Yeah, even one year extension to 2023 would be crucial. If we he can steer this ship to some reasonable direction, then someone else, some competent Italian director can take it from there.

They haven't signed yet but they've been offered 2-year extensions. Much more important extensions than Lautaro's (I mentioned only Toro because Barella has a contract till 2024).

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that he will be signing a new deal with the club and continuing in his role, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

In quotes aired on television moments ago by Telelombardia, Beppe Marotta made it clear that he will be signing the two-year extension that president Steven Zhang has offered to him and three other Inter directors this week.

It was reported today that during a two-month visit to Italy, Steven Zhang made it clear to four Inter directors that they will be offered new two-year deals to continue their work.

The four people in question were Chief Operating Officer Beppe Marotta, Sporting Director Piero Ausilio, his deputy Dario Baccin, and Head of Youth Football Roberto Samaden.

The quotes from Beppe Marotta make it clear that whilst no official announcement has been made, he will be signing the deal and continuing at the club until at least 2024.

“I am very optimistic about the future of Inter. I am happy to stay and extend the contract with Inter.”

Ausilio does the scouting and suggests the targets to Marotta. Then Marotta makes the decisions based on the available budget and he handles the financial part of the deals. Marotta isn't a sporting director. He never was. He sets the direction and he handles the financial part but he lets the sporting aspect to the sporting director. He did the same with Paratici at Sampdoria and Juve and he does the same at Inter with Ausilio.

Marotta has gone a great job since he took over. The decision to sell Icardi and replace him with Lukaku was a financial success for us, as Icardi's value has only declined since he left. The only bad purchase he's authorized has been Lazaro. He's even found some reasonable low-cost solutions, such as Darmian, Young, and Sanchez (in that he was free).

I hope he can facilitate a strong summer to finally clean up this club's financial mess. We're less than 12 months away from being free of Nainggolan, Mario, Vecino, Perisic*, and most of the dead weight. The financial situation could improve vastly if he gets this mercato right.

*Perisic is a little unfair to include with the above trash, but his wages are way too high given our current situation.
