When people ask me what are the best players of all time in certain positions, I usually have to think for a while before I'm certain. Not so much when it comes to midfield. I know it comes to preferences when you are dealing with those types of picks but imo he is the best mid of all time, I rate him above xavi, zidane etc... he really is that good.
And the fact he reached the world cup final with croatia is in my book equal to zidane winning it with france or xavi with spain.
