We've been dying for some long-term strategy at this club for the last decade.

While I don't necessarily agree with everything that Marotta has done and is doing, and would, on balance, sign Vidal, I won't whine if we don't end up signing him because he doesn't fit our long-term strategy.

Yeah I feel the same. Vidal is the best shot for Scudetto race. A race which is pretty unique for us given our near-history banter era time. I've said this before that this Scudetto "opportunity" came a year too early, if you can say that. It was not probably planned as realistic that we have a shot at Scudetto (real shot) already this season.

Plan was probably to establish a great core this season with the young players, accompanied with some vets giving their input to the growth of the youngers. Then summer 2020 add reinforcements to give Juve the fight of the lives for the Scudetto. Yes, we are not giving the fight of Juve's life for Scudetto now but we are there fighting. This opportunity arrived because Juve is weaker than normal with the coach change and a bit uncertain future (forced to sell at some point anyway given they cannot raise their revenues fast enough).

So Vidal would be this "one chance one opportunity" kind of signing, one could think. But in reality, our plan is to be at Juve's place in the future so this shouldn't be one chance stuff. We should have these chances in the near-future too given Suning can raise our profits enough.

It's a tough spot for our management for sure because then there's this loose cannon in Conte who obviously wants to win every match his team takes place and doesn't accept defeats. I'd be fine with either Vidal or Eriksen knowing that the latter won't give same immediate impact Vidal would.

On the other hand, as a counter argument, Vidal is like having another Barella in the team - one with a better finished product. He would have an immediate impact (already worked well in Serie A and with Conte). And his cost is not that high, 20m is very little and 6-7m wage is affordable to Inter now.

If we are buying some players to make Conte happy, I much rather it be Vidal than Young+Giroud.

so tired of the constant vidal bullshit - guy is not coming. He jerks us around all the time... and barca have little to no incentive to actually sell him to us. He has actually been really good for them and they aren't obsessed with cost.

He isn't coming - its just one of those lucas/lavezzi style constant linkages.

Romano is saying Valverde is getting sacked, so lets see it that helps us get Vidal.

Honestly i doubt Vidal is the type of player that suits Setien style of possesion football, i'm pretty sure Setien will play with 4 midfielders and with Messi as false 9. So Barcelona will probably buy another midfielder even with Vidal staying.
Busquets-Rakitic-De Jong
Probably they will steal Eriksen from us and buy him now.
Then messi and grizz in the attack.

That would be a horror show. Barca pay 20m and get Eriksen while Vidal is happy with the new coach

So well, the chances are slim now I guess. Barca has a new coach and as even Marotta had already said earlier - things could be different with a new coach. Done and dusted I suppose. If so, let's move on !!

It's not done yet I believe, but it looks grim at the moment. Guess we're still waiting for confirmations by Barcelona that he's simply not available and you (Marotta) need to move on. I feel that hasn't been said yet because Barcelona also needs to make money and their management is probably thinking hard how to do it. Now is the time to make money with Vidal sale, six months from now and it's not possible anymore. On the other hand they need Vidal so it's tricky for them.

N Golazo Kante on the other hand doe !!!!!:datass:

Been reading some of these rumours on some groups online and I think this could be the real deal since he has worked with Conte.Reports out of Slovakian media seem confident.:slick:

Kante may be great as a bench option.

kante is better than all of our midfielders.

Let's disagree on that. I think Kante will be very helpful if we have to move to a 343 formation, where he should be the first choice. But in 352, Sensi-Brozovic-Barella is currently our best midfield.

Puig trained with Setien & 1st team yesterday and will not be called up for the B team on the weekend, continuing to stay with the 1st team - a sign that perhaps Vidal's chances to leave in the winter window have improved. We'll see

Update: DiMarzio claims Vidal transfer talks are dead for the winter with Valverde out.

Upon further reflection the injury to Suarez probably has an impact too so I have no issue with this approach

Rakitic and Bernardeschi swap in the making. So this means no Vidal for Inter
