I didn't say Dzeko didn't have a great career. My point was precisely regarding CR's situation. He should have remained in Europe. Despite his decling, he was still able to bang in goals and be useful in a top club, but he made his choice, so it's case closed.

CR is too costly for most clubs compared to his numbers. Going elsewhere just made sense for all.

Thanx for some nice goals, but there is no way a serious team is spending 5M on him... he was one of the best Milan players in the second half giving them 2 clear counters.

Decent first half, couldn't breathe in the second.

Should be more fit in the final but opponent should decide if he starts or not. Far more useful without the ball than Lukaku, so vs Real he'd be better, and too slow for counters if we end up playing vs City who will be dominating possession.

Has he ever been in a cl final? I think he'll start and score. Dude knows it's the game of his life. Against a former team perhaps...

No matter what happens, I'm happy for him....but I wouldn't offer an extension. Especially if Firmino is availlable.

I don't get it, yes he is classy, he scored a great goal, he also missed 100% chance, a lot of counter attacks were ruined because of him.
What he has that Lukaku doesn't?
Sometimes I see that he has wonderful thing in his mind but he is unable to do it because of his physical condition.
You can see he is trying to do a really great passes, crosses but he simply can't.

Rudiger is Marking Haaland and Emagine him vs Dzeko.

The club wants to keep him cause of his goals in the CL, like vs Victoria Plzen this year and last year vs the likes of Sheriff, Shakhtar etc plus he scored the opener vs Milan first leg, without that goal you never know how the game goes.

He earned the club some money and if he can do it for another year he'll stay

Would not mind him staying another season as long as he s 3rd choice and prefferably a small wage cut...
Even though he clearly cant go 90 mins every week any more overall his two seasons here he played a lot better than i expected tbh...
Plus if properly rotated he does not look like a dead man out there after 30 mins in the later part of the season

I love the dude but even he has to understand that we really need his wages to pay the incoming players (because WE NEED more players after this summer)

If he's the 4th or 5th choice, considering how old he is, that would be okay, but I'm afraid we'll miss a good opportunity because we'll have to pay for him.

maybe we can make one. Honestly bring the 3 youth guys back and they can have his wages. Hopefully one develops and we either resell him or have a top striker.

I rather have us bring all our strikers back from loan and let Dzeko/Correa go and save on the wages. Dzeko is just too fking old and wants way too much money for a team that is basically bankrupt.

Yeah it doesn't go like that. Lautaro, Correa and 3 youngsters/homegrown players would be a disaster.

If we can get Firmino for free, he is the logical next step for us for the post Džeko era. Firmino could play with both Lautaro or Lukaku (if he stays) or even Correa. He is really good at creating chaos and chances, also really good at heading the ball.

Obviously I would rather have the Lesbian from Roma here, but that train has already left the station. Firmino would be good enough for a 3 year contract. He is 31 and compared to some other brazilians is in better shape

The problem is we also need to cut costs even further as Antonello stated. Bastoni and Calha just got pay raises in their new contracts (Basto's one is significant). De Vrij is expected to sign a contract extension with more or less the same salary (big mistake imo). Skriniar replacement is unlikely to earn much less than Skri current salary. If we also extend with Dzeko with more or less the same salary as expected then how exactly are we going to cut costs? Gagliardini, D'Ambrosio and Handa exits aren't going to aid much as they have low salaries and they also need to be replaced. Would you rather lose a starter (e.g. Brozovic) in order to keep Dzeko as a bench option?

In our financial situation we need to make compromises. I'd rather lose quality on the bench than in the starting lineup.

We can be smart and lower salaries but add depth and quality to the squad. But what we read from the rumors and the management do not sound very encouraging.

Unfortunately, his asking price is too much, so is another Lukaku's loan deal. As mentioned above the expired contracts savings are barely a dent in solving the financial situation. Who is going to buy Correa or Sensi (who is due back) much less go on a loan. It's going to be a painfully unpleasant summer transfer again IMHO.

I would go max 1 more year at 4mil. Only to tie us over until we can (hopefully) assimilate some new attacking options that aren’t Correa. Giving him more than 3mil is probably a mistake but still makes more sense than renewing De Vrij imo.
