Next two (2023 and 2025) editions are scheduled for the summer periods to allign with European formats. Wouldn’t matter at all if we were to sign him on a free next summer.I'm not sure having an African goalkeeper would be a good idea because of the African Nation Cup being played during the season. Imagine your 1st choice keeper missin a month of action because he's playing with his national team.
Yh I wasn't aware of that. You're right it wouldn't matter then.Next two (2023 and 2025) editions are scheduled for the summer periods to allign with European formats. Wouldn’t matter at all if we were to sign him on a free next summer.

I'd rather go for Cragno, I feel he's a better fit + home grown, but Cagliari may be tough to negotiate with.
There's also the option of Sergio Rico. There's no way he should stay there now with Donnarumma and Navas ahead of him and anyone who's watched him at Sevilla knows he's quite good.
We need a stop-gap GK unless we can land someone for a decade. And there doesn't seem to be a decade worth's of GK out there. Onana is on the level of Vlachodimos, not someone I'd expect Inter to have as a first choice GK.
Unai Simon would have been an option but I think he has something like a 1bn release clause or something like that. He doesn't want to leave Athletic, so it'd be very hard to entice him. We have a name of having top tier GKs, so perhaps us being interested in him would mean more, but that's not a strong attachment.
I don't think Onana would want to be on the bench. He's a youth product of them. Handy in CL lists
this sounds like 2018 Onana to me. Given his you age he can remedy all the above in time. Neuer was 25/26 when he joined Bayern. JC12 was around the same age when he joined and similarly a flashy risk taker. The key is we have a foundation from which to build on with this young, athletic keeper with already 50+ caps of high-level continental football under his belt.@rfU i mentioned several times that I don't rate Onana very high because:
- He is too erratic.
- He crumbles under pressure with the ball at his feet.
- His positioning during build up is questionable.
- He doesn't inspire when it comes to controlling the box, especially from aerial threats.
- He tries to be flashy with the ball, causing unnecessary trouble. And that's just by playing in the Dutch league where he's not even under pressure!
Now you're just hating. Onana speaks dutch, spanish, french and english.Let's not ignore that he doesn't speak the language and communication is key. And this is someone with questionable communication skills as a goalie to begin with.
Agree with this. But JC12 didn't play for 5-6 months before stepping up to be our #1.the fact that he's not been playing for so long should also be a concern.
This reminds me of what Onana said about clubs not trusting black goalkeepers or black gks having to work harder7-9 out of 10 isn't really good enough. Especially since some of those are reaches for a 7/10 rating, like communication and catching that I'd probably put closer to the 5-6 range. Shot stopping at 8/10 and reflexes at probably even a 10/10. Don't think punching is a thing, it's actually a weakness when you punch the ball. And with Onana we've seen many times that he is not able to parry the ball to safety but instead sends it in front of him, where an opposing player may find an easy tap in.
Now you're just hating. Onana speaks dutch, spanish, french and english.
Dutch (DeVrij) and I'm sure a bit of Spanish (Godin). Bastoni is an NBA fan so there's probably a bit of english in the mix. Onana should be fine.Yet our team speaks Italian
fair enough. But I disagree he's on the same level as Onana.I mentioned Rico as a stop-gap alternative because we won't commit to a 4-5 year contract for him
Facts.the race part is probably rooted with youth coaches who opt to use these player stereotypically.
Not good enough. He was meant to go back to RBL but with Gulacsi as first choice and captain he wouldn't play, in fact PSV got that new dutch NT keeper to replace him, but now he's back and on the bench. So Mvogo is in limbo basically. He's available for cheap, under 10M*Though I just noticed that he hasn't played much this season. Is there a reason for that? He was fine last season.

Godin only speaks spanish but assimilated well enough with the others. I hear spaniards pick up Italian fairly quickly and vice versa.Godin is no longer with us. A certain Skriniar is.
As for the race thing, don't think it's an issue. There are plenty of very good black GKs, like Mvogo from PSV and we've seen Chelsea and Milan recently trust players of this background for the job. Main issue is that there aren't as many and the race part is probably rooted with youth coaches who opt to use these player stereotypically.
I do wonder if Mvogo had opted for his native Cameroon over Switzerland if he'd eventually displace Onana. By reputation, I think not, but if it was a quality issue alone I think their coach wouldn't be able to decide. I'd go for Mvogo personally*. Mentioning him because it's a similar situation, black GK from Eredivisie, playing for rivals and could have been NT teammates as well.

So Onana isn't in the top 50 GK but you prefer Mvogo? Mvogo made a lot of mistakes while playing the ball with his feets and was a real liability for PSV that's why they got another GK. I'm not completely objective about Onana but when Mvogo was playing for PSV he didn't show anything that would place him even near the level of Onana but I guess we have to agree we disagree about that matter.
Yeah he definitely should be speaking French.PSV did replaced him but that guy isn't the NT keeper. That's a young guy from Feyenoord and on the EC it was Stekelenburg(who stopped playing for Holland after the EC). I would even prefer to guy for Bijlow(NT keeper, young player of Feyenoord). And Onana doesn't speak Dutch, he speaks English, Spanish and I guess French because he was borned in Cameroon? But I don't think I've ever heard him speaking Dutch.
I think the fuss is the fact he will be free more than his quality, a realistic option.I don't consider Mvogo a lock for the top 50 either, obviously. At least based on the peak that I've seen from both, I reckon Onana has better jumping ability but Mvogo is perhaps more agile. I just mentioned based on the similarity of the circumstances and the price, it's a worthy alternative to look at if Onana is the level of GK we're aiming for.
I just don't get the fuss about Onana. He has super reflexes but that's it from a very top level. Great reflexes is something you could find in at least 2,000 active goalkeepers around the world. I don't see anythign else that stands out and I see a lot of deficiencies.
Yeah he definitely should be speaking French.
