legend for one team, no. but legend to the game - easy yes.

Easily one of the best strikers to have ever played the game, and i mean ever.

Ive seen him do things ill probably never see again, take your blind blackandblue eyes off for jsut one minute and youll actually see we may have lost some mercenary, but probably the most talented one at that.

You beat me to it Jesus.

As much as I hate him, it was really sad to see and hear what happened to him. It's always sad to see a legend potentially ending his career like this, in agony and tears.

And I agree that he is one of the best strikers to ever play the game. When you are only 31 and spent one-fourth of your career injured and you are still highly regarded, then you must be one hell of a striker.

And agreed on him doing stuff on the pitch that I have never seen before or after, soccer will definitely lose him.

He can be more talented that Maradona for all I care but football is not about talent only; it's about passion & loyalty too. Obelix clearly does not have them and I can only be happy at how this whole thing turns out!

There's still a better scenario out of this though: Milan putting their faith in him, extending his contract, Ronnie come back to put score 7 goals in the last 5 08/09 Serie A matches and then demanding a transfer alleging frosty relationship with coach Ancelotti as the reason.

When you're stabbed in the back, it's hard to keep an eye on a player. It was fatass who put the blind band on our eyes, and I don't see any reason why we should now loose it, just because he got what he deserved.

I agree he was a good player, probably one of the best strikers in the history, but that is as far as I go.

Calcio Debate: How Will Ronaldo Be Remembered?

Following the heartbreaking injury of Ronaldo last night, it looks increasingly likely that we have now witnessed the end of one of the greatest players of all time. Carlo Garganese asks how El Fenomeno should be remembered…

The way Goal.com has been flooded with messages of support for Ronaldo following the news that he had ruptured the tendon in his left knee, and could well have played his last game, is second only to the death of Antonio Puerta last year.

The kind-hearted posts and the sheer number of comments illustrate, putting Goal.com aside, why Ronaldo will go down as one of the legends of the game.

Of course it is never nice to write off a player, especially a champion of the people such as Ronnie, and I more than anyone would love to see the great man return to grace Serie A and Champions League playing fields once again.

However all logic points to the likelihood that this will not happen. The truth is that the 31-year-old’s body is just too unstable and really everyone knows, despite the fact that Milan say they will stand by him, that this is the end.

So how will Ronaldo be remembered?

Well I don’t want to sit here and bore you with things that are already known, such as goal statistics, awards won and records held.

The truth is that Ronaldo will go down as one of, if not the best, forward of all time. He is up there with the likes of Eusebio, Marco van Basten, Roberto Baggio and is certainly not out of place when mentioned in the same breath as Pele, or even Maradona.

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, he perhaps lost his opportunity to prove that he was the greatest due to the series of horrific injuries he sustained during his career.

He lost the best part of three years in between 1999 and 2002 due to two ruptured tendons in his right knee, the same injury he picked up last night, only in the other leg.

Since 2002 he has been continually hounded by fitness and weight problems, and niggles, and one only has to look at the number of times he has featured for Milan since signing for them 13 months ago to realise how this has interfered with his football.

In total Ronaldo has probably lost half of his career to injuries, yet despite this he has still always been recognised as world class. In 2002, as mentioned above he had not played for the best part of three years, yet he still managed to finish that year’s World Cup as top-scorer and lead Brazil to glory with both goals in the final.

Without these serious injuries, one can only imagine how good Ronaldo could have been.

In his prime, in the years 1996-99, probably only Maradona could boast that explosive ability to take on players and win a match individually by himself.

Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro has made many world-class strikers look like Sunday League pub players over the years, however even he admitted that when he played against Ronaldo at his peak, he could only pray.”

As well as the football side of things, Ronaldo will also be remembered as a genuinely nice and humble person.

El Fenomeno received huge criticism for playing for two sets of rivals (Barcelona & Real Madrid and Inter & Milan) yet he kept a dignified silence, even when provoked over weight, fitness and motivational issues.
Having been the best in the world for so long, and won almost everything, he hardly shows off either, particularly if you compare it to those who have done little and make big claims these days.
Rarely has football seen such a grandiose person.

Is this the end of Ronaldo’s career? How do you believe that he will be remembered? Please leave your tributes and share your best memories of El Fenomeno.

Carlo Garagnese

If Fatboy is a humble person then I am the pope.

Yep.. The best player ever if you ask me.. I have never seen a player being such a dominant in the game.. doing things with a ball with such an ease...

And of course, subjectively speaking, if he is a legend of any club, it should be Inter.. :)

His goal scoring form for Madrid was really good, dont know why Madrid fans hated him so much. He only won a single laliga with Madrid, but he was the only Galactico who actually was working for Madrid in their Galacticos era. Madrid fans would be really dumb not to consider him their legend.

For Inter, he is a bas*tard and a traitor, and there is no way this thread should move to the legends one.
I am sorry football may have lost the best striker of the past generation, but he didnt deserve better.

I think the best news for me, is that he wont be able to help Milan. As much as we like to deny it, this guy still had talent, and could still do wonders. He would have been the reason for Milan to be successful in the second part of this season, and now he cant.

When Inter store gave us the opportunity to order shirts with legends of club's names on them a few weeks ago his name wasn't their while the likes of Ince were among the choices. The pretty sums up how the club feels about him.

He is no legend to Interisti.

I can't believe there are still people who want this guy to be named a legend to Inter or something.

Did you wake up yesterday? I mean what the hell?

Are you an interisti or not?!

Hell NO!

Its the moral responsibility of us Inter fans of this generation to make sure that never happens. We have to spread the word to the next generations of what kind of a bastard he was.

Couldn't agree more.

The inter fans that still like Ronaldo, are usually the ones who were too young that time he left us, to comprehend what a stab in the back was his move to Madrid, for inter fans, or the ones who became the inter fans after that incident.

I don't know anybody who was a passionate inter fan back than, who would not dispise fatass.
