h2hal: you're right about Japan not being the strongest, but how many strong teams are in Asia? :D

1-Australia.
2-South Korea.
3-Iran.
4-Saudi Arabia.
5-Japan.

??

Bahrain and Qatar are improving.. China aren't that good.. Kuwait lost their golden generation.. lebanon only cares about basketball.. :p

there aren't many good teams in Asia anyway.. I think the cup will be in Australia at the end..

World Cup was World Cup, Hiddink was Hiddink, Osim is Osim...therefore Asian Cup is a whole different ball game. ;)

Again??? I thought the issues are settled for now and last time I checked, the squad was pretty balanced with players from Ittihad, Hilal and Shabab more or less brotherly shared. I thought that the team was pretty broad and the players from Hilal that played, really deserved to.

Well, right now, most of the players are good both technically and professionally. Most of the problem in the past was with Hilal players, but right now, Kahtani and Shelhoub (two main Hilal players) are great guys that don't cause any frictions etc. The problem is now between clubs' management and the federation.

I really hope that everything is solved and interference from big-shots is absent. Like I said, if you base it solely on players, this crop is really good and more harmonious than before.

But last time I checked, Bahrein waived the Saudi flag after beating Iran ;), so no matter how much they love to beat Saudi, they sure as hell love more to beat Iran and if we play them in the second round, it should be one hell of a game.

I bet that 99% of those that waived the Saudi flag were Saudis. Bahrain is like 30 min away from two major Saudi cities, you can just drive there over the bridge.

But you got a point, Bahrain may like to beat Iran more. I think there is alot of rivalry in the area, Saudi would love to beat Iran more than Bahrain, but I think that's because Iran is the better team. In any case, Saudi-Iran games are always great, I really miss those games of the 80's.

Indeed...I don't know about defense, but in offense and midfield Saudi Arabia really seems to boast a very strong team, one of the strongest in recent times. All I know is that they won't have a fiasco like last time, but yeah..Kahtani, Nour, Ameen etc. they are really great to watch.
They might not have the standout names Iran has, but what they definetly got is some sort of winning attitude, specially against other arab teams(I have once told you my theory about Muhammad(pbuh), Saudis, descendants of him -> hence arab teams believing they are superior and beating them is a sin ;) )
But seriously...the only other Arab team I remember beating you was generally Iraq, otherwise your record is almost perfect against other Arab teams.

Well, it was actually the whole team :) but bahrein is really interesting. It belonged to Iran until some time ago and a lot of Bahrainis from what I know even can speak Persian(Ziyad should know better).

But anyway...I really look forward to Bahrain games, because usually in those games you see the best from Mahdavikia. :)
He once even told the story...Bahrain played against HSV a friendly and I think Talal Yusef used to call him all types of names and made fun of him because of the defeat of Iran. Mehdi told him that when they meet in Asia, he will have his number. Ever since then, you see him tackle, run, shoot, pass and play like a raging bull whenever we play Bahrain. Those games are always a joy to watch. That Iran-Bahrain game in Asian Cup 2004 is one of the best games I have seen from Iran in the past years...they played as if they were playing the world cup final.

Yes ur right i know better ;) Yes also lots of people from Bahrain have Farsi origins and can speak Farsi, but in no way was Bahrain ever apart of Iran, despite the misconception that lots of Iranians have..

I think we share some mythological history when it comes to Gilgamish coming here but thats about it..Bahrain was a British colony before having independence and was once a Porteguese one too, they still have ancient forts here..

Anyways I think becuase of the background my favorite games are against Saudi ( which i luv to beat) then Kuwait on the Gulf level, because of all the friends I have in both really..

Ofcourse on the Asian level its got to be Iran after that, ever since the 3-0 defeat and it was ON :D . I think the Iranian side couldnt believe that a powerhouse like them would be beaten like that by us the David of Asia.Since then they hated seeing us and wanted revenge, which makes those games more interesting..

I have to say though,as much as i hate those teams when we face them,I cheer for them at every game whether in Asia or World CUp :)

maybe you know better, but from what I had heard and known, but between Portuguese and Brits it was Iran somehow involved.

But anyway... :)

Yes..the 3-1 really hurt a lot of people. What was even worse was that people were blaming the way Bahrain played and came with conspiracy theories, instead of blaming the pathetic performance of our players and the fact that they went partying the night before.
The team went to Bahrain for about 1 week and it was obvious that after some time the players got bored and went partying. ;)

God bless Kahtani :boogy: A double against Bahrain (2-1.)

BTW Ziyad, what is with Mohammed Hussein? Does he really hate Saudi that much? I read that he was red-carded and he always plays rough against Saudi.

I remember him back when he played in Saudi league and he was a good player. But then he pulled some antics against Saudi in an NT game and they chased him out of the league.

I hope that at least he is still a good player!

The conditions will be our biggest rival.:D

First of ALL Congrats ...Well deserved 3 points.

Now let me rant...Mohammed Hussain is the dumbest of the dumb.I have no idea why he is ever picked for the NT.This is the same guy who gifted Oman in the last GC a clearance which came in the form of a perfect pass to the Omani player begging him to score resulting in us losing.

Its the same guy whose arrogance almost cost us the qualfication to the Asian cup and allowed Kuwait to score their goal..

This is the same guy who had a great shot on target but ON HIS OWN GOALIE !!!!!:scream:

How can an imbicile like him still get picked perplexes the living hell out of me..

As if he wasnt a curse on our pathetic team already he chose to go at it again. As if he hasnt done enough damage,he was out to get his own NT AGAIN..

First his clearances were once again better than any pass he made but they were passes to the Saudi players infront of goal.

That wasnt enough he almost cleared the ball into our own goal when he was all alone and could have shot anywhere..

He then caused his stupid penalty because of stupid positioning and then a stupid foul.He then gets a yellow card.

In his own simple mind yellow cards seem not to mean much so he makes one of the stupidist tackles from behind against a player in the half line already surrounded by two Bahraini players !!!

If that wasnt enough he gets a yellow card then has the audacity to pretend that he didnt get one earlier, resulting in a red.He gets upset and turns into a drama queen that doesnt want to leave and somehow thinks he will make things better by heading to the ref( still dont know if he wanted to talk him out of the red card or beat him out of that decision)

Pure dumbass,I really hope we never see that ass again playing...Not for my sake but for Bahrain and the football world.

Well we qualfied to the second stage today in the gulf cup in style..We had to beat Qatar and wait for Saudi to beat Iraq.We scored the winning goal in the 90+ minutes after wasting chances right and left.

Iran's "B"-team got humiliated against Mexico with 4-0

Anyway...I stand by my prediction: It's Japan, South Korea or maybe, depending how things turn, KSA but Osim and Nakamura are my reasons for Japan.
