That's just a manifestation of the core principles, though. The core principle is to have a highly disciplined, almost robotic in nature defense (and midfield - thus Eriksen's challenges at Inter). Lots of tactical rigidity - which is one of the first things Inzaghi did away with when taking over at Inter. Positions were basically mechanical. It's not about deep, high, etc, its about hours and hours of exhausting drills, very specific defined plays, and reducing (for example) roaming forward and creativity.

These core principles weren't working too well until we changed the way we were playing.

"Rigidity" didn't help us as much as compensating for our spatial deficiencies.

Sure, you need to adapt to the players you have at hand, but still, imho anyone who isn't desperately flagging our defense as the single biggest issue at inyer is out of their minds inho

Yeah, I agree it's an issue. At times I think it's because our attack is so blunt that we invite it a bit, but anyway. We have no money so we make do.

The bigger issue is that I see "defence" has been spelled with a "s". I try to read these comments with an Australian accent, and that sort of stuff just doesn't compute.

Anyway, did jump back in here again to add that Acerbi at LCB is a BAD IDEA. A BAD IDEA. They reckon if you speak louder in a foreign language, it's easier to understand, right?

Napoli: Best attack, third best defence in the league

Inter: Second best attack, 15th "best" defence in the league (but we have the same number of conceded goals with Sassuolo and Monza, so you can argue we are the 13th "best" defence in the league).

That would explain the 11 points gap between them and us. These simple stats show Inzaghi what should he work on in the next month and a half.

Don't have one.

Don't think he can work it out tbh, it's part of his system. We saw glimpses of it last season now it's full-blown, lazio had similar tendencies.

His philosophy when we lose is always pointing towards attack not doing their job, and saying we have to be more clinical, that tells you everything you need to know about whether he can fix it or not. He is just way too attack oriented, and that's a major part of our defense problem.
