Beppe Marotta: “I’m Inter Milan President To Reach The Highest Level”

Marotta opened up about what the title of President of Inter means to him.
“Having the role of President of Inter is a source of enormous honour for me,” said the 67-year-old.

“It’s a repayment for all the sacrifices I’ve made throughout my entire career,” Marotta said.

“The first thing for me has always been to try and bring Inter to winning ways.”

Marotta also gave his thoughts on how he compares to legendary former Inter Presidents Angelo and Massimo Moratti.
“I’m not comparable to the Morattis,” said the current Nerazzurri President. Or to the Fraizzolis or the Pellegrinis.”

“But I’m a person who loves football, and loves Inter,” Marotta said.
Did he ever say that he loves Sampdoria / Rubentus?

This guy is a businessman, he can care less for juve, or Inter, those guys have no loyalty to nothing expect where they making the more money. I’m not a bit worried about his juve past, it’s what he’s gonna do from now on, that I’d judge him.
Reading this post from 2018 now... Things must have changed in Marotta's heart after joining the bright side (Inter family) ❤️

“So I hope I can give something back to the club. Something to be proud of, like the club has enjoyed in past years under previous Presidents.” - Don Beppe
Good luck!

Does it matter? Conte didn't love Inter but he still won us a Scudetto.

Giaccherini was a huge Inter fan but he never said anything about Inter after joining Juventus. If love meant anything in football, he would never have joined Juventus, no matter what his club wanted. Football doesn't work like that, players can only choose to stay in his club or join the club that satisfies with the offer to his current club. If he thought his career needed a bigger step, this was probably it.

Honestly that's news to me. I didn't know that.

He's a professional and, tbh, he's doing some of the best work in his entire career here. Loving inter doesn't mean he has to have been an inter fan historically or anything, but he's doing great stuff at a place he's happy.

Honestly that's news to me. I didn't know that.
In the paper edition of today’s Il Giorno newspaper, Emmanuel Giaccherini has spoken fondly on former manager and current Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“I owe him everything. He is a manager who puts himself in the front row at war, gives you great confidence, brings out the best and even more in you. You just have to look at the difference he is making on Stefano Sensi, Nicolo Barella and Antonio Candreva at Inter,” he said.

“Conte is a true professional and seeing him at Inter does not make me feel all that strange. In fact, I am happy for him. He is among the best managers in the world. When I went to Juventus, everyone knew I was an Inter fan and now that I’m playing outside of Serie A, I have gained some of my fandom back for Inter especially because Conte is there.”

also there is this

“I love being here at Cesena”, he told Gazzetta dello Sport in October 2010, “but I’m an Interista. If they called me and asked me to be back-up for Eto’o I’d go there running - and then I’d try and convince them to play me alongside him.”

Three months later he went even further, when appearing on Sky Italy’s Mondo Gol program: “My dream is to play for Inter one day: how many times I went to San Siro as a child to watch them play. Scoring at San Siro was an incredible feeling [Giaccherini scored against Inter that season when Cesena lost 3-2, before being sent off], but as an Interista I enjoyed it more when I scored against Milan at the start of the season (!).”

Amongst his other comments that season were “if I could go to Inter it would be a dream come true” (January), “I’ve always adored Ronaldo” (June) and “it would be a dream to sign for Inter, I support Inter” (July) - but then Antonio Conte came calling and he signed for Juventus instead. And suddenly he found himself in an awkward spot.

“I’ve always said I was sympathetic to Inter”, he said in his introductory press conference in September 2011, “but that’s normal. Now I’ve become a professional footballer, my soft spot for Inter was just when I was younger. I used to support Inter, but now I’ll play against them and do everything I can to beat them.”

Next he was asked about being born on 5 May (what a day for an Inter supporter to have their birthday, goodness me...): “I remember 5 May 2002 well. I turned 16 that day and my birthday was a bit... [horrific?] but still, perhaps it was written in the stars I’d come to Juve. At this moment in time Inter don’t interest me.”

Half of Cesena is Interisti anyway

As for Marotta, he's from Varese. It wouldn't surprise me if his dad was an Inter fan or if he grew up liking the team or at least going to the stadium every now and then.

Lots of people from his generation just attended either Inter or Milan games and had a soft spot for either side. Imagine that by the time he started watching kicking a ball (say 6-7) and turned 13, both Inter and Milan managed to win 2 European Cups each. It's hard being a young kid from Lombardia that likes football and not developing some sort of feeling for both or either team.

Was about to say that my dads from close by and all my relatives from there are either interistas or bbilanistas...
Though he might also have been a varese fan they were decent when he was a teenager a couple of serie B titles and a couple of seasons in serie A also he started working for them at 21....

Marotta is a Varese fan. He has said it countless times. He just feels appreciated at Inter, he feels honored to be president of the club so it's only normal to get attached to the club.

Fiorentina officially signed Gudmundsson yesterday and had been linked with Inter for months, so did they feel that they missed out on the Iceland international?
“In all honesty, that was more of a media situation. We looked into it, but never went further really because we have players who can give us guarantees. It never progressed beyond that,” Marotta told DAZN.

Marotta outlines Inter ideas.
“We are looking for a Bisseck-style player, both in terms of his characteristics, but also his age and value. We are evaluating a very valid young prospect, we’re working on it and know there are still 15 days left in the transfer window.

“The squad is missing a few players today, but is still a respectable team and we face this season fully aware we have a competitive group.

“We outlined the profile of the player we are looking for.”

