Let’s actually see him on the pitch first before we pass judgement on him. Also at his age it’s first now he really have to put in number…I've seen a limited amount of Thuram but from what I have seen, I simply don't know what I'm supposed to be impressed by.
It's the exact same thing for Balogun. I've never seen more unimpressive goal compilations than either of these guys.
And yet we decided to give Thuram guy a €6m net salary. Yes, I know - he's a free agent - and with the growth decree his annual cost is quite low, only €9m or so. But he's literally the joint highest earner in our team alongside Calhanoglu () and Lautaro.
The way I see it, we've put ourselves in this really precarious and uncomfortable position where Thuram is getting paid like a star, but isn't anywhere near good enough to repay that value on the pitch.
If he then turn out to be nothing special, he can always be sold next summer. It’s more or less a free lunch, so don’t matter all that much with his high salary, as that should be easy enough to cover in a sale in 10 months time.
We've elevated his profile and the expectations on him with that enormous wage but personally, I don't see the skills in his game to match that expectation. That disparity is the definition of a flop right?
No you need to view him as low risk operation, if you had bought him straight out he would not have received this wage. This is partly a consequence of being a bosman. Such a transaction alone would have been 40m or so, now we get him for modest spending with 100% plusvalenza when he is eventually sold. 9m is incredible cheap for a player like him, it’s more then well worth it and it’s hardly even a risk as you easily sell him for that.
We can sell him for 10m and most club’s gladly pay the higher wage. Clubs look at the whole package not just the wage.If he doesn't flop and instead, really blossoms as a player, I'll happily eat humble pie. If he does flop though, how are we going to shift this guy? Who the hell is going to take on his gargantuan salary? Realistically, we'd have to sell him at a lower fee (which would be "acceptable" as he came on a free) or pay part of his wages at his next team.
We're all in on this gamble. Like it or not, Thuram has to be the starter and we have to hope he does level up big time.
