This game kinda proves that Rano is performing not due to 3 men back line, but with competent partners. He played well with Bonnuci (2 CB) back then at Bari. I mean he is definitely not Skriniar or Lucio type that can just defend with pure talent and athleticism when the whole system goes south along with his partner just exposes him, but if you play him with players that do systematic defense, covering each other and the space correctly; he is a good defender definitely better than Acerbi for comparison.

Beautiful goal! Not only was the goal spectacular, but he was wearing the Captain's armband when he scored it.

I noticed on his Instagram that even Diego Milito was impressed by it.

Obligatory post about how he was a striker as a youth.

Still it's depressing that we had to play 120 minutes yet again, but at least Brozo got a rare rest.

If we could reach The Coppa Italia Final, I would like to see him playing and wearing the captain's armband. To have more dramatic effect then, we seal a dramatic 3-2 comeback over Milan after him scoring an acrobatic overhead kick for the last goal. He in the end lifts the tropy up in the sky in tears of joy.

It wasn't a tense 120 minutes tbh. The players didn't bust their ass like they did against Juve, and many of our starting players didn't play much or any at all.

Moreover, I saw a glimpse of complacency on our side which made it easier for Empoli to hurt us.

My apologies Frog for mistaking you with fucking Dzeko in the live thread. I have seen you missing a goal line chance so i could have never imagined you had this in you. Grazie Capitano!

He can play alongside Skriniar and Bastoni, but please, never field him again with DDA and DIM. I dont know what was worse yesterday, our midfield or defense trio.
I think it's more about the guy who was in front of him in midfield than his defensive partners. The presence of Brozo really helps him hide his weaknesses.

Beautiful, showed up when it was most needed and did it in gr8 fashion!

Rano is becoming a Materazzi kind of figure. Half spiritual leader. Half mascot. Looked rusty in defence but what a massive goal today!

This is the kind of dressing room that could win you treble. You have players who will never give up and will step up when called upon. Grande capitano.
Nicely put into words. Some italians surely age like fine wine!

Crucial goal. Earned another 1 year extension in my eyes.

Andrea Ranocchia is ‘so proud to play with these lads’ after his world-class strike took Inter to an extra time Coppa Italia win over Empoli.

The 33-year-old rarely plays and goals are even less frequent, yet he popped up with a spectacular acrobatic volley in stoppages to equalise 2-2 and force extra time.

“I am very happy above all that we qualified for the next round, as that was the main objective. Having scored a goal, I am even happier,” the captain on this night told Sport Mediaset.

“I try to always be ready when called upon, this is part of teamwork and we are a really solid group who prove that every time we step not the field. I am very pleased to be part of this team.

“I will keep going as long as they let me! I am so proud to play with these lads.”

Stefano Sensi came off the bench and scored the winner for 3-2 in extra time, despite the fact he wasn’t originally meant to be in the squad, as he is expected to join Sampdoria on loan tomorrow.

“Sensi is a splendid lad and also a really great player. Even with all the transfer rumours, he came on and put in a great performance. We all appreciate him here and I am happy for him.”

Today is Ranocchia's birthday.
But I'd like to discuss this weird phenomenon I've seen develop over the last couple of years, as far back as I can remember, this was a player that was commonly accepted to be plain and simple bad, well at least nowhere near the level required to play for our Inter, let alone be captain (which is something I'll never understand).
And everyone knew it, hence he was almost sold numerous times and the closest we got to him leaving was at Hull, but even they didn't want to keep him.
Yet, as the team progressed and started winning more, he somehow became silently more and more accepted and is now being revered (at least by a sizable portion of fans) as to being this great figure of Interismo and dedication to the colours.

Which is not what I see at all, I see a mediocre player that for years has been clinging on to an exuberant contract that nowhere else would give him, just to remain at a higher level for longer period of time.
To me he will always be that failed wonderkid that somehow pulled off a miracle in managing to stay at team that he's way underqualified to be in.
I will most certainly celebrate the day he's gone and never plays for us again.
That being said I do hope he has a good birthday and scores the winner tonight. lol

What an awful take on Ranocchia.

Ranocchia is here because he doesn't complain being a bench player. Doesn't shit his pants while playing for Inter. We need to remember not all players, even better than him technically and skill-wise, are able to do that. Doesn't take too much salary. Does know the club inside out with his history here.

Issue with Ranocchia when he arrived was he was suppose to be this great backbone of our defence, while the whole fucking club was heading downhill without any kind of environment to support Ranocchia's growth, with all the coach changes etc.

Was he a shitter for a good amount of his time here? Yep.

Is he still, or has he been since Conte arrived? Nope. Really solid and cheap bench option, with the added bonus of clearly being attached to the team and Milano.

Everyone also loves him in the dressing room.

I hope he stays another year. Happy birthday Froggy!

Yeah no wonder he doesn't complain, he's knows he's lucky to still be here, I wouldn't be complaining either if I was grossly overpaid to warm a bench for a year, and what you're saying about salary also isn't true he takes way too much money in relation to his contribution, which is and has been minimal for years.
I agree with your last part to be fair.

Andrea is a solid and loyal backup. He didn't make as a starter but as a backup he is great.

Have a good bday froggy 🐸
