players like him really would have been amazing legends of the game 30-40 years ago, but with the increasing professionalisation in the last twenty or so years.... you just have to wonder what they could have been

Tireless workers like Lampard and Zanetti deserve to be called legends, but only a select few can be Ronaldinho's (not really training, being party animals) and still be called legends of the game. Nainggolan fucked his own career and he can only blame himself (which he is probably not doing)

Dude earned his money. He'll be remembered as a Roma legend and guess he's fine with it.

Why do you always lump Zanetti with such eyesore kind of players like Lampard or Milner?

Zanetti is actually one of the greatest dribblers of his generation and that's not an exaggeration. It's also not an exaggeration to say that prime Zanetti would have been a top 5 dribbler in this era of generic, robotic football.

I know you're talking about the level of professionalism here, but it seems like a poor example. Especially since Lampard was called Fat Frank for the first 5 years of his career because he wasn't anywhere near the professional he became later on. (And everyone assumed he got a chance because his uncle slotted him in the first team)

fat or not, Lampard still played 648 games at Chelsea at a time they were at a very high level. Didnt he have one of the longest playing streaks of any footballer? Looking at 01-06, he basically missed 4 games total in the league in 5 seasons. Dont think Zanetti managed anything at quite that level - 06 to 11 is as close as he got.

Lampard was great, never had the talent of some other midfielders but he worked twice as hard as many others. This is what overachieving his own potential looks like.
Yeah he was known as Fat Frank, but he worked on it. Nainggolan will forever be known as a drunk that never came close to what was expected of him.

And that's where you should have ended with it. Why is Zanetti there?

Going back to Nainggolan, he posted this on ig.

"I just want to say here that I am also very sorry for what I have done… I declare this completely wrong myself… but had just not thought about it at the time… the club has made a decision that I I can only accept, even though I may find it a bit too heavy myself, but I'm going to try to continue to contribute in one way or another"

You'd think he'd be less dumb the older you get.

Because he was a hard worker as well. Pretty sure Zanetti is a beautiful example of a player Nainggolan should've look up to.

Naingollan was too arrogant to think that he could ever learn anything from the likes of Zanetti.

And that is why today, the fans still love and sing for Zanetti and see him as the symbol of our club a decade after his retirement and why Naingollan behaves like a washed up moron.

Not to excuse his behavior, but I kind of feel sorry for him after I read that his father abandoned him when he was a child. That trauma experienced at a young age probably still has effects on his mental health. Plus the fact that his wife recently had cancer (which I don't even know the outcome of). Sure, you can say he's a millionaire and money can solve all his problems, but he probably still has some mental health issues which are no joke. It's only his responsibility to solve them though and his solution is still to behave like an angsty teenager.

all of this is understandable, but I can also say without reservation that I know more people with problems like that (and with drug/alcohol coping) than people that never had trauma like that in life

but compared to these people he is paid big money to be a professional, which to a certain degree he was throughout his career, but he never wanted to come to Inter and then he just let his ways get the better of him

if he was more professional, he'd be paid even more, but that isn't important here

he can do whatever he wants, I'm just annoyed that he had to be such a bum at Inter

@YoramG i know you want me to keep you informed about Nainggolan news

Belgian side Royal Antwerp have made a decision to permanently exclude ex-Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan from its first team.

A few weeks ago, the 34 year-old was spotted smoking an e-cigarette on the bench ahead of the team’s 3-0 defeat to Standard Liege and was subsequently suspended indefinitely by the club.

Earlier tonight, Antwerp released a statement claiming they have agreed – together with the player – to part ways in the upcoming international break.

The Belgian club will start looking for a transfer in the January window: “The club will cooperate with a possible transfer. RAFC will not communicate further about this.”

And they're third, which is one position lower than the last time you posted about him

Hilarious, honestly. I'd love to know what he's done this time.

I don't comment about him. He has had personal problems. Full stop.
