people can turn us down, we can be outbid, we can disagree to meet the valuation of a player, all of those things are normal in any mercato. Being betrayed by Lukaku, or having Samardzic change his mind after the transfer is agreed and medical is done, are not normal mercato things.

Agreed but there are no guarantees Pavard will wait for us and he will likely have better offers on the table next summer. It makes sense for someone in our situation to buy a promising young defender now and get Pavard on a free, but it’s far from a given that it could happen that way. The player wants to move now and we should do everything to make it happen now if we can.

If he stays in Germany for one more season and leaves on a free then there will be a lot more interest for his signature. EPL clubs, PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid could be interested. Even Juve could make a move for Pavard next summer. It isn't a given he will join Inter next summer.

Yeah. I view this the same way I view Scamacca. The player wants out of his current situation at all costs and will accept whatever move materializes first. If Milan or Atletico made a bid for Pavard tomorrow that Bayern accepted, he would be gone.

Yes at the moment because he is so eager to leave. Who knows what can happen next year... if EPL clubs or Barca/Real knocks on his door (not bayerns) he will ofcourse choose any 1 of them rather than inter.
