?

I pretty much just explained how he got into an altercation with Gasperini in the first place. The guy clearly has his preference in what role he plays, and that role isn’t exactly aligned with what Conte plays.

He'll play as AM,don't worry, just bring him here. And if Cunte would do another Eriksen there is a big chance that Papu kill that fraud and we will finally be FREE.

Hazard, Fabregas, Pirlo? Not that I think Conte is a good judge of player but he requested Gomez, so why not?

Conte is a poor judge, and would be a disaster in the mercato if given charge. He never should be. There are some coaches who have a decent eye like Klopp or Mancini... but these are exceptions, and generally a top club needs a Director of Sport on top of the coach.

That said, I cannot imagine Conte requesting for Gomez. Did he make any comments or were there any media rumours? So far I assumed Gomez is someone Marotta is interested in, he doesn't seem like a player who would be Conte's priority (work rate, physicality, discipline, etc).

Since we cannot get winger, im fine with him. I like him a lot.

We would have similar attack from last year, but better. IF we can get Destro too. Forlan - Palacio, Pazzo - Destro, Gomez - Zarate. Not bad. Plus, we have Coutinho who can definitely deliver if given the chance.

So having Palacio, Gomez, COutinho and Ricky i needed on the wings, is not actually bad. Plus there is Sneijder. Milito and Destro to cover the CF position.

Now, lets get this done faster and spend on the fucking DEFENSE!

Them names tho

As for Papu. Always liked the guy. He was too wasteful back in the day, just to turn out to be one of the best all rounders in Serie A. He is getting old, but he is cheap and he can be immense for us. IMO we should go all in for him. We need him (and LWB obviously).

I understand that Papu Gomez is a great opportunity on this market, but i don't know how he can fit the Conte's game...

Tbh we'd probably end up giving him a 3 year contract for a 33 year old, it's a good short term move but then where do we go from there?

Three years would be stupid, two years max. Hope he can be good this and next season like last two, that would be great.

Cheap? Atalanta keeps asking for 10m€. Don't know where's the leverage to get that number down considerably since I don't see us spending anything over 5m€ to any player.

Same. I realise Gomez is a great market opportunity but where are we going to play him? He can't play in midfield in Conte's 3-5-2. 3-4-1-2 doesn't suit our players and we have seen it whenever Conte tried to use it. Experimenting with 3-4-3 in order to fit Papu in the starting lineup when he reportedly doesn't like playing on the wing? Getting Gomez only to rotate him with Alexis for the role of the backup secondary striker? None of it makes any sense. Especially when there are much bigger needs in the squad.

10 is relatively cheap. 10 mils, ~4m in wage and two years contract is ideal. Proven, creative player, great set pieces, hard worker, relatively cheap, nothing much to lose really.

Tho his position is questionable. He is best as AM that roams a lot, even tho he has played as LCM and SS/false 9 in 3-5-2. But AM is his position, and we dont play with an AM.

Exactly, and trying to change our tactics in this moment of the season has not sense.

So, i don't think that Gomez can really be so helpful for us.

That's not cheap for us. And no way we're gonna pay him 4m€ in any given scenario. Rumor is the net salary will be 2.5m€ (alleged agreement with the player).

My prediction is Gomez won't move to Inter unless we pay Pirola or Esposito to get him.

And his position is indeed a question mark. Conte doesn't fancy any free roamers, like he doesn't fancy them AT ALL. Everyone needs to play strictly like trained as a unit. I think if we get Gomez, he would be some kind of option to the attack.

I concur. At the current stage, we shouldn't waste more point just to make player fit in, just like we did with Eriksen and Kolarov.
Gomez is indeed a very good player and opportunity, if the price remain €10m and wage net €2.5m for 2 year contract, then that would be at €4.6m gross p/a. This would be bring the total cost for this operation to €19.2m.
I doubt we would spend this much unless we offload those with high annual cost first, like Eriksen, Perisic and Vecino.

I agree. When you have a very limited budget, best to focus it on immediate requirements who fit our current tactics perfectly. Gomez would have been a good opportunity if we had money to spare. We don't.

I don't know about Mancini. His second time at Inter he iirc pushed for Kondogbia, which led us to the sale of Kovacic. Both bad decisions, especially losing Kova.

Kondogbia wasn't his choice, Mancini quite vocally wanted Yaya Toure but our management didn't approve. Kondogbia was perhaps the compromise.

Anyways, of course Mancini got transfers wrong every now and then. Every coach does. In my opinion, he is among the better coaches when it comes to identifying players that suit their gameplan. Even then I would rather have a sporting director, its just a better system.

Mancini refused a raise and preferred to resign rather than green-light the transfers of Joao Mario and Gabigol. You gotta respect that.

Short term or not, he is the best transfer that is possible in January. Scudetto is a toss up and there is not another player on the market who improves the team more. As annoyed as I am by the old buys, it's situations like these where bringing in an older player is a good idea. Not getting players like Kolarov who are practically being wheeled around and players like Vidal who have went senile. Had we have gotten Modric a few years ago he'd still walk into the starting midfield.

Good opportunity

If Conte can let go of his ego for a second and admit to himself he is clueless on how to attack vs parked-bus teams, he will want him to open up defences for him.

Or perhaps Marotta is planning for the post-Conte era? :yao:

In any case, Eriksen would have to leave first, which looks like a long shot at the moment.
