Disappointing but we didn't need a result in this game to qualify, and ultimately our team selection reflected that decision
But we will now maybe need against Monaco. If we beat Sparta of course.
Considering a more important match this weekend, yeah

As long as we get a win in the next two CL games it basically doesn't matter. It always sucks getting a loss, of course, but if we had to lose one of these two games I'd much rather this one than Lazio
Lazio is on Monday. 5 full days off.

No excuse for not trying here.

And I'm not blaming Inzaghi for rotations at the beginning of the match,I'm blaming him for how obvious it was during the match that we just don't care. Taking Thuram and Hakan out is Sociedad all over again.

Don't have one.
when you don't try to win you deserve to lose. a performance alegri would be proud of.
I still think this type of football is our best bet to do something in cl. We obviously have to be more attacking minded and active, but yeah we ain't gonna go far in cl with our super attractive and open football we are playing in seria a.

Top teams in cl are full of pacey players, one lost ball, and you have darmian, augusto, bastoni , acerbi, de vrij pick almost whoever from our team chasing down some midget fuck like frimpong, and you are already behind. Balance needs to be found though, coz this shit tonight was way too passive.

No we can't be out of top8 tomorrow. Dortmund-barca and Arsenal-monaco play directly. We won't drop below 7. place.

Hardly the first awful CL performance, Inzaghis luck finally ran out.

As awful a performance as could predicted from the awful lineup.

This is the quality of the team with that many backups though, so its not surprising we looked like a conference league level team.

You simply cant throw in 6 backups and expect to get anything the match, its just too much. Especially when 2 of them are Darmian and Augusto who offers nothing offensively, Taremi who is a joke player and frattesi who's low football IQ does more harm than good most of the time.

Gotta appreciate the irony in Marrotta claiming Inter are among the favourites to win the CL (ridiculous thing to say in the first place) before the game and then we got that sh*tshow.

From the picture it doesn't look like offside

The good thing is that they only scored one goal

Refs was shit all game but, 0 shot on target, pathetic from us.

0 shot on target while your goal was to NOT lose, is not a big deal, but once you're going all in for a win, and yet never attempt on goal, that's pathetic.

Fuck Taremi I am hopping on the hate train now
He's a stop-gap. Like most of our subs. None of them can play to the required standard which is why we are fucked when we cannot play our starting eleven.

There is a difference between defensive football and whatever this was. We offered nothing offensively, didn't even try. You can be defensive but when you have the ball you need to try and attack. We passed the ball side to side and back with no intent to do anything offensively.

I have no issue with a defensive gameplan provided we still offer something offensively.

The irony if we finish 9th and have to play playoffs with Hakan/Barella/Dimarco injured, no?

Firstly I don't really get that this was a significantly weakened team. I'd argue that Bisseck has been a slight upgrade on Pavard this season and De Vrij is surely first-choice in the middle of defence now. Frattesi for Barella is an undoubted downgrade, but up front there's not much difference between Taremi and Lautaro who seem to both offer not much more than a solid defensive shift.

Secondly I thought Inter got exactly what they deserved and, even though the win came late, Leverkusen deserved it for at least trying to playing some enterprising football. I get why Inzaghi started with his more defensive wing-backs to counter the Germans' excellent wide play, but if you are going with Darmian and Carlos Augusto then you are accepting you are not getting any attacking width. That puts the emphasis on Zielinski and Frattesi to try to build the play, but neither made any impression whatsoever. I am tiring fast of Frattesi who, literally every time I see him, runs a lot without ever managing to encounter the ball. If such stats exist I would love to know how many touches of the ball he typically has per 90 minutes. So while Thuram and Taremi were both poor, to be fair to them they had nothing to work with.

Another issue I have is how any team that presses Inter can get good returns from it as they are really, really poor at being able to break out of this. It's the same every time: a few passes between the central defenders, a ball to one of the wing backs who is quickly closed down and hits a blind ball forward towards strikers who are not good at holding up the ball even if it was put anywhere near them. Possession is lost and the play comes straight back at them. We saw that last night, the entirety of the Arsenal game and for the last half hour against Leipzig when they were chasing an equaliser. I think the general lack of intensive pressing in Serie A is why we see quite different performances.

It's been a weird European campaign and after every game I'm increasingly convinced we will drift out of the competition again at the round of 16 stage because we cannot create and / or score enough. We created literally nothing against Arsenal, Leipzig and Leverkusen and next to nothing against Man City and Young Boys. Even the Red Star result was flattering because they imploded thanks to individual errors that even Inter's limp attack could not fail to take advantage of.

So 16 pts is no longer enough for top 8. As I recall everyone claimed that thats enough. But now we need two wins? Did I miss something or what?

It was absurd. IMO we were scared to play the ball into central areas around the box or tight areas where one-touch football was needed cos either
a. They didnt trust the foward players enough
b. They were scared of being cut to pieces on the counter if they lost possession
c. They were playing for a draw/to not lose
d. All of the above.

Either way it made us look pedestrian, scared and it was a non-performance. I dont think it suited the players mentality either.
We deserved to lose.
Inzaghi has to carry the can for this one but i still think we'll qualify.
Fuck Europe tho i want the Scudetto again.
