renewal for several months as he told everyone to halt negotiations from late January to late March, but we had from April till June to extend Skriniar and we didn't even entertain the idea.

Selling Skriniar for 50m when the alternative is to lose him for free sounds prudent, but at the time the alternative was to extend him for 5.5m net. Losing him for free wasn't an option at the time, there was no will from the player to leave until Marotta was publicly saying that no one leaves without their will, told Skriniar in private that he's not for sale, that contract talks would start soon, yet what happened was Marotta shopped him once again (was like the 6th time since Marotta arrived?) without informing him or his agent and suddenly he gets calls from teams that they agreed with Inter. Only to then see that Inter hadn't really agreed shit because Zhang hadn't approved that.

That's a fuck up of epic proportions...

You alienate one of your most loyal players.
You manage to get into a disagreement with the owners.
You manage to lose a player for free out of nowhere.

This isn't like Perisic who had decided to leave at the end of the season and there were 1-2 things that could have swayed his mind. Skriniar had zero intentions of leaving. We fucked this up completely. And we're publicly saying that Skriniar wanted out and that we cannot afford him. No shit Sherlock, you caused it...

Skriniar was a fuckup but without the owner interfering thinking he's the next Moratti, we would have sold Skriniar. Now we got one extra season of Skriniar effectively paying 50m€ for it.

Skriniar sold for 50m€ wasn't and wouldn't have been the best thing but definitely the next best thing after keeping him. We ended up with the worst scenario because of our owner.

Your bias against Marotta is simply astonishing. You are seeing only the bad parts, emphasizing them and mostly ignoring any good things he has achieved at Inter.

It wasn't about thinking he's the next Moratti. It was about thinking he's the only smart one in the business and the owners of the other clubs are the village idiots who will just pay whatever Suning are asking. He was expecting PSG to increase the offer and satisfy his demands. Well they didn't.

It's a similar case with the price they have set for the club. They don't want just to get a good deal. They want others to pay way above fair value.

Yes but again if skriniar assured him he ll re-sign holding out for a better bid is not that dumb especially if your dealing with PSG.

My angle with the Moratti comparison was that he was intefering the sporting operation where he should have no business interfering at all. Actually it wasn't even too good comparison because I feel Moratti wasn't stupid regarding football but just too passionate. Zhang is surely not smart enough and doesn't seem to get the business side of football world too much (with the renewals among other things).

(with the renewals among other things).

The way we deal with renewals is a huge problem we need to sort out. They need to realise the longer you wait to start talks for an extension the higher the salary you're eventually going to commit to when new contract is eventually signed. They don't want to pay a rise until it's absolutely necessary but they end up paying a lot more even if the player chooses to stay (Brozovic). .Post 2021 the only extensions we dealt with on the right time were about Barella and Dimarco. They had contracts till 2024 but we started talks about an extension in October/November 2021, more than 2 years before the end of the contracts. We agreed terms pretty fast and tied them to the club till 2026. Now everyone knows that if he wants to sign either of them he needs to spend big because they have many years left in their contracts. Hakimi and Lukaku were good deals because they had many years left in their contracts. No one could lowball you with the threat of getting the player on a free.

There's an improvement with talks for Bastoni now but we're still late. If we don't find an agreement he will only have only one year left in his contract. The time to sell a player is two years before the end of his contract. If you wait for one more year then you will either be forced to sell at a discount or keep the player with the risk of losing him on a free.

Dimarco is a prime example that timing is imperative when it comes to contract extensions. We started talks early and tied him till 2026 at 1.6m net. At the time some argued we gave too much but now it looks like a genius move. Dimarco changed his agent because he probably thinks he undersold himself in those talks and now he's stuck with a salary that doesn't represent his value. If we started talks now Dimarco demands would have been much higher.

I'm talking about June 2022 and you've fast forwarded to January 2023. Nothing took place in between?

He didn't assure him of shit. He was waiting for 4 months for something that was going to happen the following week, and he was forcibly put on the market for 2 months during this period....

They said they'll offer a new contract during the 2022 summer window. The 2023 January window is now closed and we've barely heard about the talks commencing...

Good. At least they started after 7 months of saying they'll start. Let's see how they end...

There is still one thing that I want to know. When Steven’s big money bid for Skriniar didn’t arrive, and in between Marotta doing his double dealing, why wasn‘t a proper discussion had that Skriniar could leave for free?

Why didn’t Marotta say to Steven we are running out of time! We should either offer a renewal before the summer window closes or sell him for the highest offer?

The answer is we don’t know, both sides put its own agenda, some scenarios could be

- Inter promised him an amount if he stays and after summer window, it delayed then delayed then not that what he expected, agent contracted PSG and done.

- He promised he stays but with his demanding, Inter couldn’t match that, things moved on.

- He’d already agreed with PSG for long time, refused but didn’t say it to the board. Hence meeting kept delayed and dragged on.

Anyway, Marotta hasn’t done good job lately and I think Steve doesn’t have big say to him. Steve seems not to have that authority sense and if he blocks Marotta many times, Marotta would quit already.

Quite contrary, it's reported it was Zhang blocking the Skriniar sale in the summer when the money wasn't enough for him.

Steve is clueless and will do as advised. I bet it was our directors advising him that we should get more for Skriniar [which is true].
The mistake was not extending Skriniar`s contract in summer transfer market window of 2022.

MAROTTA TRUSTS LUKAKU WILL MAKE INTER IMPACT EVENTUALLY

Inter director Beppe Marotta is confident Romelu Lukaku will make his mark this season
, even if he doesn’t start the Champions League against FC Porto.
“I think the teams involved in this round have a certain European pedigree. If we look at the recent past, Porto eliminated several Italian sides and we hope the same doesn’t happen to us,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia and Amazon Prime Italia.
“The team is prepared, motivated and you can hear the atmosphere in the stadium with this crowd.”

Lukaku is on the bench this evening, with Edin Dzeko preferred as the partner to Lautaro Martinez, so are Inter running out of patience with the striker on loan from Chelsea?
“I have to say he has 103kg to carry around, so he needs to be in perfect physical shape to deliver and he is not there yet. He’s getting there and the coach is the best person to evaluate how he is doing and how he should be used.
“Games tend to last almost 100 minutes nowadays, so the players who come off the bench can be just as important as what I like to call their co-starters.
“Unfortunately, another problem with this anomalous season is the World Cup, which was midway through the first half of the campaign. I can see that participation in the World Cup affected many players, some feel it more than others, and Lukaku had an injury that meant he was reduced to practically a cameo at that tournament.
“He is a great professional, he has so far been unfortunately unable to deliver what he wanted to, but we have faith there is time for him to make an impact for the rest of the season.”

It is not just Lukaku’s future that is in doubt, as others too are considering their contract renewals after Milan Skriniar opted to walk away in the summer.
“Everyone deserves to renew their contracts, but this is not about the heart this time, we have to be rational. We will do it very calmly over the next few months.”

Inter have done perhaps better in knockout tournaments over the last couple of years than in Serie A, where they tend to drop points against minnows.
“I think it’s because they have the right approach, as these fixtures give you extra adrenaline boosts. That is our limitation and something we are working on, the need to be more consistent in our performances and approaches in Italy and in Europe.”

Simone Inzaghi and Andre Onana have both said that Inter can win the Champions League, just as Jose Mourinho did in 2010 to complete the Treble.
“That year will remain in the history of this club and it is not easy to repeat, but we are obliged to go as far as possible and will give our all to achieve that,” responded Marotta.
Sounds like Lukaku loan might be extended anyway :awyeah:
