Given the circumstances, nothing to complain about. We had a bunch of players playing defensive counter-attacking football. We relied on the speed of Lukaku and Hakimi to score a lot of goals. We lost that and the question was how we were gonna score goals.
Inzaghi's style of football solved the issue most of the time. Impressive how we maintained defensive shape while doing so.

There are games in the season when the tactic is not working. Injuries, national breaks or something that breaks the rhythm. In these games, vulnerabilities are more visible. You need some form of individual brilliance to break the curse. We had none. The same problem that Conte would face if he remained.

I personally do not know, how this team can be any better without fixing issues first:
1, Strikers - Lautaro need a proper partner in the attack
2, Midfield depth - we have 3 midfielders for 3 spots in midfield. Anytime we make a substitution, quality drops significantly

Is it even possible to improve this team without finances?

Don't have one.
He is a victim of his own success. If we had spent the whole season stuck in third place, paradoxically, nobody would have complained, but by overperforming in November and December everyone was deluded that we could have won again easily. Personally I remember how low my expectations were before the season started and so I say he's done great work. If only we had real owners I'd be cautiously optimistic for the future.
Nah, truth is probably somewhere in between, and extremes like inzaghi is shit, or he pulled us out of shit, victim of his own success etc..., are gross exaggerations.

Of course I don't mean to say he's blameless in our losing the Scudetto (he is particularly culpable for our dire form in February and March), but he's not the main culprit and I think those calling for his head or saying he has a loser mentality are way off the mark.

Extremely well said.

Targets set before the season was top4 and CL knockouts. I don't know if there was Coppa Italia victory or just trophy added. But he delivered all these if it wasn't Coppa but just trophy (and he can deliver that second trophy tomorrow).

The first part of the season was maybe overperformance, specially Dzeko was on fire and we played generally really well. Feb-March schedule just killed us with the heartbreaking derby loss there too. We can as well think we just returned to the mean there in this second part of the season.

Only caveat is Pioli is the one stealing the Scudetto with a lot worse squad. So he did better job. But we need to remember, if some other coach does a brilliant job, it doesn't mean Inter coach hasn't done a good job. Both things can be true at the same time.

I would say Pioli has a worse first team, but not a worse squad. At least they had viable options on the bench that are athletic, and not out of form Vecino, Schrodingers Sensi, lumbering Gags, waste of money Correa, good but makes mistakes Sanchez and old man trying to be cool Vidal. That Vidal is the best performer from this list is comically bad.

Apart from our defensive options from the bench, most of our bench options weren't really reliable, while Milan pull through even with all the injuries. That's good planning and good work by Pioli as well. And luck, ofc. Every title winning team has a bit of luck on their side.

Well, anyway, anything could still happen, I remember quite well that we almost gave the 2010 Scudetto to Roma and they fucked it up and dropped points as well and we won.

We are the Roma of this year. We fucked it up against Bologna. When you mess up so late in the season, you can rarely make up for it.

I'm not sure if I remember Dzeko every playing well. However, he has somehow deteriorated from "washed up footballer" to "belongs in a nursing home" in the span of three months.

Dzeko was maybe our best player, at least top3 in the first part of the season. But as we all feared, at least I feared, that Inzaghi over-uses him and that SEEMS to be the case. We don't know if that is the case but surely it is a factor in Dzeko's drastic drop on form in the second half.

Dzeko was good in the first 10 matches of the season. But once consistent playing time started to affect him, he was poor even in the games he had scored.

Like i have said, i don't blame Dzeko but instead i blame Inzaghi for the way he managed him. Having Dzeko as your forward with the most minutes on the pitch, and by a big margin, is madness.

Yes and no. Indeed we were overperforming. In the summer I was glad if we reached top 4 and got through the group stages of CL. But by performing so good and seeing the other clubs lose a lot of points you get optimistic. But if you gone so far this season and reached the stage were we where a couple of points ahead it would truly be a bummer if we lose tonight and finish second.

If you reach a certain stage in the competition like we did I personally would be very disappointing if we lose everything in the last weeks. If you think rationally you are completely right and he performed good enough maybe even overperforming. BUT if we lose tonight and don't win the Serie A, after the position we were in it's bad. Not bad in the way Inzaghi should be sacked or we lose confidence in him but still... It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth if we don't win any prices beside the SuperCoppa.

First time we beat the gobbi 3 times in a row. Ever! First Inter manager to achieve it as well.

Beat them in two finals in the same season.

Ended their multi year streak of winning at least a title every season.

Beat them at the rat cave.

Grazie Mister!

And at the same time being called cunt, loser and all kind of names by the fans here. Pathetic!

Well done Simone. He did a pretty good job this season and I hope the club back him up by giving him a better team for the next season.
