Weghorst?! Please if we lower ourself for this kind of standards we might just give up this season and be fine if we play EL football next season. Not even as a back-up he is decent. Poor technique, poor skills, poor pace. He's not a target man like Dzeko, he can't head or keep the ball with him. Nice player for Wolfsburg but come on, are we resorting to that level?

I will give you credit for being about the most anti-Falcao Law person I've seen around here.

at this point Martial or Correa sound like good ideas

I'd rather we buy nobody than spend 30mil for somebody who will be far from what Milito brought us for the same money. At least Milito had a godly numbers where-ever he went, can't say the same for Zapata or any of the other 30ish old strikers we are rumoured to.

Weghorst is in an upgrade on Dzeko
How so? Very limited technically, decent mid-table striker but not Inter quality, the fact that he failed to bench Luuk De Jong or even Babel all these years for the Dutch NT is a real bad look for hi. Plus I doubt Wolfsburg would let him leave when their season has already started.

You make it sound like Weghorst is some really poor player.

No matter how people rate Bundesliga, but it's really a good league and Weghorst has some real stats from that league. Wolfsburg made it to the CL for this season so it's not like he was the Simy of Crotone.

Simy managed 20 goals in serie a, i'm doubtful Weghorst can produce the same. Not a bad player but we want a Kaku replacement, or at the very least, a player who can bench Dzeko. Weghorst can do none of those things.

And no way Wolfsburg will sell their #9 for 20M this late, that's just a dream, unless they're trying to get rid of him, in which case why are we interested.

Again, the real test for quality of a BLiga player is if either Dortmund or Bayern express interest.

gds - Marotta still hopes for Vlahovic

good luck with that
Like Ausilio would say, hope is the last thing to go. :D

Honestly i can't see how Marotta could pull this off without a Lautaro sale. It sounds like we don't have more than 40m for the new forward, Fiorentina value him at 60-70m while Tottenham are heavily linked with him.

Personally i would go for Jovic or Coutinho but my gut feeling tells me in the we will sign Tucu Correa for around 30m. It just makes too much sense for everyone involved. Serie A proven, cheaper and younger than Zapata, Inzaghi's favorite while he's entirely useless to Sarri and Lotito desperately needs to sell to sort out the liquidity issues of Lazio.

gds - Now that it looks like Zapata will be staying at Atalanta, Inter sees Correa as the first option. Correa would like to join Inter, but there is also Everton ready to invest.

Rumor is that we will sign Insigne in 5 months for free, if Napoli continues to shoot high. And I fully support that idea.

The best option right now should be signing some stop-gap solution to save this cursed year only. Better than panic-spending a ton and get stuck with mediocrity for years to come. Too bad Giroud was signed by Milan already. Or maybe, loaning Coutinho for a year with Barca paying half of his salary?

How I look at all the rumoured names. The names are listed in the order I prefer.

1. Vlahovic - best option, talented, can make the leap to next level. And he will get to learn so much by playing with Dzeko.
2. Zapata - if the price isn't too high. Think 30m is not bad. He will give us a good 2 seasons. Currently in this prime, brings physicality, good skills, decent finishing ability. He would be a good partner to any of Lautaro/Dzeko/Sanchez.
3. Correa - not clinical at all, and not a world class striker. But he does bring something different to our attack, and that can be valuable in some situations.
4. Insigne - not world class for me. Too one dimensional, and not one to perform under pressure at important moments.
5. Martial - rich brat's Correa. I think he is useless, and super fucking expensive. Can consider as an option on loan, and only if Manu pay half his wages.
6. Weghorst - let's not even go there.

Seems like Vlahović is gone to Atletico so we can kiss that dream goodbye

This is actually very bad news for us. Not only because we aren't getting Vlahovic but also because it raises the chances of Tottenham making an improved offer for Lautaro.

Well, if they decide to trigger the release clause then nothing we can do.

I could be very wrong as I’ve only watched him at the Euros, but I really wasn’t a big fan of Weghorst. Seems very physical and great in the air but seemed to really like technique and seemed a bit clumsy to me at times. I know he’s not liked here due to price but I’d take Zapata over him for sure.

My opinion is purely based on the Euros though as I’ve never watched him otherwise - maybe he was just an awkward fit for the Dutch team.

I think everyone would prefer Zapata over Weghorst, its not even close in terms of quality. And I'm not even a fan of buying Zapata. Weghorst is just not Inter quality, he is more like Fiorentina level player at best.

I am hoping these are just media made up rumours, we can't lower our standards so much. Otherwise it would feel like the banter era.
