congrats to korea..

they managed to not score for over 6 hours or something, have 1 lucky win against Indonesia, and still finished 3rd..

I guess no team ever finishing 3rd was as pathetic as them..

hamoudi, ziyad, khalifa...what does "khalass" mean in footballing context?
I watched asian cup on Dubai Sports and the commentator said mainly allah, muhammad, salamati or khalass..

now I understood most of the other stuff, but khalass in persian is either neutral when you drive or "let go"..what does it mean in football though?

btw. the dubai sports commentators are great..at least if you don't understand arabic. They are pretty emotional, unlike the iranian ones.

Iraq wins 1-0...which was well deserved. saudi's never came close to their previous performances..

congrats to iraq...

the circle closes itself..remember 7 years ago this iraqi team winning the u-19 asian cup in tehran. now they have won the big one..

Anyways this was a great final...

Congrats Iraq and hardluck Saudi.

The Iraqi's really didnt stop attacking since the first minute it was really wierd to see that...I mean the whole time they werent interested in keeping the ball or anything it was all attack attack attack.

Saudi didnt show up or maybe they were rattled by the constant pressure by Iraq.Their defenders and midfielders couldnt build anything up because of that..It also seems that the Saudi's were under lots of pressure because many of their players made stupid mistakes we arent used to from them from the begining of the game..

Hamoodi, this goalie cost you the cup. He maybe great on his reflexes, but from game one he looked terrible on his decisions to come out.

Iraq winning is nothing but the perfect ending. It was destiny and faith and this is the least they deserve....not until i had to call the cops to come and do something about the blocked roads...they started acting like they were in fallojah

Lethargic performance by Saudi to say the least, it was awful to see, there was no will or hunger to win whatsoever. I have absolutely no idea what happened in this game!!!

I am glad it was Iraq that won it since the people really deserve it specially after what the people are going through. They finished 4th in the Olympics few years ago and I didn't know that they won the U-19 in Iran few years before that. I guess they do have a great solid base, and their star players, Akram and Younis are 22 and 23 or so respectively.

And Khalifa, the goalie performed two great saves, but it's true that his timing on the ball was bad. But most of the goals Saudi conceded were off dead-balls, I guess Monteshri should have been there.

And yes, some Iraqi's made our neighbourhood in Ottawa feel like Fallujah or something. Iraqi songs 24/7 and going on cars and honking, lol, it was a 24/7 reminder off the loss, thank god I am back to an iraqi-less town now :D

Mehdi, Khalaas means like 'enough' or just like you described it, but there is also Khellas which means 'get rid of' or so, and I think that might be used more in soccer since it means to clear the ball away etc.

And true that Dubai got good commentating, I used to watch football only on their channel long time ago. At least they are good at something :p

Race win for UAE national

Wed 17 Jan, 2007 1:23 AM GMT

DENVER, 17 July (AP) - UAE national Jamal Al Sweihan has become the first Arab to win the World Speed-SMS Championship in Denver, Colorado.

Al Sweihan beat contestants from thirty other countries in to write and send an SMS message in just 4.6 seconds while driving at 220kmph.

He narrowly missed out on a gold in the slalom event after receiving a two-second penalty for abbreviating "you're" to "ur".

The Abu Dhabi resident puts his success down to regular training sessions.

"I train for two hours each day, up and down Sheikh Zayed highway, I send maybe three hundred messages during this time," Al Sweihan said.

"But in the UAE it is more difficult because you must have one hand free to flash the headlights at the car in front, but in the race you can have both hands on the phone."

Al Sweihan's next challenge will be next month's International MMS Rally in Kuala Lumpur.
