Starting this thread as the other comics thread is basically just about anime.

Any one read superhero comics

my parents sold their house. I worked at a comic book store during high school. I had a ton of old stuff. I really only took the stuff I liked when I bought my house. I have a lot of first appearance of characters coming out in movies in my “worthless” pile.

I am going to start to go get them graded. Since getting them graded is where the big $$$ comes in.

anyone collect or have experience with CgC?

Not really, never had the money for it, so since I was in primary school I mostly read comics on the tablet or from the library. Also I don't like the format, I'd rather buy a graphical novel or a short story than a set of comic books.

Also to be fair, I only really liked a few spidermans, deadpools, peanuts and asterix&obelix. Everything else was kinda disappointing. Maybe Hulk, I have a vague memory about like some of his stories.

For instance what was disappointing - I loved the idea of Suicide Squad, but never really enjoyed any of the iterations, seemed too boring. Never got any good Ironman in my hands. Guardians of the Galaxy is SHIT, but I read that shit many years before the movies, so it's hard to say, they might make them more in line with the movie-feel nowadays.

Issue with comics is you get a great writer or artist and people like them. They instantly get stolen or promoted to Spider-Man/Batman or a main book. That’s why new characters fail unless they are crazy promoted (Miles Morales) or if the writer just loves them and doesn’t want to leave.

Also most characters are the same. Movies will make this even more noticeable soon

Batman = Daredevil(just blind)= Moonnight (without Magic) = Ironman(without a power suit tho Bats does use it) = Wolverine (with claws) = Punisher (that kills) , Green Arrow/Hawkeye (with a bow/arrow)

Ms. Marvel was written by a Pakistani writer and she loves the character so stayed.

batwoman was one of my favorite books a couple years back but DC was weird. They like fine you can make her gay. Ok she can get engaged. Hell to the no we will let her get married haha. So that team left and that character basically died.

best is DC going nope Batman doesn’t eat pussy! Like he straight … he eaten some before. You don’t have to show it. You can allude to it. Just like they allude to Mad Hatter being a Pedo.

I admire Robert E.Howard who created Conan the Barbarian and Solomon Kane . He's a true intellectual American who could've created more beautiful stuff but unfortunately he commited suicide at his very young age.

Despite the strong American cultural hegemony over Turkey ,in the 70's and 80's my people were more crazy about Italian comics
Zagor ,Tex ,Capitan Miki ,Martin Mystere ,Il Grande Blek ,Dylan Dog and many others...All of them were more sophisticated and far better than the American ones

Now we're living in social media age. People aren't into reading comics (not even novels or books) but I'm still a child who doesn't want to to grow up and still I like to read those comics.

by the way growing ups sucks

Sorry you guys missed the good old days with Stan Lee and Johnny Romita. Back then the comics were 12, then 15 cents.

I was reading and enjoying the recent Venom series, didn't like the fact that they gave him a long-lost son, but stopped reading it as I couldn't keep up with issue release dates. Other than that I've only read a few, X-Men vs Avengers is really good and tbh very satisying because I've always hated Cyclops as a character...I think this was around the time they were flipping the switch on him and Magneto. I'm glad Marvel were self-aware on the fact that people liked Magneto but didn't like Cyclops. Watchmen is also a favourite but I don't think the movie did it justice and people who haven't experienced the graphic novel are missing out. I've read a few Moon Knight issues without knowing much about the character and quite enjoyed them. I hope the TV show is good I just wish they actually casted Shia Labeouf for the role lol.

I've heard the Invincible comics are good but I'll just wait for more seasons of the show tbh. It's so hard getting into comics, especially when I know there's always some weird self-insert just around the corner. They keep making characters gay, ugly, trans, autistic, whatever the fuck. Robin is bi-sexual now all of a sudden. I just don't care for any of that. I get that a lot of "woke" people are now comic writers as well as readers and that's a turn off tbh.

If it's done the right way and serves the story in interesting ways, it can be good. Martin had Loras and Renly who were gay and Red Viper who was bisexual.

It's just an era where LGBTQ is getting their fair share of representation so that it finally normalizes in peoples minds. Same when there was an outcry that there aren't any black superheroes or latino characters in comics anyway. It's just more obvious because some of the writers are forcing some things in without feeling (meaning they are shit writers) or are forced by their editors (that's a rarity, but it can happen with new writers)

I don't mind different characters, but forcing and shoehorning it in, without making the character interesting otherwise, is a goddamn shame.

It's the son of Superman. Also they knew of the response, that's why they did it. I don't care, since Superman is boring af, but okay.
