Former Italy striker Antonio Cassano believes new Blucerchiati signing Stefano Sensi is ‘better than Jorginho and Marco Verratti.’

Sensi joined Sampdoria on loan from Inter in January and scored on his debut against Sassuolo on Sunday.

He had been struggling with injuries and game time at San Siro, so he decided to move to Marassi to get consistent playing time, hoping to return to the Italy national team soon.

Cassano, a Sampdoria legend and a former Italy striker, spoke about Sensi in an interview with Il Secolo XIX.

The 39-year-old admires Sensi so much that he believes he’s even better than Chelsea’s Jorginho or PSG’s Verratti. Both midfielders played a key role in Italy’s Euro 2020 win last summer.

“To me, Sensi is the best midfielder in Italy right now. He is a sensational footballer and he deserves a top club,” Cassano said.

“I think he is even better than [Manuel] Locatelli, Verratti or Jorginho. If I were Mancini, I wouldn’t think twice and I’d gamble on him. Sensi’s only weak point was his fitness.”

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, Cassano gave his thoughts on the transfer saga with Inter and Dybala, and questioned whether the Argentine was worth signing for a top club like Inter.

Inter had been strongly linked with a move for Dybala even before it was confirmed that he would be available on a free transfer as he would not be extending his contract with Juventus.

However, the Nerazzurri never pulled the trigger on a move for the 28-year-old, and in the end he finally made up his mind to join Roma instead.

Cassano feels that Inter made their decision not to sign Dybala, however, preferring to complete their attack with a return of Romelu Lukaku and then allowing a player with a similar profile to the Argentine leave in the form of Sanchez.

“Inter kept him on standby, and then took Lukaku and told him to find somewhere else,” he said of Dybala. “With all due respect, he went to Roma for only €5 million net per season when he was asking for €10 million. He’s not a phenomenon.”

“If he’s a phenomenon then why didn’t any top teams want him, not even Arsenal or Manchester United?” Cassano posed. “Inter were never really interested, they made a big show of it only to then sign Lukaku instead.”

“The Nerazzurri let Sanchez leave, who was better than Dybala,” he argued. “Milan preferred to wait two months to sign De Ketelaere, while he moved to a team that finished sixth last season, where he earns wages that are hardly astronomical.”

Antonio Cassano was by no means impressed with Inter’s victory over Milan and insists ‘the only chance Simone Inzaghi has to save his job is to win the Champions League.’

The Nerazzurri consolidated their status in second place, having already won the Supercoppa Italiana, after beating their arch-rivals 1-0 at San Siro on Sunday.

However, former Inter player and lifelong supporter Cassano has certainly not changed his mind on Inzaghi.

“The only chance Inzaghi has to save his job is to win the Champions League, otherwise Inter will be forced to make a change,” Cassano told Christian Vieri’s podcast BoboTV.

“Aside from the derby and the Supercoppa, he has not done well. Rather than being fired up, if I was in Inzaghi’s shoes, I’d be ashamed. I’d be at -13 from a Napoli side that is weaker than mine and has a sixth of the wage bill.

“He has to take a good look at himself. Last season it was a disaster calmed only by winning two trophies, but this time around those won’t save him again.”
