German football has now an own Hall of Fame. The first inductees:

Keeper: Sepp Maier
Defenders: Paul Breitner, Franz Beckenbauer, Andreas Brehme
Midfielders: Fritz Walter, Lothar Matthäus, Matthias Sammer, Günter Netzer
Strikers: Helmut Rahn, Gerd Müller, Uwe Seeler

Not bad considering that defenders like Lahm, Berti Vogs and Jürgen Kohler (or midfielders like Thomas Häßler or Wolfgang Overath) didn't make it!

Why would Lahm make it over Brehme?

Kohler is indeed an important omission. Should be there over Helmut Rahn. I guess even the Germans make emotional decisions :D

Can't say that much has gone wrong with this list. They have a wide selection of course. I wonder how the Italian one would be like. The only two European nations that can probably fill up 4 excellent all time great lineups.

Sammer has also played at Inter by the way, although for one season only (1992/93)

Ah, true! I think he said something like he only came here for the money, wasn't happy and left already after a half year.

A former player from the DDR not happy in good old Italy? No wonder.

Why would Lahm make it over Brehme?

Didn't say he should make it over Brehme, but he was very consistent over a long time (I think he made it in every all star team of every big international tournament he played), led Germany as captain to the WC 2014 and Bayern as captain to the first German triple.

Oh, and in his late 20ties he finally learnt how to cross. :D

"He was the best player I played with. He could shoot with either foot. Normally he was a left defender, which means everybody thought he was left-footed, which he was, but he shot with his right foot many free kicks and penalties. And he wasn’t the fastest player, but he was the smartest. (Lothar Matthäus about Andreas Brehme)

Legendary former Inter defender Andreas Brehme has spoken about his time at Inter, and how playing for the Nerazzurri was the personal highlight of his career.

Speaking to World Football Index, the German defender paints a picture of playing for the Nerazzurri in the late 1980s and early 1990s as highly glamorous and as being the highest level of football at the time.

Brehme’s decorated career includes no shortage of important moments and prominent club, with the German having won the World Cup with his country in 1990 among other iconic moments.

This fact emphasizes how significant it is that the German feels that playing for the Nerazzurri in Serie A, where he won the Scudetto once during the 1988-89 season during a highly competitive period for the league, was the pinnacle.
Serie A in this time was like the Premier League of today,” Brehme stated, “All the best players went to Italy and the atmosphere and matches were incredible.”

The 60-year-old depicts an atmosphere of grand competition and spectacle which many fans of Italian football are still nostalgic despite the quality still in the league today.

Brehme also speaks of the technical and tactical side of his game having been improved by working with legendary head coach Giovanni Trappatoni while at the Nerazzurri.
I learned a lot from Trappatoni,” he stated, “and I guess the four years at Inter were the best years of my entire career.

Legendary former Inter wing-back Andreas @brehme1989 is glad to see Robin Gosens make the switch to his former team from Atalanta.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Footballnews24.it, the German expressed his pleasure at seeing his countryman Gosens in a Nerazzurri shirt and gave the view that he has everything to become a success at the club.

Gosens joins Inter as the first German at the club since Lukas Podolski joined on loan in 2015, and the 27-year-old will hope that he can have more success than the former Arsenal and Bayern Munich man.

The former Atalanta wing-back will look to the success that Brehme and other German players had with the Nerazzurri during the late 1980s, when they won a record-breaking Scudetto during the 1988-89 season.

Gosens has established himself as a regular starter with the German national team, and Brehme is pleased to have seen him make the move.

“It’s fantastic to have another player in the tradition of Germans at Inter,” he said. “Robin Gosens is an excellent player, he knows both Serie A and the San Siro very well thanks to his experience with Atalanta. He could be a great addition to the team.”

Brehme also gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s draw with Napoli over the weekend, stating that “This was certainly a very important point for Inter. I really liked the way the team played against Napoli .”

“When you’ve already won the Scudetto, you’re one of the best teams in Europe and you don’t need to hide,” he added.

“The team who win the league in Italy are usually among the top contenders in the Champions League as well,” he continued.

“Of course it won’t be easy to play against Liverpool,” he added, “but with the knockout rounds starting, we can now say that the competition is really beginning.”

Fun fact about @brehme1989 & Bremer! Read below

BREHME: ‘I TOLD LÖW ABOUT GOSENS…’

epa07478782 German former soccer player Andreas Brehme arrives for the opening gala of the 'Hall Of Fame' of German football in Dortmund, Germany, 01 April 2019. The Hall Of Fame will be part of the permanent exhibition in the German Football Museum, where players and coaches of men's and women's soccer of German origin will be honored for their outstanding achievements in shaping German soccer from 1900 until today. Andreas Brehme believes that Inter‘s victory at Anfield was the turning point in the Nerazzurri’s campaign and reveals he told Joachim Löw to keep a close eye on Robin Gosens.

The Germany international is expected to start his first game at Inter today against Spezia.
“He is ready and not from today,” his compatriot Brehme told La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.
“He wanted to start his first game earlier, but he had been recovering from an injury, so Inter waited for him and now they have an extra weapon for the final part of the season.”

Is it true that he told Löw to consider the former Atalanta star for the Germany national team?
“When Joachim and I meet in Sardinia, we talk almost entirely about football. Once I told him to keep an eye on Gosens, who was at Atalanta. After a few days of training, he understood that his friend Andy was right.”

Brehme hopes that both he and Perisic will be at Inter next season. The Croat’s contract runs out in the summer and there is still no agreement over a new deal with the Serie A giants.
“Ivan is proving to be fit as a 20-year-old player. He deserves to stay regardless of his age. I’d like an Inter with both Gosens and Perisic. Ivan could also play on the right or as a striker.”

When was Inter’s turning point? The win against Juventus?
“It was decisive, but Inter must win the next three games against Spezia, Roma and Bologna. If they do so, they will win the Scudetto. But the turning point was at Anfield. Winning against that team away was exceptional and made everyone understand that the real Inter was returning.”

What’s his take on Gleison Bremer? His father called him like that because of Brehmer…
“Now, I’ll look at him with different eyes,” the ex-midfielder said.
“For the moment, I can only say that his father is a smart man and someone who has an excellent knowledge of football.”
