Pavard was great tonight. The issue with Skriniar was he was a great defender with great positioning but any player with an ounce of pace DUSTED him. Leao killed him every game they played. To the point his injury was a blessing in disguise because Darmian fit in perfectly as a replacement.

If i remember correctly Skriniar pocketed Leao in most of derbies and he rarely had an issue facing pacey wingers. Even prime Coutinho and Kvara couldn't do anything.

Tbf he didn't get many chances after the back injury. He did make one mistake in the UCL last year after the injury then he was forever dropped unfairly.

Slightly bemused as to why people on one hand suggest he should be offering Inter more than he is and yet simultaneously bemoan him being dropped from the French squad for likely those exact reasons. No other nation in the world has as many quality options all over the pitch to choose from and Deschamps prefers four at the back. Pavard does not like playing as a conventional right-back and he is no way close to secure enough as a standard central defender.
