Of course it's indirectly a Zhang thing. This club has no revenue so it's exploring "low cost" and "safe" options.
Its related, but it also predates - we made similar dumbfuck moves under Thohir as well, and even Moratti.

Nacho can't be the only CB signing, we need 2-3 new CB's for next season. In an ideal world the starting 3 would be:

Bastoni-Acerbi-Mr.X

Also in that ideal world Acerbi would play less, and I would not give extension to De Vrij, neither to D'Ambrosio. So in my books we need
* Skriniar replacement to the right (starter)
* D'Ambrosio replacement to the right (bench, possibly Darmian)
* Rotation option for Acerbi in the middle
* Rotation option for Bastoni to the left (even thou Acerbi has stunted there this season he really should stick to the middle)

I don't know the exact situation of Pirola, I hope we can cough up the dough to redeem him or something, get Nacho on a free and one Mr.X.

Bastoni-Acerbi-Nacho
(Pirola)-(Mr.X)-(Darmian/Mr.X2)

I don’t want Nacho to come in as a starter. If he comes in and wins a spot it’s another thing. We need a ready but more future-looking signing to replace Skriniar.

I see a few people counting on Acerbi as a starter. I appreciate everything he did in the past few months, but that's a huge gamble to go into another season expecting him to be the starter and play most of the games.

The biggest red flag in this deal is contract length. You simply don't give a 3-year contract to a 33 year old. Period.
I agree but how to convince him without lengthy contract though? We have lesser money. He simply can stay at Real or choose any team that can offer him a starting position.

You don't. You simply go for another target if they don't want to come on our terms. We should go with 1+1 formula for +32 years old players; giving 3 years deal is idiotic.

Real Madrid is offering the same. So you are suggesting we skip Nacho. Normally I agree if we need 1 defender. But unfortunately not 1, but 3 are leaving. Obviously all of them cannot be all costly.

The fact is that Nacho is still a Real level starter and we cannot find better for cheaper. We need both him and a younger more expensive DC.

Usually teams solve the gaps with the home grown players. But we are too idiotic to ship e.g. Pirola to survive (deals at which all of you call "plusvalenza magic"). Then now the rest is even worse and not good enough for bench. Here is the consequence.

They are? Iirc I read they are offering 1 or 1+1 deal to him.

It does not matter if we need 1 or 3 defenders. We need to have a certain formula about offering deals to older players. If the player does not agree with our terms we need to look somewhere else. Nacho is not the only player we can get. There are dozens out there if our management is not lazy enough to just focus on 1. For a club that is struggling financially we are quite wasteful in how we spend our resources.

There is a rumor that Chelsea offer for Onana is Koulibaly + money. I don't know what is that salary of Koulibaly, but I would get him. He will be a monster as central defender.

35 and free... Marotta was probably on the call right away offering a 3 year deal.

He played 31 games last season. A 1 year contract with low salary as Acerbi back up.

Beggar can't be chooser.

Otamendi is a solid defender and can do a good job as backup/rotational player. Just don't offer him anything more than 1+1 deal and ofc do not offer him any high salary.

I guess he could do a rotation CB. But indeed salary cannot be too high and I'm sure we would offer him 3M net (growth decree cuts the costs to the equivalency of 2M net).

Haven't we already figured out that if you have old players it's gonna cost you millions? And they will also need enough rest to perform on a high level all the time.

It's crazy how our team dips in form every season. No to Otamendi. If you want to bring an experienced CB, let him be 30 years old, not 35. At least make it make sense financially.

Kolarov was horrible for us. Are we gonna get an old CB every summer? How is that good for our finances?
