Udinese - Genoa is at half time.
Ranocchia has been pretty quiet. He's being played on the left side of a 3 man backline and he's definitely right-footed.
He hasn't had to deal with a huge amount of pressure, but it seems all the tackles and interceptions are being made by Dainelli and Criscito. He seems a bit shy on the pitch.. I don't know 100% what formation Bari played last season but if I remember correctly they used a standard 4 man defensive line with 2 CB's. Watching that match, technically he's playing here:
Eduardo
Rossi Dainelli Ranocchia
Rafinha Milanetto Veloso Criscito
Palacio Sculli Palladino
(Toni was subbed for Palladino due to injury)
It seems Ranocchia is playing whereabouts Chivu is located on the pitch.
I don't want to be too critical because I know it's a new team, he's returned from a long injury lay-off, and he doesn't seem to be entirely comfortable in his position.
One definite positive I noticed is that he's not like a Cordoba on the ball. Ranocchia is skilled with the ball, has good vision for a defender and has a fast, accurate and intelligent pass.
Also on an unrelated note, Veloso is an interesting player. A friend told me Veloso is only good in video games, and I'm yet to really be impressed by him. He's got a weird, slicing style of passing, and he's definitely got the vision and style, he's not afraid to shoot or pass. If he managed half the shit he tried, he'd be an amazing player. Perhaps just an off day so far.
