For me, we only have to look across the city. Thiaw, Kalulu, Vranckx, Ballo-Toure probably cost Milan about 5/6m combined, but I'm sure they'd be able to sell them on for 5m+ each.

We appear to be simply incapable of doing anything like that - finding somewhat decent, unknown players at low cost. Asllani was 14m (and doesn't play), Bellanova would cost 7m and he's terrible, Bastoni cost 30 odd million, Onana was known globally, Lautaro cost 20m, etc. etc.

We appear to wait for a player to be completely out of our price range or utterly overpriced before making a move. And even if we identify them, as apparently every damn player in the world was on Ausilio's list before going somewhere else, we don't get them!

Our squad is old, our owners are broke, and our management is either out of ideas or has objectively horrible ones. So selling Bastoni or not selling Bastoni seems to be a moot point, we're gonna be ass regardless until Suning leaves.

So you said it yourself. Everyone is on Ausilio's list, but we don't go for them.
So we identify them, we promote them to the relevant department, the guy in charge of giving transfer names to the transfer decision makers does so, but we don't go for them. So how can scouting be blamed if everything that's wrong is admittedly further down the line?

Ausilio wanted to sign Tchoaumeni and made a bid, along with Karamoh, but he was blocked because we decided we only wanted a RW at the time for example. How is that scouting's fault?

5.5 is reasonable IMO. But even having a so-so season, Bastoni is worth more than the 4m he’d be getting offered if the rumours are anything to go by. Frankly, I’d almost be insulted if I were him. He’s an Interista and he’ll stay for less but within reason.

Rumor was our starting offer is 4.5m, not 4m.

Bastoni with his current season is not worth 6m net. If he starts to really dominate the league, we can talk 6m+ numbers but not now.

The issue isn't identifying talents. The Inter scouts identify the talent. They don't have the final say. They can recommended the player to ausilio but doesn't matter when either Zhang's no budget or beppe's no serie a experience will scupper any deal.

We no longer buy unknown "talents" because most of the few times we did, they are trash. Kindly remind me what was the last time we are successful with hidden gems outside Italy? Lautaro. That's it. Dumfries is decent. Lazaro Dalberto Botta Brazao Alvarez Gabi and such shits (I cant even remember them all) aren't even good enough for an Inter bench.

Beppe is right to avoid such types. He confirmed only Hakimi-esque deals only when he had the fund. He can't do that anymore since Suning is broke.

Bastoni does not worth 6 M/season period. I agree it will be very difficult to replace an Italian left foot modern defender. However, 6 M/year is an amount for proven indispensable players in the squad and Bastoni is nowhere close. And imagine how much wage he will ask at the next contract extension. He still has to work on his defensive ability which has been average for the past seasons. If he insists on an outrageous 6M/year then we have to cash him out before he obliterates our finance even worse.

I agree, Bastoni does not deserve anything more than 5-5.5m now. I like him, but his performance has not improved over the years to deserve a rise beyond those figures.

And we don't know how good will he be in a 4 man defence line. Playing the LCB in a back 3 line might be his best position and he has not exactly set the world on fire in that post.

2 years ago I would have said Barella and Bastoni should be off the market, but now I would sell anyone for the right price at the right time. If he does not extend, sell him in the summer.

I think he does that on purpose. Inter will not agree that we have to sell him this summer. He is not an undisputed basic player and he also sees what is happening at the club. I don't think he has any faith in the project anymore. And who can blame him?

Yea, but it's common that all of them are with contracts almost expired. In two of the occasions, we agreed to overpay, but not for Bastoni?
I mean, if De Vrij earns 4, I fully understand why Bastoni demands 6 mln.

Actually I can see his point. He is quite young and made his name early. Then he sees how everyone demands big money and the club agree. So, as he is one of the scudetto team and a starter, he believes that he deserves the same.

To be fair, considering dzeko and de vrij and their respective trajectories, his demands are fair, and asking to be paid fairly isn't unteasonable when you have one career for maybe 15 good years.
