Started off playing atrocious, but settled down and kept after them until his tank was dry.

Conte probably thought Atalanta would press hard. So he instructed Handa to not pass the ball to Brozo as usual, but to Vidal. Obviously Vidal is not used to dribbling a ball out of his own half and almost lost the ball a few times. It was pretty shaky at the start

Hopefully this guy eats the bench or get subbed out 247 so he leaves during summer.

While I didn't particularly want Vidal here, I'm also not ecstatic that he is failing hard. But if there is a silver lining, maybe Conte can put his ego aside and do some serious self-introspection at the end of the season. Not everything has to be *his* way, not everything warrants drama, sometimes simple and obvious solutions do work out the best. If he can accept and own up to his mistakes, I think we can be a major force to be reckoned with next season in Europe.

If Vidal doesn't start the next game then he is already making steps in the right direction.

Do we have an option here? Coz if Vidal has a contract that runs through till 2022, there is no way we can get rid of him before (due to his wage, age and form).

There was a moment during the latter part of the first half where he made a kind of a blind backheel-volley pass to the left flank (intended for Perisic) that went right into Atalanta's player feet, and if I were a coach I would sub Vidal off immediately after seeing this cause this was atrociously careless. I have no idea how this pass could come across as a good idea to a player of Vidal's class (and paycheck), the level of complacency showed there was off the fucking charts, almost on the level of Balotelli's backheel shot in one of his first Man City's friendlies after which Mancini subbed him off.

He looked fucking gassed then! That was about 40th minute I think. He redeemed himself there because he came back and made a good tackle, but yes that was ridiculous. He looks very off the pace and unfit.

He should be first sub for midfielders and thats it. Eriksen is momentaly better in every aspect. Even in pressing and defending.

Yeah. If it is the lack of match fitness or something else, but Vidal is not starting material at this moment. It's visible how slow he is. And when you are slow, you are always a bit late, you are always in a hurry to do stuff you need to do. This was very visible against Atalanta, super aggressively pressing team. It's great this lackluster of a performance didn't cost us anything.

It’s too bad that Conte needed to have Vidal here to only realize what he had already was better.

I don't think he's physically at his best atm, but Conte needs to get him up to speed as soon as possible. Maybe let him play 30 minutes against Torino and then see how he progresses.

We have giving Vidal a 2 year contract with an option for a third season. Great deal.

If Inter decide to offload Vidal, and that's a big IF because of Conte, we could have a case similar to the one of Godin. I don't rule out a Vidal exit. He doesn't strike me as someone who will quietly accept a bench role.

I see Vidal as more of an impact player from here on. If he can find the form of last season, or even of January before his injury, he could be a useful impact player from the bench for us. His experience can help us in big games.

There is a reason why all top coaches like to get a player from their past, specially experienced champions. It helps in the locker room, building the kind of team spirit and mentality that the coach wants, getting their ideas through at training, etc. I think Mourinho mentioned this many years ago - the impact of such players is not just about what they do on the pitch, but also observed in the improvement in team spirit & mentality and how well the team represents the coaches ideas.

If we use that yardstick, our team spirit has certainly improved since Vidal joined, we are starting to get that winning mentality and our identity on the pitch represents Conte's ideas more than before. Not saying this is Vidal's doing, but who can say what kind of impact he has had off the pitch that we don't see? If the coach thinks it helps to have one of his guys in the locker room, then its worth it. Mancini had Stankovic at Inter, and Vieira at City and wanted Yaya Toure at his 2nd Inter stint for similar reasons. Its understandable.

Yeah that is true. As for specific names, Conte mentioned Kolarov. That even if Kolarov doesn't play too much, his presence in the locker room is very important.

yellow for Barella/Brozo against Torino and RG5 will be a starter against Sassuolo. Brilliant.
