It's still early days for Dimarco. It remains to be seen if he can be a starter for Inter in the long term. But even if he shows he's starting material, we would still need to get someone to rotate with him. I doubt we could get a decent lwb for less than 10m. If Kostic is available for a similar price, it's a no-brainer.

As for CM, if Vidal continues his positive performances a creative midfielder (e.g. Aouar) should be a bigger priority than someone like Nandez in January.

I was just thinking that yesterday. Aouar at the prices being quoted in summer should be a winter target. Upgrade on Hakan and long term Sensi replacement in squad.

I’d love both but realistically only Aouar is even remotely in our price range. Ndidi would have a tremendous EPL price tag on him unless his contract is expiring within the next 12 months.

Aouar is not an answer for that. I think management isn't allowed to actually buy anyone in winter mercato if they aren't also selling someone. And Sensi hardly can be sold now. Or maybe Commisso will give Italiano a player while they are hunting EL spot?

Aouar addresses the issue of the starting creative midfielder in our midfield trio because so far Hakan certainly isn't that player. Getting someone to compete with Hakan should be a higher priority than Brozovic backup.

Fit in where? he's an attacking mid, he's not a scorer and doesn't defend, he'd be useless in a 352.

I think before cosigning you have to be sure what kind of player VDB is. He's not an on-the-ball midfielder who orchestrates or coordinates the attacks. He's strictly off the ball, pressing, running into space, looking for gaps in all areas. What we need (especially on those wages) for that tenuous 3rd midfield spot alongside Barella and Brozovic is a fit Rafinha / Sensi who can carry and move the ball around intelligently into forward areas.

What happens if Eriksen miraculously returns? Do we have to take a player out in order to register him?

Basically yes. CL list has the 25 player limit but with our club-trained players, the limit is 24. No first team player can go to B-list. Serie A also has 25 player limit, but we are able to add younger players to the B list in Italy apparently. Satriano didn't fit to CL B-list but I guess he fits to Serie A B-list. That allowed us to have 5 forwards.

It's stunning to me VDB is still at United. My only thought is that they're holding onto him for when Pogba leaves. I think he'd be a great add if we could get him on loan.

Barella - Untouchable
Calhanoglu - Dissappointing so far and inconsistent as fuck but won't leave after just one season

Uncertain:

Brozovic - Contract running out, keep if salary demands don't go too crazy

Fuck off:

Vidal - Contract running out, absolutely no point renewing.
Vecino - Contract running out, absolutely no point renewing. Some other player can perform better and likely for half of the wages this shit currently earns.
Sensi - Time to face the fact he just won't stay fit anymore.
Gagliardini - 1 more year left after this season, even more useless than Vecino, might have to see him sit out the last year of his contract.

I'm telling you we won't probably find equally good player as Vecino for cheaper salary as we need to address the transfer fee too. Vecino's characteristics are specific and if he accepts wage cut, I'd definitely re-sign him.
