We have only 4 useful midfielders. Gags and Vecino are pretty useless. We are lucky that Vidal is versatile enough to back up each of our 3 starting midfielders. Just for that, his high wages are justified IMO, even with his declining ability.

If we let Vidal go this summer, we will need to replace him and Vecino with 2 quality midfielders. It might make sense to just replace Vecino with a quality youngster with potential (Frattesi) and keep Vidal as backup for a final season.

I am pretty sure that’s a dig at his coach. And rightfully so. Why Inzaghi selected Vecino ahead of Vidal against Torino is absolutely beyond me.

Having said that, it is also good that Vidal has realised or understood that he needs to go elsewhere if he wants to play regularly next season.

Inter's policy of recycling veteran footballers with huge wages needs to change. Vidal finding another club would be a step in the right direction.

Here`s the interview

VIDAL: ‘I DREAM OF PLAYING FOR FLAMENGO, I HOPE TO SOON’

h_57534336.jpg

Arturo Vidal suggested that a move to Flamengo was on the cards following his upcoming departure from Inter.
The 34-year-old Chilean midfielder’s contract expires with the Nerazzurri at the end of this season and it will not be renewed, meaning that he’ll be available to join a new club on a free transfer. His performance in the 1-0 win over Liverpool showed that the former Bayern Munich man is still a classy midfielder on his day.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Vidal first detailed his admiration of Flamengo and his desire to join the Brazilian club one day.
“I like Flamengo a lot, the president’s gesture where he gave me a shirt as a gift filled my heart. I dream of playing there, I hope to do it very soon. When the management wants me to, I’ll do everything I can to go there.
“My European chapter could end, I don’t know if it’s the right time but if it does my next objective will be one, to win with Flamengo. The team is competitive, the best in South America.”

He gave his thoughts on Alexis Sanchez, who has been much criticised following his red card in the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
“I see that he’s well and happy. Yes, he is a lion in a cage, someone like him should play, to see him on the bench is difficult with all that he shows every time he goes on the pitch. But I don’t want to get involved in the coach’s decisions.”

The Chilean midfielder touched on his decision to die his hair white.
“I did it for a change, maybe with this hair the coach will see me a bit more as I haven’t played many games.”
Finally, Vidal discussed his future and his desire to become a coach.

“God willing, I’ll become the coach of the Chilean national team. I’m learning by watching a lot of football, I really like the 4-3-3. My goal is to coach a club team first and then Chile.”

Me too Arturo, me too.

He should have done it two seasons ago. Hope we can somehow skip paying 4m to him for contract termination.

What a fucking prick.

Our only decent midfield sub decides to take himself out of consideration— wonderful. This season is really shaping up to be some disaster at this rate.

I'm telling you it's 2019 all over again.

Maybe Marotta forces him to sit out an important Serie A game a la Radja...

Marotta will be more than happy to fine him and save on his wage. :einstein:

I`m pretty sure he is doing it deliberately, so that his current transfer market value of €2.5m is quashed.

According to FCInterNews, a couple clubs in the North American MLS have expressed an interest in him, while the midfielder’s agent has also received inquiries from Turkish sides Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor.

However, reading his statement to Chilean broadcaster TNT Sports, it`s pretty obvious he is heading towards Brazil: “My time in Europe could be coming to an end,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s time, but if it happens, my goal is very clear – to win everything with Flamengo, fighting for Libertadores, which is a dream because it’s like the Champions League in Europe.”

By saying this, Inter have no leverage in potential negotiations... so he wanted to make sure he can walk for free (just like when he joined, remember?).
Fellow Chile player Mauricio Isla is already at Flamengo with other bigger names, so he sure seems to have picked his destination.

Inter Midfielder Arturo Vidal: “My Time In European Football Could Come To An End Soon”

* According to L’Interista.it, the Nerazzurri have already made it clear that they do not have any intention of retaining any chilean player. Neither striker Sanchez nor midfielder Vidal have any place in coach Simone Inzaghi’s plans going forward. The Chile international teammates are entering the final months of their Inter careers and will be allowed to find new clubs at the end of the season.

I wouldn't be bothered too much with these comments, ofc the board and the coach have to fine the player and show their authority. But I don't think this will have any impact on team, he was gone even before this interview. Hopefully along with Vecino and Gagliardinho.

Vecino for sure, but cannot say that for Gagliardini yet.

Bit of an overreaction huh. The guy is almost 35 and is going to leave anyway. If he said he wanted to go back to Juve, then surely we should feel pissed off, but we’re talking about a team on another continent here.

The team being on another continent is not the point. He is presently contracted to and employed by Inter.

His comments indicate that he is not thinking about the task at hand, namely trying to win a Scudetto. But is now thinking about his next career move whilst at the same undermining and questioning Inzaghi's decision making.

It goes without saying that we do not need this kind of distraction at this point in the season.

I will be happy if both Vidal and Sanchez are moved on during the summer.

Sorry, but the "distraction" came from within. Less than 3 months ago it became clear to some players that they have no future here. Remarkably, that also coincided with the drop in form and the bad reactions in big games...

This coming in the media is not a distraction, it's probably the opposite of that.

I'm afraid the fine is necessary this time.

Inzaghi is respected in the team and this has been confirmed by several players. Alexis' comment (i.e., caged lion) or Perisic's Instagram story (i.e., 'they say I am too old') might just be a self-brag. But Vidal directly provoked the coach in media. That is unacceptable. And frankly, nobody in the team hangs out much with him apart from Vecino. He's like this bully at school who thinks he's too cool for everything but secretly despised by all his peers.

I mean look at Vidal's Instagram. He's like a semi-retired player. Commenting on horse race, meat grill and his ridiculous Fiat Panda 24/7. I'm not saying players can't share their private life. But compare that to what D'ambrosio or De Vrij shares. Vidal is basically telling everyone "I have won everything. I don't need to prove myself anymore. If you need me let me know. If not I'll just do whatever I want."

Look - Kolarov knows his place in the team and he kept his mouth shut. I'd even say Vecino did a better job than Vidal on this front. If we don't fine Vidal this time, then what? Cordaz calling up Gazzetta and complain about not getting a chance when Handa was playing like shit?