Inter won the Scudetto last season, but who does Marotta see as their main rivals for the title this time around?
“Juventus and Napoli are works in progress, Milan are perhaps more solidified and can be accredited to challenge. The transfer market is not over yet, so it is too early to say, but these usual teams, and I would add Atalanta and Roma too, are the ones who will fight for the Scudetto.”

Sounds like Palacios and that's it.

He said we’re missing a few players. So perhaps there’s one more move.

However, he may be speaking a bout Buchanan.

Marotta: ‘Inter ambition in Champions League is not arrogance’

Beppe Marotta confirms they want to go all the way in the Champions League, but ‘we must not mistake arrogance for ambition’ as they take on Manchester City and Arsenal.

The draw for the new format of the 2024-25 Champions League was completed this evening at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

The Nerazzurri will take on RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Crvena Zvezda and Monaco at home, with Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Young Boys and Sparta Prague away.

All the results go into a single 36-team giant league table with the top eight going directly into the next phase, then play-offs for the mid-table sides.
“The format is completely new and very fascinating. It’s a very different sense of adrenaline, we don’t know the fixture list yet, but the important thing is to be ready when it begins. We hope for a bit of luck with injuries and suspensions,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.
Inter won the Scudetto last season, having reached the Champions League Final the year before, so did they choose between the tournaments?

“This squad has grown a lot over the last few years, in Italy but above all in the Champions League. It’s true that the second star in Serie A represented an important achievement for the club, but we do not choose between the Scudetto and Champions League. We try to go all the way in both and hope circumstances are favourable for us.

“We have given Simone Inzaghi a competitive squad, but we don’t want to put anxiety onto Inter, just the right level of pressure for an important club like Inter.”
A tough Champions League set of games for Inter
Would Marotta prefer Inter to start with Manchester City or Arsenal, or rather to have a softer beginning to the competition?

“I have noticed that the clubs with many international players have struggled to start with, so facing a bigger opponent early might be difficult, but the smaller sides have their own specific difficulties too. We must never underestimate the teams in Pot 3 or 4. The Champions League is very different to the regular league campaign.”
Inter were the only Italian club in Pot 1 of the draw, so are they to be considered among the favourites?
“The media put us among the favourites! We do not hide ourselves, we always said that our objective was to finish in the top eight of the table. Inzaghi might not agree with me, but what might seem like dreams at the start are more than that.

“We must not mistake arrogance or presumptuousness for ambition. It is important to have ambition and the desire to honour our history. We will give our best, if the others do better, we tip our hats to them and try to analyse what happened,” concluded Marotta.
Good luck!

I would like to see Bisseck play against Bayer Leverkusen. I want him to get experience against a team that NEVER yields.

Marotta praises Atalanta and insists they can ‘no longer be considered outsiders in Italy or Europe,’ while the Nerazzurri need to show even more motivation than last year.
“Atalanta are no longer to be considered outsiders, but a protagonist in all competitions, both in Italy and at European level,” Marotta told DAZN.

“I am happy to be facing a team like this, it’s an important test for us, even if it is still early days in the season. I was fortunate to have been a director at Atalanta, so I appreciated the quality and the way they interpret their history.

“Since the Percassi family took charge, they have reached the highest level thanks also to a very smart coach like Gian Piero Gasperini.

“Combining the coach, a squad and club has allowed Atalanta to become a reality of our football and that of Europe too.”

About this new season:
“Winning is difficult, but repeating that victory is even tougher. Mentality counts for a lot and every match will be more difficult than it was last season, the opponents will have extra motivation and therefore we must too,” added Marotta.

“We are a solid group behind the scenes, I have excellent collaborators like Ausilio, Baccin and vice president Zanetti, along with Simone Inzaghi and his staff. All this can allow us to face the challenges of the new season.”
Wise words as always

Marotta trusts Inter can triumph

and Haaland close call at 15

The last time these teams met was in Istanbul for the 2023 Champions League Final, where missed opportunities were the cause of much regret, capitulating to a lone Rodri goal. Did Inter or Marotta rewatch that game to prepare for this one?
“No, that is part of the past,” the President told Sky Sport Italia and Amazon Prime Video Italia.
“We learned the right lessons from that defeat. The context is different today, we are in front of their home crowd, it is the opening game of the season in this new format. We must face City with the right strength of character.
The team is more mature now, we have since won the Scudetto.”
Time to show it

Does that mean Marotta believes Inter can win the Champions League?
“Yes.”
:Belieber:

Simone Inzaghi surprised many by leaving Lautaro Martinez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the bench this evening, starting Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski, who both arrived as free agents this summer.

“Games last 95-100 minutes nowadays, so who better than Inzaghi can make these decisions? These are evaluations that the coach has to make based on tactical and physical considerations.

“Let’s not forget that Lautaro played the whole Copa America with Argentina this summer and then went on international duty again. We have a very competitive squad, it should not be news if one or another player is starting.”
Not a surprise at all. I would dare to say Lautaro should have been rested already by now.

The danger man for Manchester City is Haaland, but Marotta again confirmed he had been close to signing the Norway international for Juventus many years ago.

“It’s true, he was suggested to us when he was still in Norway. He was only 15 years old and we invited him to attend Juventus-Inter. We were very close, then some red tape issues got in the way.”
So glad this didn't go through!

It has been a tricky start to the season for Inter, who played two home wins in Serie A and two away draws in Genoa and Monza.

“We managers have been able to work well over the years, building a competitive squad with the current and former club owners. That is satisfying.” - Don Beppe
It feels like we're one top finisher away from a CL winning club.
