Simone Inzaghi

One thing to consider is that he is still learning. Not like he's a finished product as a manager. The guy is in his early prime still at 47 I think, and tactically he is quite good as proven by his chess-match ability in the big games. He certainly makes mistakes, some of his subs infuriate me at times still, but on the flipside he handles players extremely well and most importantly he develops their game. Great managers tap into player ability and squeeze the most from them and I think he has done that.

My hope is that he sticks around with a contract extension and we get a new owner sometime in the next year or two. Because I would like to see what he can do with an owner who gives him a nice budget every year (not necessarily a top budget) and allows him to do a little shopping to round out the roster the way he wants it. Could be that he doesn't have skills on the evaluational side, but that's the best way to find out and when you have a manager who maximizes the talent he's given that can reduce mistakes quite a bit.

What he's done with Lukaku as an example I expect Chelsea will try to re-incorporate him into their team next year. Because he is world class, absolute top level form at this moment in time, and he is about to play in a CL final where the world will see that quality. If we win the final I assure you one big element will be Lukaku. In the end it is players who win games not managers. Managers are crucially important, but players translate it all. So this manager has a ton of value to me and I am worried someone is going to poach him. Hopefully that doesn't happen though.

He deserves an off-season where we actually strengthen our team instead of patching it with band-aids. If his serie a form doesn’t improve, we should look to replace him.

I think its likely any sales this year will be plusvalenza straight into the transfer kitty, so we'll need to see what we sell.

Did you watch lukaku interview after the milan game in cl where he said inzaghi had to make adjustments to his tactics because the high press he was stubborn about was not sustainable? That's why some of the people here, including me, were saying from day one the way we play and how much energy we spend every single game was beyond ridiculous to work over the 38 games in the season. Those type of tactics can only work if you play only one competition, or you have unbelievable team depth, and I don't think we will be in either of those two situations any time soon. That's why people think it's not sustainable...

Luckily for us in this second part of the season he listened to the players and changed his approach a bit, so now you see much more conservatism, defending deep etc... than it was the case at the start of the season. Positive thing is if he can keep those changes and depth to his tactics, with few more signings and maybe prioritizing the league more and not keeping all the competitions at the same level of value we can probably be number one scuddetto contender next season. But if he returns to gung ho football with very little rotation, I can bet you my house you will again see those black holes in february and march, and why that type of football is not sustainable for the full title fight.

I don't think we're going back there anymore. Inzaghi showed even in his first Inter season that we can play well defensively (32 conceded goals, Milan and Napoli had 31).

Also I think there were external factors after the summer which affected our start of the season, it wasn't too cohesive and united.

Yeah people forget that we started the preseason by telling Bastoni to fuck off to Tottenham, then told Skriniar to fuck off to Paris and then changed our minds and whatnot...

Well tbh, Bastoni thing happened in June, he said no and that was it. It was long gone when the season started. Skriniar case was the one which might have had an effect to the locker room.

I was one of the people who wanted Inzaghi gone after our terrible run of form, but I've changed my mind on him based on what he's shown. After the Monza game I thought there was no chance we make Top 4, but credit to him for turning the situation around.

The rotations every second matchday seemed to really work for this group. Despite the fact we have some average players that need to leave, I think Inzaghi realized the importance of keeping our important players fresh and it paid off.

As much blame as he gets for playing guys like Gagliardini and Correa, he doesn't really have many options as those guys are part of the first team and rotation players. We have 6 midfielders and 4 strikers and he is using all of the players. I wish Asllani was getting some of Gagliardini's minutes but obviously Inzaghi feels that Gagliardini is better suited to one role while Asllani works better in another.

We've seen many coaches get to a point where the cycle of bad results just never ends (Pioli when he was managing us for example), or they limp over the finish line (Spalletti in 2018-2019). One thing that impressed me is how well this team has played since our bad form. Obviously not every game has been great (Fiorentina second half), but for the most part we have played really good football in the last few months. I went into the Atalanta game worried about tiredness but Inzaghi instructed the team to come out and attack Atalanta from the start, which makes sense given Atalanta tend to concede a lot of goals at the beginning of games.

Anyway, I think he's shown that he learned from the first half of the season imo. I thought he would persist with his high-line where we would be destroyed as soon as we lose the ball high up the pitch, but he's shown different ways of playing and approaching games. I think he deserves a lot of credit for how we approached games such as Lazio, Milan (Euroderby first match) and Atalanta. Even in the Napoli match, I was fine with our approach given the rotation and I believe we go away with a draw if Gagliardini didn't lose his head.

I'm hoping he can have a good future with us as I actually like the guy and think he has us playing the best football we've played in quite some time. The team may not be as organized as they were under Conte, but I'm enjoying the games more and the team does not seem to be afraid of the big games in CL, which is really important. At the end of the day, our financial situation means it's more important to get as far in CL as possible.

He also hasn't been lucky in terms of transfers. Let's not forget he had to wait until the last days of the transfer window just to get Acerbi, after the team missed out on Bremer, and the whole Skriniar fiasco (plus Skriniar coming into the season really slowly due to his injury over the summer).

Bastoni was promised contract talks in July and they barely started in late September.

Something similar happened with Skriniar. We promised not to sell him and then after 2 days we accepted a bid to sell - only for Zhang to reject it after Skriniar was told to discuss terms with PSG.
And of course our contract talks started a couple of months after...

Rannochia said last year he met with inter directors on June or something and they didn't even know what their budget was for the summer.

haha no Hakan and Bastoni contract extensions but we are going to pay Nacho more than Real Madrid on a 3 year contract

Usually extending the contract doesn't work for us, but at least we didn't extend directly after the first season.

Yeah I think his contract was extended right after the first season. I don't think he should be given another extension right away though, no matter what happens in the final. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Give him some more time, let's see if he could get his shit together in the next season because past two seasons were disappointing, especially last one was an absolute disaster IMHO. Way too many defeats, lack of consistency and everything else.

They never learn. Its not a friggin time to extend his contract. We all saw that he is unstable. He can lead us to CL glory and meanwhile he can lose 5 games in a row against minions like Monza.
