Recoba playing like Pirlo?

Well, I just sat down a couple of minutes ago and checked out a couple of sites, which to my great suprise announced that Recoba and Zacc have been discussing the possibuility of playing Recoba in a role similar to that of Pirlo. And apparently he has already been tried out in that position..

So I was wondering what you guys think of this idea?

Personally im quite torn.. I actually have quite big difficulties in predicting which formation Zacc is considering... but this would be my guess:

------------Toldo

---Cafe - Matrix - Canna

Zanetti - Recoba - Zanetti - Coco

----------Stankovic

------Adriano----Vieri

Recoba obviously (IMO...) posses the qualities when it comes to spreading out the game, playing through balls and shooting long shots (i believe that the fact that none of our midfielders are a big thread in long distance shots is one of our biggest problems).

Therefore I have no doubt that he could be a really good thing for our midfield!

However, Recoba also has a tendencie which he will HAVE to leave behind. His dribling will have to stop, because loosing possesion in the position where he will apparently be tried out can/will have disastrous consequences. I believe that the reason why Pirlo has been so succesful is exactly because he has been able not loose the ball in compromising positions. If Recoba is able to force himself to not do risky moves (and as a consequence loose possesion) then im sure he will be as succesful as Pirlo:)

If the plans are to use a 4-4-2 diamond just like Milan, I´m all up for it. On one condition. That we have no Pirlo position, because quite frankly, the only player who might be able to pull off such a position in our team is Emre.

4-4-2 diamond and this way, would perhaps work and it´s what I want to see:

Code:
                       Toldo

        Zanetti  Cordoba    Cannavaro   Brechet

                        Cristiano

          Stankovic                    Emre

                        Recoba

                Adriano              Vieri

Different diamond than Milan.

But if Karagounis continues to impress like this, he benches Recoba.

If Zac really try Recoba in the Pirlo role, he has to be out of his mind.

I don't believe either that Recoba could play as Pirlo role. I'm really supporting an idea using Recoba as attacking central midfielder behind strikers but hell no in front of the defence. I don't think Recoba has enough discipline to play in front of defense. He would have no freedom to dribble, quite less freedom to push forward and also limited freedom to try creative passes (risky deep in midfield). The role would be easy passes as quickly as possible to midfielders and I don't think Recoba is the man doing this.

Have to admit, 4-4-2 diamond looks alike very interesting option. Like Jimmy I prefer to have pure defensive midfielder (Cristiano Zanetti) in front of defence. We have no player like Pirlo. Emre could have chracteristics to act defensive playmaker but I'm still strongly against having defensive playmaker in front of the defense.

One thing I hate in this formula would be Van Der Meyde's destiny. I mean he would become quite useless (compare Serginho's situation at Milan). :mad:

Van der Meyde could work in my formula as well.

Stankovic makes movements into the central while Van der Meyde has a totally free role (which will mean he roams on the right flank).

IF Recoba fails in this role. Karagounis is my first choice, right now though.

Actually Recoba already failed in that role before! unfortunatly he lacks discipline... so I don't see why he'll succed now!!!

What position do you mean VDM to be used, Jimmy? :confused:

And when Chinito played as central midfielder? :confused: I have never heard that.

If we want to mimick AC Milan's lineup (atleast the one in FIFA 2004 :D )
then this is how I would want to see Inter lineup on the field....

----------------Adriano---Vieri

----------Recoba---------Van der Meyde

---------------Emre----C.Zanetti

----Coco---Cannavaro---Cordoba---J.Zanetti

---------------------Toldo

What a lineup :star:

We would be strong offensively and defensively. We would have 2 main strikers with 2 attackive supports, we would have 2 CM behind them and the 4 defenders in the back.

This lineup gives tons of room for Recoba and Van der Meyde to work with and it takes away their defensive assignments so that they can really perform.

The lineup also puts Emre in his rightful role, as a Left Center Midfielder, not a winger, not an attackive midfield.

