Considering he won several league titles as a manager with Liverpool, then took Blackburn from the second division to EPL winners in just 4 years, I would still consider him a great manager.

Have you seen the EPL table lately? :p

Really, guy is a legend as a player, always will be but as a manager not so much. Good to see the owners have got some balls though. Wonder who will be next (please not the return of Rafa).

Yes I know.

So I think Rafa won't return ;)

Not this time around, should have clarified. idk, past doesn't really matter when you're floating around mid-table with your city rivals ahead of you and unable to win at home.

Since when does 3 = several?

You are talking about achievements from close to 20 years ago. It seems old Kenny has lost his touch. After his first 6 months at Newcastle, it has all been downhill.

This is who I thought they would have gone after last summer instead of keeping Kenny.

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez appears to have no intention of apologising to Sir Alex Ferguson after holding a banner mocking the Manchester United manager.

Tevez displayed a sign bearing the words 'RIP Fergie' during the open-top bus parade through Manchester to celebrate City's Barclays Premier League title win on Monday.

Back in his native Argentina, Tevez told www.ole.com.ar: "It seems like Ferguson is the president of England. Every time he speaks badly about a player or says terrible things about me, nobody says that he has to apologise. [But] when someone comes out with a joke or banter, you have to say sorry - but I don't say sorry."

I think that AVB really may be the next Liverpool coach, other options out there are Capello, Benitez (would be bad though since they already had him before and teams should move forward) and maybe Hiddink.

Any thoughts on your main manager being out Visca? Or YNWA? I'd like to hear from the pool fans on here
I'm starting to think FSG are under the illusion that running LFC is like running a American sporting frachise.
The former Stewards Gillete & Hicks thought that way and it cost them big time.
John Henry & co had best have a good plan B in place because at this moment in time they are on thin ice.

Personally i think FSG seem to to be smart enough to not make kneejerk decisions without having a plan B but that
John Henry has one hell of poker face and he's very act hard to read.
However with your extensive knowledge of sport on your side of the pond, i'm sure you will know more about John Henry than me.
So really i'd like to ask you, any thoughts on FSG ? .

I'm gonna bust ur balls here Vito: technically several = +2 :p. Doesn't he have a total of 4 league titles (as a manager btw Pool & Blackburn) I still think he is a good manager, but I wonder who the heck was choosing the players he bought! Then there is the question of the Suarez situation which I personally think he handled badly... Any who, my bet is on Martinez taking the job. I actually hope he does, let's see how he does with a club that is not just content with staying up but wants titles.

Exactly

sev·er·al
 adjective
1. being more than two but fewer than many in number or kind: several ways of doing it.

And he has only been in change of two teams since leaving Newcastle - Celtic and Liverpool. Was only a caretaker at Celtic for 3-4 months, and in that time won the Scottish cup, so I dont see how that can be deemed a failure. At Liverpool, ok he's had 1 and a half bad seasons in the league, but like YNWA said,

Still at least we actually won something and went to Wembley 3 times.

So basically what your saying is after a total of 2 and a half poor seasons he has lost his touch and isnt a good manager?

You don't need to pull out the definition Calzo. I typically say a few for 3 and anything more than that would be several. Saying several just sounds like it means more than 3 to me.

So basically what your saying is because he had good seasons 20 years ago, he is still a good manager today? I did not say he was a bad manager, I just said that it seems to have lost his touch considering he has not been hugely successful in close to 20 years. His last 2.5 seasons have been a disappointment, so unless he turns that around, I think it is very fair to say that he has lost his touch.

By the way, he won the Scottish LEAGUE Cup, not the Scottish Cup. And he did that by beating 9th place Kilmarnock 1-0 in the semis and then 10th place Aberdeen 2-0 in the finals. Please don't make it out to be some great feat lol

If FSG are thinking the same way as you then the Club are in trouble. Past is prelude.
We beat our City rivals 3 times this season including the FA cup Semi final.
We beat the CL finalist 3 times this season and only lost the FA Cup Final by what could literally be described as a "Cock hair".
and they beat Barca twice. LFC>>>FCB :) :)
We knocked the defending champions of the Prem League out of the FA Cup and the current Champions out of the League Cup.
We also hit the f*cking woodwork 33 times in the league and missed about 5 penalties.

So if this is the hallmark of someone who has "Lost his touch" (like Vito says) then what does that say about the 99% of todays football managers.???

Your presuming that the Kilmarnock and Aberdeen players look at the SLCup the same way you do. ie worthless
I'm guessing a lot of their players would of been playing the game of their lives and trying their upmost to beat Celtic
and win what is to them the same as a CL final for Inter.
In Scotland you fight for every inch.

I understand the League Cup is a big deal for the smaller teams, but they were the 2 worst teams in Scotland that year. That is why I said it was no big deal that they were able to win it. They won a combined 17 matches out of 72 lol.

Yes that league form doesnt look too impressive does it :)
So i think we can safely assume they wasnt concentrating on the League that season and they was probably concentrating on the Cup's. ;)
Which is essentially their only chance of winning any Silverware.
