I hear the whole thing is being played on artificial turf? Seems dangerous

Need our neighbors up north to explain this whole thing... even I didn't know of this. Not surprised a few buildings are turf....

Women claiming its sexist and this would never happen at a men's World Cup. And I have to say...they're probably right.

Parting gift from Blatter, blown out knees for all you bitches. Maybe next time you'll take his idea about the tighter shorts more seriously.

The 2007 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru was played entirely on artificial grass. So, it already has happened at a men's World Cup.

Just a note that I realise that, if you're talking about senior World Cups, then of course yes there hasn't been one on artificial turf.

Yeah I meant senior. Although that's a good fact I didn't know previously.

Yeah neither did I until I did a little google search on turf history (while at work, of course). All in all, it's plainly obvious that FIFA shouldn't be scheduling a tournament using pitches like that.

Having said that, does anyone know what sort of turf will be used in 2018 in Russia?

No, but I hear in Qatar the games will be played on the bones of deceased migrant workers.

I'm curious as to why they decided to go with artificial turf in a developed country like Canada. Seems odd. Apparently one strength they're citing is consistency; each surface is guaranteed a certain performance level so to speak, while grass can have inconsistencies.

Consistent in that they'll all tear your legs up real well, it seems.

About to watch the Germany vs Ivory Coast.

Didn't realise that Ivory Coast were so low but can understand why. Bbc pundits are hot though

Watching some of this now... Didn't think Ivory Coast was that bad. (Then again, I'm not looking at the rankings)

Their defending would put 11 year olds to shame.

I thought this was a practice game. What kind of defending is this?