And our defense would be stronger with 4 in the back but J.Zanetti and Coco could be able to make runs up and down the wing and still have someone able to cover for them...

If Zac used this lineup then I'm sure our bad luck would turn upside down :star: :D

Crespo, Figo, I
if recoba will be played in pirlo roles, our defense will have to cover for him.. since if he lost posession... it would be disastrous (I agree with some previous posts)...

I think It won't be similar to pirlo.., and inter.it doesn't mention anything about pirlo...

We have to be patient with this experiment, recoba certainly have the skills and quality to do it, but this is pretty new to him... even when the role fits him well, he still need to adjust himself..

I am against using Recoba in central midfield, unless we play with back 4.

----------------------toldo--------------------

j.zanetti----cordoba----adani----brechet/?
--------------------c.zanetti------------------

-------stankovic---a.recoba---kara---------

--------vieri/martins-------adri/martins----

;)

but we all know that we won't be playing back 4, so ??
lets hope that whatever zach does works, otherwise ....

:yuck:

That's not bad at all. However the problem would be the absence of Stankovic in this line-up. I am noticing that in the modern soccer there isn't that much need for pure R/L wingers. Few teams and coaches stick to the old ideas and you have more players playing in midfield and then drifting to a wing to cross. I think that we should have this line fixed:

Toldo
JZ -- Cordoba -- Canna/Mtx -- Coco

then our coach should be imaginative with how he plays the remaining 6 players.

For example, this would be a good one:

----------------CZ----------
Stankovic -- Emre -- Kily

the line of Stan, Emre and kily will be a good one since all three can defends as well as attack. We need an imaginative coach that tries different formation not one that blindly stick to one.

And BTW, i don't think Recoba will be good in that position. Maybe try Adani there. He defends well and pushes forward at times, he has to improve his passing though.

The problem with Recoba is u never know which one ur gonna get...Even if this works a couple of games but he goes back to being inconsistent then what,keep changing his positions?!
Plus giving him defensive duties just affects him offensively IMO,but for the sake of not benching such a talent i hope this works...This is definately the time to try it out.

:dielaugh::howler: True, true. :D

Anyway, I don't think it's set that Recoba will be given Pirlo's role. I obviously didn't watch the training match so I can't comment on what role he's gonna play. But there are many midfield role. How do we know if he's gonna be put in Pirlo's role??? It could be Kaka's. If we're trying to copy Milan's diamond midfield, this will be the formation that I want.

Pirlo ---> Karagounis
Gattuso ---> Emre (Switch side)
Seedorf ---> Stankovic (Switch side)
Kaka ---> Recoba

IMO, Recoba will fit into Kaka's role better. First, Recoba has very little, close to none experience as a playmaker. Maybe a bit of a problem since a playmaking ability doesn't only come from talent but from experience as well.

Second, he won't have as much defensive duties. He'll still be an offensive-minded player. Recoba's offensive quality is unquestionably good when he's on form.

Ah yeah. :embarass: Well than take out Karagounis and put C.Zanetti. Hmmm, this will be the same as yours, I guess. :D

I think that Emre is very similar to Gattuso though. But if we give him a ballwinner role like Gattuso, Emre won't be able to express himself offensively. One of Kara, Deki & Emre has gotta be sacrificed, unfortunately.

IMO fielding Recoba as defensive midfielder ever is HAZARDOUS. :D:D:D

Anyway the idea of playing Diamond-style is interesting but since that would involve getting rid of Zac I don´t like it. However if the (IMO) tragic thing should happen and Zac gets the kick this is certainly a interesting.

My favourite Diamond line-up with our current players:

Toldo

J. Zanetti - Materazzi - Cordoba - Coco

C. Zanetti

Stankovic - Emre

Recoba

Adriano Vieri

There you go Alex. ;) Just switch place with Cordoba and Materazzi and you have actually (for once! :D) written down a lineup that I like. :D
