It’s no good starting a guy in two years time who hardly got to play in that period, he would be shaky and out of match form… It wasn’t a huge issue getting Sommer, Handanovic etc. to perform their first season, the idea a gk needs to be slowly introduced is just an odd idea when looking at what we done for quite some time. Sommer is likely not going anywhere the next two seasons.

I much rather have a gk who played as starting gk and not knowing the team then one who hardly played for 1-2 seasons but know the team.

Handanovic: Inter wasn't exactly at the top of their form, we weren't winning anything etc.

Sommer: season veteran with shit tons of experience including NT and continental games. Not comparable at all to a player we're about to sign.

I don't get where are you getting this "hardly played for 1-2 seasons". I am suggesting a scenario we had with Onana basically. Bring in a guy who plays in Coppa and maybe few CL league phase games (Onana started in CL games, but Handa was phased out at some point completely, due to injury). We sign Bento/Martinez, and it's not going to be he's hardly played for 1-2 seasons. They are starters in their respective clubs. They would play a little at Inter in their first season. Sommer's contract is up next summer so they'd take the reigns starting in the summer of 2025. That is one season when they'd play a bit less.

You are making this "not playing" a much bigger thing than what it would really be.

Handanovic was faced out exactly of the reason I stated earlier, dropping form and injury if not for that reality Onana would have been rotting on the bench and never had a shot as first choice. So unless Sommer replicate Handanovic poor form, then a replacement will happen over the summer mercato and an unproven gk or one who has not played much for 1-2 seasons will not be picked at this level for the following season, no coach at this level will be happy with that scenario. They prefer experience and one who has actually games under the belt not one who played a few CI games, and no he won’t be given a single game in CL as long Sommer performs.

Why do you keep saying 1-2 seasons when it will be at most 1 season? It's one season as 2nd keeper at one of the biggest clubs in the world, learning the ropes. You keep exaggerating it with the "1-2 seasons" without any reason. It's a long-term thinking. And has nothing to do with gambling.

It does feel a bit that way, doesn’t it? Let’s see if it works because we’re not offering a cent over 15mil for Bento. I believe that’s our hard budget unfortunately.

I don’t expect we get Bento. He has international atention now after making his national team debut. Will most likely cost 25 mln. We don’t have that kind of money sadly.
