Hopefully people will start to realise that the position de Vrij has is not a position that is hard to cover and is why people like Bonucci and David Luiz succeed there.

We should've put in an effort of trying to sell him instead of Hakimi but too bad it went like this summer did...

Bold statement. Try to slot Nelson Rivas in and see what happens.

Truth is Rano has improved and he has all the time in the world to study how the role functions by training with De Vrij everyday. Kudos to him but let's not go on suicide mode to dispose of De Vrij right now unless Newcastle is willing to pay us 45M

The only thing that tells me is that this position does not require speed but needs good passing ability. De Vrij, Bonucci & Luiz are all a bit slow and can struggle in 4 man defences for that reason. But all 3 of them can make some great long passes, have cool heads and know how to pass the ball out of the defence. More like a libero, than a defender.

Ranocchia was compared to the great liberos of the past when he was talented youngster at Bari, so I am not surprised that this system brings the best out of him. I know he has played very little, but I haven't seen a bad game of Ranocchia ever since we shifted to a 3 man defence.

He is more reliable than any our subs in the bench.
Everytime he playing we not lose.

I hope Gagliardinho learn from him, but Rano are different level for sure.

I feel proud for Frog he has come a long way. In the banter era he got abused for his mistakes and was even jettison to Hull City lol but now he has an Scudetto winner medal to his name no matter if it was as a back up.

Put in good work in two key games so far bravo 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

What games are you judging Ranocchia on? What's your sample size? Yall acting like he marked Mbappe out the game.

Like you said, great long passing, cool head and passing out of defence, Ranocchia doesn't excel in any of those areas. There was an instant where one of Shakthar's forwards bested him on the halfway line, went on a run, was about to get a shot off until Bastoni intervened. Give credit where's it due but lets not get carried away. History doesn't repeat itself but it rhymes. He might manage ok vs a Haller, but vs an Antony he'll get dusted.

That was the only case when Ranocchia was in trouble in these two big matches. And that case was something where the error had happened earlier as our system relies on avoiding such situations altogether.

Frog has actually become a dependable defender now. He has eliminated errors from his game. At least we can use him against low level opponents like Shaktar and the like. The next 2 games are easy so he can continue and give De Vrij more time to be fit for Roma and more importantly Real.

Don't forget 1) Oshimen only played 50 minutes and 2) Skrinny was the one tasked with man marking him with Ranocchia assigned clean up duties.

None of us want to see Ranocchia starting so lets not get carried away with praise. He's no Materazzi and he's no Bonucci or D Luiz. He has been competent last two games, keeping his usual mistakes to a minimum and that's the reason many of us are happy. He can probably get away with a few more of these displays as there're no real strikers left in serie A, but against the Benzemas, Mbappes, Haalands, Suarez, etc I need Rano back on the bench.

The long passes can be solved easily by letting Brozovic do that job which he already do alot.

It still stands that people's defensive weakness is covered by playing that position just as how New Maicon Jonathan looked amazing under Mazzarri at the WB position especially if you look at the statistics he had. Why I mentioned Bonucci and Luiz is because they are weak when it comes to defending without having the support of 2 other centerbacks doing the "real" job of a centerback. You only mention speed which is pretty laughable according to me.

The defensive duty of the center position in the 3 back position is so different compared to the other 2. Didn't a coach even try using David Luiz as a CDM where he could run headless into his opponents without worrying about the space behind him before he got the role of Bonucci/de Vrij?

Rano improved so much sitting on the bench and watching Skriniar and Bastoni, right? No wonder Inter tried so long having talents only sit on the bench and hope they automatically turn into the new Messi without playing time.

We are praising him because he did his job of backing up our starter, in two key matches of the season. We are not promoting him to a starting position ahead of De Vrij.

You want Rano back on the bench, so who comes in when De Vrij is out? I really don't get your argument here, if there is even one since no one has said Ranocchia should be a starter.
